Successful Mining and Exploration in Turkey and Beyond with Kerim Sener

In this episode, we chat with Kerim Sener, Managing Director at Ariana Resources, an AIM-listed gold exploration and development company focused on epithermal gold-silver and porphyry copper-gold deposits in Turkey. Kerim is an experienced exploration geologist within the junior mining space. He has worked in Australia, Europe, Africa, and North America and gives us an update on Ariana’ Kiziltepe, Tavsan and Salinbas projects and what Turkey is like as a mining jurisdiction. KEY TAKEAWAYS Ariana Resources has an operational gold and silver mine in the Kiziltepe sector, in Turkey. Several satellite projects are being explored around the Kiziltepe mine and mill. The Tavsan gold and silver project is in development and is due to be up and running in Q3. More exploration is running alongside this. In Cyprus, Ariana Resources is developing a series of copper-gold projects with Venus Minerals. The Turkish government has been supportive of mining. In 20 years, the country has gone from one active mine to 17. Ariana Resources is currently the only AIM-listed company exploring for gold in Turkey. They have enhanced datasets which means they have the edge when it comes to exploring Turkey, which is underexplored. Their team includes a full geological team, including geochemists, geophysicists, a GIS manager, resource specialists and remote sensing specialisation. Ariana Resources have been involved in developing important pieces of successful technology. This has kept their gold discovery per ounce cost down to the lowest in the world. The company has successfully raised a lot of cash. Shareholders have already received high premiums. BEST MOMENTS ‘Kiziltepe was a huge milestone for the company because we made the successful transition that few make in our space from pure exploration, into production. ´ ‘Turkey is the largest gold producer in Europe currently. And it's one of the largest gold producers in the world.’ ‘We very much pride ourselves on our use of technology, not just using bits of technology and kit to our advantage, but actually being an integral part of the development.’ EPISODE RESOURCES LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/ariana-resources-plc?originalSubdomain=uk Twitter: https://twitter.com/ArianaResources?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSnkV2Rvye7fLRRskBuHQzQ/videos VALUABLE RESOURCES mailto:rob@mining-international.org https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson-3a26a68/ http://www.mining-international.org https://twitter.com/MiningConsult https://www.facebook.com/MiningInternational.org https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69dGPS29lmakv-D7LWJg_Q?guided_help_flow=3 ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is the Founder and Director of Mining International Ltd, a leading global recruitment and headhunting consultancy based in the UK specialising in all areas of mining across the globe from first-world to third-world countries from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Gold Continuing to Ebb and Flow in Today’s Ever-Changing Economic Climate with Krishan Gopaul

In this episode, we chat with Krishan again, a Senior Analyst at the World Gold Council and discuss some of the Gold Demand Trends in Q2 and Q3 of this year. He and Rob also discuss the Gold Market outlook for the remainder of the year and the start of 2023. KEY TAKEAWAYS The war in Ukraine led to gold market prices coming off slightly during Q2 of 2022. Chinese lockdowns have also had an impact during Q2. Q3 saw substantial outflows of around 227 tonnes from ETFs. For Q3 the coin and bar sector was robust, and jewellery and central bank purchasing was also up. If you register at goldhub.com you get access to all the datasets the World Gold Council uses. Jewellery underwent a firm recovery. Krishan explains how and the role China had in this. When inflation is high, initially private individuals tend to move money into gold which typically holds its value better. How gold performs now depends on whether the primary focus is on inflation or on interest rates. Why is explained in the episode. Crypto has been quite turbulent, and some of those investors are turning to gold. Central banks have bought a record amount of gold, and many are planning to continue to do so. Why is explained, in the podcast. Upcoming festivals and celebrations usually lead to an uptick in demand for gold jewellery. That should still happen in Q4, but inflation may make this spike smaller.     BEST MOMENTS ‘Quarter two was slightly weaker than what we saw in quarter one. ´ ‘Jewellery demand overall in q3 was back up to those pre-COVID levels.’ ‘It could be that some people are looking to gold, given the turbulence that we've seen in the crypto space,’   EPISODE RESOURCES Website: www.Goldhub.com and www.gold.org Twitter: https://twitter.com/KrishanGopaul     VALUABLE RESOURCES mailto:rob@mining-international.org https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson-3a26a68/ http://www.mining-international.org https://twitter.com/MiningConsult https://www.facebook.com/MiningInternational.org https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69dGPS29lmakv-D7LWJg_Q?guided_help_flow=3     ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is the Founder and Director of Mining International Ltd, a leading global recruitment and headhunting consultancy based in the UK specialising in all areas of mining across the globe from first-world to third-world countries from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Moving From Digital Strategy to Operations With Pleasure Mnisi

