Episode 179: Organizing Personal Finances (w/ Shanna Skidmore)
Shanna Skidmore joins me on the podcast to chat about her system for organizing personal finances and what business numbers you should be reviewing at the end of the year.We start the conversation, however, discussing her time away from her business from mid 2019-mid 2020. The short version of the story is that after her biggest launch ever in 2019, she walked away from her business with the intention of not returning. We talk about that season, her experience being away from her business and what she learned from it. This was one of my favorite conversations of 2022, largely because of the first half of our conversation. So if you have the time, I highly encourage you to listen to the entire episode because there’s just so much good stuff to be found in what Shanna shares around her experience closing up shop. But, if you are here for the financial stuff, I’ll put a timestamp in the episode description so you know where to jump. Shanna’s content is top-notch, I took a full page of notes just based the financial portion of our conversation, and Krista and I are planning on completing the activity she shares during our year-end review. As always, links and resources are in the show notes, including Shanna’s Year-End Review activity. Episode 178: How to Create Effective Email Sequences (w/ Abbi Perets)
Today’s guest is copywriter Abbi Perets of Successful Freelance Mom and we’re chatting about how to create effective email sequences. I was recently introduced to Abbi through a connection on LinkedIn who was raving about her content—and as I chatted with Abbi, I could see why. She was a lot of fun to chat with, I appreciated the practical tips she shared, and I also appreciated her love for different marketing tools. She actually shares a bit about how she sends dynamic content to email subscribers using liquid coding based on a survey she has people complete. Since she showed me this, I’ve implemented it in one of our email sequences. My plan is to record a video demonstrating how to do this and drop it in the show notes.Abbi shares a bit of her story with us, and there’s a lot we can learn from it. Especially if you’re just starting out, you won’t want to skip the beginning of the episode. Then we dive into email marketing and email sequences. As always, be sure to check out the show notes at daveyandkrista.com for the resources we mention during the episode and specific timestamps if you’re looking to jump around the episode. We link to a bunch of helpful email resources that Abbi has put together. And can I ask a favor? Episode 176: 3 Activities to Complete at Your Year End Review Meeting
Today Krista and I are sharing three activities that we will doing together during our year-end review and planning meeting. While these activities aren’t the only things we’ll be discussing, we thought it would be more helpful to give y’all an idea of what sorts of things we focus on during these meetings vs. how to plan the meeting (more on that in a minute). We discuss an activity that will help kick things off and set the tone for the meeting that analyzes both the revenue driving activities of the business and how the team feels about those activities. Then we jump into an overview of how we examine our finances. We don’t go into great detail because I’m releasing an episode in a few weeks with financial expert Shanna Skidmore who helps us explore this. And we end by discussing some of the marketing related efforts that we’re going to take another look at.We have a few goals during these sorts of meetings. One is efficiency. And by that, I mean we want to figure out how we can do more with less—which ultimately means that we’re figuring out what we can eliminate so as to make better use of our time and resources. It can be difficult cutting things out, but it’s always amazing to me the growth that a little pruning can bring about. Beyond that, we of course want to create some space to get on the same page and dream together a bit about what the next year could look like.Sometimes the middle of these conversations aren’t always easy—especially if you have a partner that you work alongside—they might have a totally different assessment of the year and what should be done the following year. God knows that has occasionally been the case with Krista and me… but these conversations are so necessary to have, and I’m always so grateful afterwards for having had them. There are so many ways to make your year-end review or planning meetings more effective. We don’t jump into actually how to plan these reviews, although we do have other episodes that cover such things. Regardless of what your end-of-year meeting looks like, we hope you find one or more of these activities helpful. As always, links and resources can be found in the show notes. Episode 175: The Two Step Formula for a Powerful Marketing Plan
Krista joins me on the podcast today to chat about what I think are the ONLY TWO STEPS of effective marketing. Yes, I believe effective marketing only requires two steps, and if you focus on doing these two things well you’ll see more engagement, more leads, and more bookings or sales. We chat about why content marketing is so effective, common mistakes we see people make, and what businesses can do to get the most out of their content marketing efforts. We then review why lead generation is pivotal to the health of any business. If you haven’t listened to our episode on lead generation (episode 173), you’ll want to check that one out as well.As always, be sure to check out the show notes at daveyandkrista.com for the resources we mention during the episode.Episode sponsor: This podcast episode was made with Zencastr.
