Working with obese or overweight clients involves understanding how to work differently both logistically and emotionally. Join Allison as she revisits a blog post she wrote back in 2016 to talk about this ever-evolving conversation. With tips on how to re-think your office to thoughts about how to understand the weight of pain, this episode explores the many layers of working with clients who struggle with weight.   Original post: https://www.rebelmassage.com/single-post/2019/01/05/working-with-obese-clients-the-pain-of-weight-and-the-weight-of-pain Host:                   Contact Allison Denney: rebelmt@abmp.com             Allison’s website: www.rebelmassage.com                      Allison Denney is a certified massage therapist and certified YouTuber. And I am not your typical massage therapist. After 20 years of experience and thousands of clients, I have learned that massage therapy is SO MUCH more than a relaxing experience at a spa. I see soft tissue as more  than merely a physical element but as a deeply complex, neurologically driven part of who you are. I use this knowledge to work WITH you — not ON you — to create change that works. This is the basis of my approach. As a massage therapist, I have worked in almost every capacity. Massage clinics, physical therapy clinics, chiropractor offices, spas, private practice, as well as teaching . I have learned incredible techniques and strategies from each of my experiences. In my 20 years as a massage therapist, I have never stopped growing. I currently have a private practice based out of Long Beach, CA., where I also teach continuing education classes and occasionally work on my kids. Ep 220 - Ruth Werner: Life Is an Open Book Test: “The Rebel MT” with Allison Denney

Ruth Werner is a household name when it comes to pathology in the field of bodywork and massage. But this was not her original plan. The ability to understand her own strengths and weaknesses paved a path that led her to jotting down a couple of thoughts about pathologies. Fast forward years later and we are lucky enough to have Ruth’s book, A Massage Therapist’s Guide to Pathology, now in its 7th edition. Join Allison as she sits down with her “podsister,” Ruth Werner.   Host:                   Contact Allison Denney: rebelmt@abmp.com             Allison’s website: www.rebelmassage.com                      Allison Denney is a certified massage therapist and certified YouTuber. And I am not your typical massage therapist. After 20 years of experience and thousands of clients, I have learned that massage therapy is SO MUCH more than a relaxing experience at a spa. I see soft tissue as more than merely a physical element but a deeply complex, neurologically driven part of who you are. I use this knowledge to work WITH you—not ON you—to create change that works. This is the basis of my approach. As a massage therapist, I have worked in almost every capacity, including massage clinics, physical therapy clinics, chiropractor offices, spas, private practice, and teaching. I have learned incredible techniques and strategies from each of my experiences. In my 20 years as a massage therapist, I have never stopped growing. I currently have a private practice based out of Long Beach, California, where I also teach continuing education classes and occasionally work on my kids. If they’re good.   website: www.rebelmassage.com   FB: facebook.com/RebelMassage   IG: instagram.com/rebelmassagetherapist   YouTube: youtube.com/c/RebelMassage   email: rebelmassagetherapist@gmail.com

Ep 219 – Be the Pro and CEO of your Practice with Mindy Totten

In this episode of The ABMP Podcast, Kristin and Darren speak with Mindy Totten about how an injury changed her course, why she gravitated toward craniosacral therapy, how massage therapists can make the leap to a solo practice, and why she decided to become a mentor to the massage therapy community. After 18+ years as a successful craniosacral therapist, it became Mindy Totten’s mission to help other massage and bodywork therapists build profitable businesses so they could serve more people AND make a great living doing it. Through her private mentoring, group coaching programs, and as host of the Do It With Intention podcast, she’s here to show bodyworkers how to build practices they love—without burning out or selling out. Her favorite accolade she’s ever received is when one of her students called her “a humorous version of Yoda.” When she’s not helping big-hearted therapists create their dream practices, you can find her taking long road trip adventures, hanging out with her remarkable redbone coonhound, George, or bingeing episodes of Outlander.   Sponsors:   Anatomy Trains: www.anatomytrains.com    Universal Companies: https://www.universalcompanies.com/   Anatomy Trains is a global leader in online anatomy education and also provides in-classroom certification programs for structural integration in the US, Canada, Australia, Europe, Japan, and China, as well as fresh-tissue cadaver dissection labs and weekend courses.
