Best of ‘22 - 6 Questions with Kayla Castańeda, Founder of Agua Bonita (Part 2)

Today on the show we’re learning from Kayla, the founder of Agua Bonita.Agua Bonita is a Latina-owned beverage company making the first better-for-you aguas frescas on the market. A modern take on a traditional Mexican fruit drink, their aguas frescas come in ready-to-drink 12oz cans, made with real fruit, low sugar, and fun flavors (like mango habanero). And this story is a wild one. I actually came across a post of Kayla’s on LinkedIn sharing a pretty crappy story for any small business owner to go through. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of takeaways in this episode because she’s just so insightful. We talk through those initial 6 months of building the brand. Agua Bonita launched conceptually in July 2020, but those first months were really stealth mode. You conceptualize your brand, identify your values, and what makes you different from the whole market. A lot of thinking through that for the first 6 months. What do we want to do that’s different, how can we do this sustainably, and how do we communicate that? And we can confidently say this initial stage was a success, with 10,000 units flying out the door in the first month. Kayla talks us through how exactly this came about, this complete wildfire response. Firstly, the people were ready for Agua Bonita. This product was just completely absent from the market, and people wanted it. On top of that, Agua Bonita was ready for the people: extensive research into where they can find their consumers, and then showing up in their life throughout the day. Kayla also shared some pretty key know-how around a concept called free-fill when it comes to giveaways in retail. Heard of it? Check out the full chat for the low-down.You should stick around to the end of the episode, where Kayla shares the number one piece of advice she's ever received, and some of her own advice. When it comes to the first, everything takes way longer than you expect it to. Even when you allot a lot of extra time, add even more time onto that timeline. In business, time really does equal money. So you'll need money to make sure those things work out in your favor. When it comes to Kayla's own piece of advice, she's a strong advocate for leaning into your community. You will find so many other founders and resources, so many people that really want to help you. When you’re building a brand, that’s all your really trying to do as a brand. Lean into the community, there are people that want to help. If you love this episode and get something out of it please do share it on your Instagram stories with us @femalestartupclub. Best of ‘22 - 6 Questions with Rosie Jane Johnston, Founder of By Rosie Jane (Part 2)

Today we’re learning from Rosie Jane Johnston, the founder of By Rosie Jane.By Rosie Jane was founded in 2010 by celebrity makeup artist Rosie Jane Johnston, an Aussie who has made her home in LA. Each fragrance, formulated by Rosie herself, is free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates and phosphates and housed in recycled and recyclable packaging. Her perfumes and body care products are refreshingly simple and ideal for daily wear using the highest quality fragrance oils. We cover her journey to building this brand into a 7 figure company stocked in the likes of Sephora and Thirteen Lune, and the campaign that’s driving her customer acquisition right now.The thing that really struck me in this episode is Rosie's relentless pursuit in business and getting what she wants, to get By Rosie Jane to where it is today. She really shows us how a no now doesn’t mean a no forever, and it’s all about being open for when that time comes for the no to turn into a yes. That’s where your courage and conviction are. If you are not doing something you truly believe in, you truly love, you’re not going to stay the course. Whatever that is for you, has to be your driving force. There’s something within your entrepreneurial spirit. That’s just in you. It takes 10 years to reach overnight success. And in that time you need to have that persistence and true conviction in what you’re doing. When we look at legacy brands, there are a few key things key they are getting really right. They have these incredible “whys”. They have a lot of struggles in the beginning. They’ve had to change and move with the time and have great failures and still come back, which is so important to have in the entrepreneurial world. If you love something in this episode please do consider sharing it on Instagram stories and tagging us or leaving us a review to help other ears find us. I’m so grateful for each and every one of you who does this.Let’s get straight into it, this is Rosie Jane for Female Startup ClubLINKS WE MENTION:Rosie's InstagramBy Rosie Jane's InstagramBy Rosie Jane WebsiteJoin thousands of small business owners who are reading our newsletter every Monday at: www.femalestartupclub.comJoin our tool and private community for small business owners, Majic [formerly known as Hype Club]Female Startup Club's InstagramDoone's InstagramDoone's TikTokSay hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.com Hosted on Acast. Best of ‘22 - 6 Questions with Miki Agrawal, Founder of WILD, Thinx & Tushy (Part 2)

