The Coach Approach Ministries Podcast

This week Brian interviews Rick Richardson, Professor of Evangelism and Leadership at Wheaton College, Director of Wheaton College Billy Graham Center Research Institute, and Director of the Church Evangelism Initiative.    Rick is the author of You Found Me: New Research on How Unchurched Nones, Millennials, and Irreligious Are Surprisingly Open to Christian Faith   Rick sees how coaching is essential to the church to help her fulfill her potential.   Check out this statistic from Rick's work with the Church Evangelism Initiative: Without coaching, they were seeing 10% success. Adding coaching and changing nothing else, success jumped to 50%. Now to go higher, they are adding a heavier coaching element.

Quite often when a coaching relationship isn't working, you should revisit the agreements. Agreements are not a "set it and forget it" item.  Here are a few agreements to consider: What the client should expect from the coach What the coach should expect from the client What the client should expect from the client What the coach should expect from the coach Third party agreements should be given special consideration.

Evan says the first thing to ask is "What do you want the visitor to do on your site?" Most likely, you want the visitor to take an action. Make it obvious what option you want the visitor to take.

Chad and Brian discuss self-differentiated leadership championed by Edwin Friedman in his book A Failure of Nerve. The five aspects that Friedman says self-differentiates leaders are: A capacity to get outside the emotional climate of the day. A willingness to be exposed and vulnerable. Persistence in the face of resistance and downright rejection. Stamina in the face of sabotage along the way. Being “headstrong” and “ruthless”—at least in the eyes of others.
