How this Kickstarter campaign raised $2M and created a world-first product, with Emma Rose Cohen, Founder of Final

Joining me on the show today is Emma Rose Cohen, the founder of Final - the company who advocates for sucking responsibly. In 2018 Emma set out to create the world’s first collapsable straw and make an impact on our oceans and the planet. She launched her idea on Kickstarter with the goal to raise around $12,000 and instead it went absolutely bonkers, raising 2 million dollars in total with around 100,000 straw orders. You might think it was a good enough reason to celebrate, but there were plenty of hurdles that came with it’s success. Today we’re chatting about what makes a good kickstarter and what happened after the campaign went viral. Why it’s important to protect your intellectual property against the manufacturers who are out there specifically to steal your ideas and flood the market with cheap knock offs, and how to set your own campaign up for success.LINKS WE MENTION:FinalFinal's InstagramThe Deepak Chopra Free 21 Day Meditation Experience Waking up with Sam HarrisBook: The Culture CodeBook: The Way of the Superior ManDoone's InstagramThe Ads MBA  Hosted on Acast. Talking the power of female leadership & how we need to evolve, with Susan Griffin Black, Founder of EO Products

Susan is the founder of a company called EO, which stands for essential oils. They produce body, skin and hair products made from active botanicals that are scented with essential oils. They also have a sister company called Everyone, which is the more accessible line that’s affordable and for everyone. Susan’s been in business for a very long time, 25 years to be precise. She launched EO as a 4 piece collection to Bloomingdales from her garage in 1995, all while being a a single mum and hustling every single day to pay the bills and keep the lights on, fast forward to today the business still remains independently owned by her alongside her co-founder Brad and pulls in around 50million dollars in revenue each year. If you’ve been listening to my podcasts you’ll already be familiar with the kinds of topics I touch on; we talk about the origin story, the marketing, the challenges, the money… and all that good stuff is totally jam packed packed into this episode, but what I loved most about my conversation with Susan is the key pearls of wisdom dotted throughout. Like the importance of pursuing the journey and the actual day to day of building a business rather than the pot of money at the end, and the why it’s critical as we move forward in the world to have women in complete control of their lives and being at the forefront of leadership. This was such an amazing conversation and I’m so excited for every ear that finds this episode. And please do share it with anyone you think will benefit from this story.  LINKS WE MENTION:EO Products WebsiteEO Products InstagramSusan's InstagramBook: Zen Mind, Beginners Mind Hosted on Acast.
