My Thoughts Monday #146- Be Confident, But Ready To Make Changes

“If you don’t believe in it yourself, why would anyone else believe in what you’re doing?” This My Thoughts Monday is brought to you by Vald Performance, the team behind the NordBord, ForceDecks, the GroinBar and HumanTrak. With all their products providing evidence-based solutions to performance professionals so they can get the right information, for the right decision, at the right time. Make sure to go check out all their great products at: www.valdperformance.com The return to sport programming for athletes has been a huge point of conversation through this whole “break” that we have had. Along with building the plan, handling sport coaches along with it has been at the front of everyones mind. This is why it’s vital for coaches to have confidence in, not just the program, but how they communicate what and why they’re doing what they are doing as well, is vital. We also need to be ready and confident in our plans to take care of the athletes that have set backs. What’s our back up plan? What’s our plan for kids that have set backs? How are we, as a performance staff as a whole, going to handle these issues? In this weeks My Thoughts Monday, I share our plans for that, and why this set up the way we do and what some of our “Plan B” ideas are.ENJOY THE CONTENT? “There are a lot of things that we can change that don’t require money or anything like that, it’s just a willingness to change your ideas to do that.”“It’s not necessarily the information we have, it’s how we project it to people.”“Just because it’s the best thing doesn’t mean it’s the right thing.”This episode of The Podcast is brought to you by Exxentric, the makers of the kBox and kPulley. Chris then shares with us how how role as a director has changed during this pandemic, and how he has tried to be creative to keep things as close to “normal” as possible. My Thoughts Monday #145- The What’s And Whys To Our Return To Sport Program

“We know intent is king, right, so if you are springing fast and jumping high, as explosively or far or whatever as possible, and you just cut the volume and work your way up with that, you’re going to get a heck of a lot more out of that you are if you’re moving 100 pounds, which is 50% of what you should be lifting.” This My Thoughts Monday is brought to you by Vald Performance, the team behind the NordBord, ForceDecks, the GroinBar and HumanTrak. With all their products providing evidence-based solutions to performance professionals so they can get the right information, for the right decision, at the right time. Make sure to go check out all their great products at: www.valdperformance.com As student athletes are starting to return to campus some coaches have already had the ability to start to work with their athletes, while some are starting in the near future. In this weeks My Thoughts Monday I discuss the plan that we have built for our athletes return to sport when they come back on campus, why we chose these things based on some of the conversations we have been lucky to have with coaches who are already “in the trenches.” This simple progression of basic progressive overload makes a lot of sense to me, but would love to get your input or feedback on the plan.ENJOY THE CONTENT? Podcast 244- An Instagram Live Q and A with Chris Ham

“Everyday these guys come to the weight room is an assessment to me.”“Once you get these guys to understand self awareness, it’s big. Understanding the decisions they make outside of the weight room, outside the baseball field are going to have a huge impact on what they try to do, especially when it comes to performance. Podcast 243- A Reality Check with Don Day

“Some people don’t know how to have the conversations because they can’t fathom what we go through.”“It starts with conversation. You can’t have common ground if you don’t have conversations.”This episode of The Podcast is brought to you by Exxentric, the makers of the kBox and kPulley. All others, or to learn more about the kBox, kPulley and flywheel training, please go to their website at: https://exxentric.com/.This weeks episode of The Podcast is a conversation I got to have with Don Day recently on the present social and political situations. This conversation was very eye opening for me to hear what is still going on throughout the country, and college athletics is not immure to it. We discuss Black Lives Matter, and Don sheds some light onto some of the misconceptions. We discuss college athletics and where there are still issues that are race related, and some specific issues within the system that limit the advancement of African Americans. Don gets into so very personal stories, real life situations, where he has experienced racism. This whole conversation, in my opinion, is one that coaches need to be having with their athletes, and colleagues to find out how we can all be better, together.