Today on the show we have Miki Agrawal, the serial founder behind some of the coolest companies you’ll definitely know; the first being WILD a gluten-free pizza restaurant concept she launched 18 years ago, Thinx, the period underwear company that totally disrupted how we think about our period care and Tushy, the modern day bidet. This episode was so damn cool, and I know you’re going to get so much out of this. Miki is the queen of disruptive marketing, we talk through how she takes a product and applies her framework to create intrigue and mystery which then creates buzz and more eyeballs. We also talk about what she did to raise millions of dollars and her advice for founders. And if you hang around to the end, we were lucky enough to meet her beautiful dad! Go check out the YouTube video on our channel.Miki is an absolute marketing genius, and her magic lies in pulling that intrigue and taboo element out of the products she is selling. Using that intrigue in a way that supports the clickbait or the interest of the conversation. You can really take anything and make it intriguing based on what you attach it to. It all comes back to creativity. Everyone is creative, we just don't necessarily spend the time taking the noise out of our brains to have time to think. People are so busy reacting to the world around them that they don't give themselves the space to be creative. Creativity requires spaciousness, time, and presence.Tuning into your creativity goes hand-in-hand with the changes in the narrative around things not being presented so perfect and crisp anymore. We're leaning more into sincerity and authenticity in 2022. This links back to the big rise in UGC over traditional commercials, something important to keep in mind for marketing moving into the future. Authentic recommendations and user-generated content perform so much better, commercials have started to feel phony. Do things DIY, and even if it's not perfect, that's the whole point. We are built for imperfection, that's the beauty of being human.I’m so grateful that you’re tuning in today and I hope you love this episode as much as I did recording it.Let’s get straight into it, this is Miki for Female Startup ClubLINKS WE MENTION:Miki's InstagramTushy's WebsiteMiki's WebsiteThe Artist's Way BookJoin thousands of small business owners who are reading our newsletter every Monday at: www.femalestartupclub.comJoin our tool and private community for small business owners, Majic [formerly known as Hype Club]Female Startup Club's InstagramDoone's InstagramDoone's TikTokSay hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.com Hosted on Acast. Best of ‘22 - 6 Questions with Zara Saleem, Founder of Delhicious (Part 2)

Today we’re learning from Zara Saleem, the founder of Delhicious. A 100% natural Ayurvedic-inspired skincare brand that started in her kitchen while on mat leave. And this has many important insights packed in here; for Zara it was a veryyyy slow start but at some point, the TikTok gods kicked in and changed the game. We also talk about how hard the challenges of building a business are, especially when we see the highlights splashed across social media. I loved this episode and felt like we can all relate to the ups and downs of building a business and what it truly entails. When it comes to the financials, Zara was able to bootstrap Delhicious with a slow and steady approach. Starting with just a couple of hundred pounds, she was able to just wing it and see how far she could take this. Skincare's low barrier to entry is a huge help when it comes to this, it's totally doable to start a skincare business with a low initial investment. Start scrappy, go slow, prove out the concept, and just start there. If you're going to spend too much too early, you're going to feel that. More so emotionally you're going to feel that loss. So as much as you can, save and do things yourself before letting go. Relieve some of that pressure off your shoulders. This was such an inspirational story that shows there is absolutely nothing truly stopping you from starting a business today.Let’s get into this episode, this is Zara for Female Startup Club.LINK WE MENTION:Delhicious' InstagramZara's LinkedInGirls That Invest PodcastGirls That Invest BookJoin thousands of small business owners who are reading our newsletter every Monday at: www.femalestartupclub.comJoin our tool and private community for small business owners, Majic [formerly known as Hype Club]Female Startup Club's InstagramDoone's InstagramDoone's TikTokSay hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.com Hosted on Acast.
