Pirates of Silicon Valley – Digital Panopticon
Before the Industrial Revolution, economists saw land and agriculture as the fundamental source of wealth. When feudalism gave way to mass production and the increased power of manufacturing, labor and capital became the chief measures of economic might. With the coming of the information age, however, power has shifted away from large factories and massive payrolls towards platforms for collecting, analyzing and leveraging data on human behavior. The prism in which we now interact captures our every move, thought, and increasingly anticipates our desires. Breaking free has never been more difficult.

The Dictator’s Handbook
Power is an ancient concept, with formalized attempts at understanding it going back to at least Machiavelli and almost certainly to Sun Tzu. In a more modern context, authors Mesquita and Smith in their 2011 book ‘The Dictator’s Handbook’ explore the factors that drive how politicians gain and retain power, with special emphasis on coalition building. Tonight we discuss how realistic this framework is, and what lessons can be learned on a local level and to the body politic in America as a whole.

The Rise and Fall of General Electric
Founded in 1892 by Thomas Edison with the backing of J.P. Morgan, General Electric has been a stalwart of American business for most of its history. Sprawling over a multitude of industrial divisions, including electric turbines, jet engines, locomotives and medical devices, the conglomerate outperformed its rivals in the 1980s and 90s by a wide margin, but in the 2000s, a series of bad deals and allegations of accounting fraud led to GE being de-listed from the Dow Jones Industrial Average in 2018 after having been its longest serving member since 1907. Tonight we discuss how this storied institution got to this point, and what it portends about the state of American industry as a whole.

The Way Life Should Be – The Globalists Demographic War on America
Ever since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1990 and Francis Fukuyama declaring the ‘End of History’ with the ascendancy of the ‘Washington Consensus’, America has led the charge of globalization as a means of expanding and solidifying its empire. In theory, this means the general ‘liberalization’ of political systems, favoring democracies over authoritarian regimes, and reductions in restrictions on trade, capital, and labor. In practice, this has meant violent overthrows of dissident regimes, wholesale liquidation of industry from first world countries to cheaper overseas locations to benefit oligarchic business, and the importation of cheap immigrant labor and voter bases hostile to native populations. Tonight John Q. Publius joins us to talk about his new book detailing this process in America, with special focus on Maine, where the globalist agenda has just started to take its hold after rampaging throughout much of the more populated areas of the country and the world.

Citizen Kane – After Dark
Hailed by many as the greatest American movie ever made, Orson Welles’ debut film is a technical and artistic triumph, showcasing his acting ability and creative vision. As a commentary on great wealth and media power as a vehicle to high society, but not to close relationships, ‘Citizen Kane’ set the standard and remains a timeless classic. After giving an update on our society’s current bizarre relationship with media spin and mob behavior, we delve into our takes in this After Dark episode on whether we personally found a connection with the themes of the film and the main character himself.

Weeks of Rage – The Riots of 2020
In E. Michael Jones’ seminal work ‘Slaughter of Cities’ on the decline of ethnic-American urban neighborhoods in the 1960s and 70s, he notes the coordinated attempt by the elites and social engineers to destabilize individual races and form deracinated, relatively homogeneous black urban ghettos and white suburbs. The legacy of this phenomenon has not abated, as once-great American cities such as Baltimore and Detroit as evidenced by their 19th century architecture have fallen into permanent decline as they are now centers for urban blight and consistent low-level violence. When the media, however, decides to amplify the statistically rare occasion of white on black violence as in the recent case of the police officer killing a black man in Minneapolis, the racial powderkeg that is urban America erupts as it has in arguably an unprecedented, coast-to-coast series of mob riots and looting in the summer of 2020.

Tibet – Into the Air
Nestled in the highest mountain region in the world, separated by treacherous passages, boundless desert and locked between the world’s two most populous nations, Tibet is home to an ancient people and a religion that transcends much of modernity. Maintaining this position has required a multitude of strategies over the centuries, including alliances ranging from the Mongolian Khanates to the CIA, as well as forging a short-lived empire of their own. Today we are joined by Dharma King, a scholar of Tibet and the Buddhist religion to help us better understand this storied people and tradition.

Hoaxed – Everything They Told Us Was a Lie
If people once held a sense that the newspapers, television and radio outlets of yesteryear possessed a touch of political bias, but made an honest attempt at focusing on reporting the facts, the campaign and election of Donald J. Trump in 2016 threw the modern day equivalent of that belief into almost indisputable doubt. The term ‘fake news’ has since become a household term, and internet journalist and provocateur Mike Cernovich’s recent film ‘Hoaxed’ chronicles how we got here in the run-up to the election, and the subsequent political aftermath of rampant propaganda masked as legitimate journalism and the censorship and overall attempts by the system to silence and shutdown grassroots dissent.

US Special Forces – Counter Insurgency
The popular conception of the special forces solider parachuting in behind enemy lines and single-handedly taking on entire divisions under extreme duress is one promoted by Hollywood and tacitly endorsed by the Pentagon. Given some of the more successful missions such as in Panama and the more infamous ones such as Desert One, this reputation is indeed valid, yet it paints an incomplete picture of SF’s much larger role in a general force multiplication strategy of indigenous forces where conventional US forces cannot be deployed. Tonight we are fortunate to be joined by two highly experienced special forces soldiers to dispel some of the commonly held misconceptions about their profession and give us a better understanding of the role of counter-insurgency operations from World War II though today.

Food – It’s What’s for Dinner
In the midst of all the Corona confusion, with restaurants closed and supermarkets crowded with mask-wearing cart-pushers, we thought it timely to do a brief around the campfire chat about what we can all agree on: most people don’t know how to cook. As with most things in life, however, things change, and just as our ancestors saw the need to celebrate life through a meal, with the chaos of the outside world, right now might be a time to rediscover this ancient art.