In this episode, we chat with Pleasure Mnisi, a mining manager at Exxaro Resources who talks to us about his passion which is around the subject of “Moving from Digital Strategy to Operations”Pleasure has an industrial Engineering background and has been in the mining industry for 15 years and working for Anglo-American for nearly a decade and was a nominated finalist for South Africa’s rising star in Mining & Minerals back in 2020.He is also going to be speaking at “Resourcing Tomorrow,” which is Europe's largest and most in-depth mining conference dedicated to global sustainability goals and is coming to London this November. This Mines and Money event will be held at the Business Design Centre from the 29th of November to the 1st of December. Find out how to attend this fantastic event to learn from and network with industry leaders below. Use Rob´s code to get a discounted ticket. KEY TAKEAWAYS When it comes to transformational change and technology most mines face remarkably similar challenges. The best way to decide where to focus your efforts is to understand what problems you are trying to solve. Winning ideas come out of that. The wrong culture eats strategy for breakfast. Basing your decisions on hard facts helps to cut through resistance that can hold you back. Getting accurate feedback quickly is essential in mining. If the change does not work, you need to know fast, otherwise, you burn a lot of money. Don't be scared to invest money in trying things out. If you don 't , you stand still. Deploying technology properly pays huge dividends. In the episode, Pleasure shares an example that brought a mine into production, one year early. What the market wants, and the political situation can also play a role in deciding what technology should be used and how it will be deployed. The entire operational chain including contractors and transport needs to be readied to handle the step-up in production. Technology enhances safety, which helps to convince the unions despite possible job losses. In South Africa, there have been relatively few overall job losses. Instead, the resulting growth has meant most people have been retrained or taken to the next level. BEST MOMENTS‘A lot of operations do not know where to start. ´‘Mining is not as agile, as other industries,’‘It's one thing, talking strategy. It's another thing being on the coalface.’‘Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Keep it simple.’ EPISODE RESOURCESWebsite: https://www.exxaro.com/LinkedIn: https://za.linkedin.com/in/pleasure-mnisi-b009911bTwitter: https://twitter.com/pleasuremnisiEmail: pleasure.mnisi@exxaro.com “Resourcing Tomorrow,” which is Europe's largest and most in-depth mining conference dedicated to global sustainability goals, is coming to London this November. Developing Ghana’s First Lithium Mine with Neil Herbert

In this episode, we chat with Neil Herbert, Chairman of Atlantic Lithium, a junior miner that is looking to develop Ghana’s first Lithium producing mine. They are targeting first production in 2024. Neil is an experienced advisor and investor in leading growth companies from start-up, through to IPO and development. During his career, he has been involved in a number of mining companies in Africa.  He is going to talk us through Atlantic Lithium and how they are on course to become Ghana’s first lithium mine. KEY TAKEAWAYS Ewoyaa is an exceptional lithium project. It is 100% spodumene, which the processors prefer. Getting the mine on stream is going to be simple because all the key components are already in place. There is a strong workforce, great infrastructure, and good support from stakeholders. Ghana has a very long mining tradition. The government understands the industry. Ghana is actively trying to diversify into mining other minerals. The compliance bar is high but managed fairly so it is not hard to navigate that requirement. The project has already grown by a third and has the potential to grow again. The price of Lithium is soaring so Ewoyaa’s low operating costs mean profits will be high. All of the current data points to there being a deficit of lithium over the next decade or so. Atlantic Lithium is already well financed and has the groundwork laid for further financing should it be needed. BEST MOMENTS ‘Ewoyaa is exceptional in that it's an all-spodumene project… it's the most desirable in terms of the recoveries, it's what the converters prefer. ´ ‘the resource just gets bigger and bigger. We increased it from 20 million tonnes to 30 million tonnes.’ ‘Any new mines that can be bought forward on a short-term timeline are particularly welcome. Ewoyaa fits in nicely into that, with first production in 2024.’   EPISODE RESOURCES Twitter: https://twitter.com/AtlanticLithium LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/6401998/admin/ Volt Rush by Henry Sanderson - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Volt-Rush-Winners-Losers-Green/dp/0861543750 Neil is also going to be speaking at the upcoming Mines and Money event in London at the end of November 2022 so is sure to reach out to him there in person if you have any further questions. High-Grade Minimal Risk Silver Assets in Peru And Canada With David Stein

