After a quick run down of how she got to the point to make the decision to move to Denver she dives into how the “coaching identity” was really hard to get over. She then shares with us how this transition is going, things she misses form her staff at U of L, and what she’s really excited about at this new position. There are unique challenges to every position, and Candice and I get to talk about many of those, and how there are pro and cons to working with younger athletes that have improved how both of us teach. We get into how communication has changes, especially in this COVID world, how quickly kids get “glassy eyed” and they “zoom out” when you’re going over things, and how being quick, to the point, and having them repeat it has been a great change.Enjoy the content? Episode 507: My Thoughts Monday #166- Jay DeMayo- We Are Life Long Learners, Until You Question Us…
“If we’re not will to share one on one then we’re never gonna share as a bigger group.”This My Thoughts Monday is brought to you by Vald Performance. Vald’s constant drive to help coaches find better information to drive more educated directions is second to none. Check out this weeks Metric Minute and make sure to go check out all their great products at: www.valdperformance.com In this weeks My Thoughts Monday I share my thoughts on this recent uptick in Twitter wars over coaches questioning some traditional “methods” when it comes to football. These recent battles are over the implementation and utilization of mat drills, 300 yard shuttles, and 110’s. In each of these, if there is a practical reason behind the why then I’m all for it. Where I do see a problem is the lack of communicating the why’s to these and it just being, as was said on Twitter “give us our game back.” It’s impossible for us to grow and evolve if we do not discuss our reasoning, look at research, and have conversations about those two to help us ALL make better decisions and help push ourselves forward. All these internet fights are doing, in reality, is holding us, as a profession, back and keeping us from having a seat at the table. ENJOY THE CONTENT? Episode 506: Episode 265-Eric Potter- Making It To Complicated Leads To Failure
“We don’t have to guard the weight room the whole day, you should spend time working yourself.”“If we want a certain thing, we have to set ourselves up for success. So, if you want a certain guy to jump higher he needs to jump more. If you want a certain guy to shoot better he needs to shoot more. And trying to make it more complex than it actually needs to be is just setting everyone up for failure.”This episode of The Podcast is brought to you by Exxentric, the makers of the kBox and kPulley. After a quick run-down of how Eric got down to Norfolk we get into what financial literacy is to him, why it’s important, and how we both got into looking into this subject. This leads us into the discussion of being more time efficient and looking at doing better with the time we have and scheduling for what we really do, not just guarding the weight room. We finish off talking about how important it is to keep things simple and moving towards the specific goals of the moment both in training and in life.Enjoy the content?