In this episode, we chat with David Stein, President & CEO of Kuya Silver, who is a listed silver-focused mining company Kuya's flagship asset is the high-grade Bethania Silver Mine in Peru.David has a geology, mine engineering and finance background and his passion is to build long-term investments in both people and resource assets like Kuya. He tells us more about the company, its projects, and the challenges of mining investment, in the current climate. He is also going to be speaking at the upcoming Mines and Money event in London at the end of November so be sure to reach out to him there in person if you have any further questions or want more information. KEY TAKEAWAYS When the silver bull market comes there will be a lot of investors funnelling into very few companies. Kuya Silver owns 100% of the Bethania Silver Mine, which is a high-grade silver polymetallic resource, in Peru. Over the past two years through acquisition and land purchase they have added 5,300 hectares to the resource. The mine can be put into operation very quickly once the market strengthens. They have recently made new discoveries at Bethania and have further promising targets to explore. Over the past two years, they have focused on acquisitions to strengthen their portfolio. Including buying the Silver Kings mine in Canada. Once gold moves, silver will too. It always has. The current macroeconomic situation should lead to the price of gold rising. Silver shortages seem to be getting tighter and tighter, which will be good for the price. Despite political changes in Peru, the operating environment has changed very little. Peru is a large and diverse country, so the challenges are different in each area. Kuya is lucky enough to be in an area that is easy to operate in. Kuya has high-grade, minimal-risk quality silver assets that are growing. Yet, right now, the valuation is still next to nothing. BEST MOMENTS‘I did pick up silver companies and I was the first analyst back in 2004, or five around there to pick up First Majestic and Fortuna. ´‘The challenge in the industry right now, including with Kuya is to, is to recruit these sorts of longer-term buy and hold investors.’‘I think the macro is good. Mining Uranium And Lithium in an Environmentally Friendly Way in The USA With Greg Cochran

In this episode, we chat with Greg Cochran, MD of Aurora Energy Metals. It is an Australian-owned company focused on the exploration and development of its Aurora Energy Metals Project in Oregon, USA. The project hosts a defined uranium resource and is prospective for lithium. Greg is a highly regarded international mining executive with over 30 years of experience in general management and in senior commercial and technical roles. With a background in mine engineering, he has operated at the MD/CEO level for the last 15 years, in Africa, Australia and Asia, in a broad spectrum of minerals including uranium, potash and other industrial minerals and base metals. He tells us more about Aurora Energy Metals and discusses, in more depth, the uranium market which is his expertise.Greg is also going to be speaking at the upcoming Mines and Money event in London at the end of November 2022. So, be sure to reach out to him there in person if you have any further questions. Enjoy the episode. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is a uranium revival on the way. Energy security is fundamental and the benefits of nuclear are being recognised. Their Oregon project is one of the largest uranium projects in the US. Mining uranium at scale is far more environmentally sustainable than the old approach of hundreds of small operations. Having both lithium and uranium to mine provides Aurora with the ability to pivot between the two. The mineral Acts that have been passed by Biden are supportive of minerals, which is good news for Aurora Energy Metals. There is the potential for state funding. The site can tap into a renewable energy source, which is extremely cheap as well as clean. Potentially a pipeline or conveyor can be used to get the ore to Nevada for processing. Transportation solutions that have an exceptionally low impact on the environment. BEST MOMENTS‘produce for 10 to 50 years 1.5 to 2 million pounds of uranium. ´‘Countries are recognising nuclear energy’s benefits as we recognise renewables benefits.’‘Number 1 it´s (renewable energy) cost-effective. Number 2 it's clean, it's zero emissions.’ EPISODE RESOURCESWebsite: https://auroraenergymetals.com/FOLLOW US ON TWITTER: https://twitter.com/Aurora_1AEFOLLOW US ON LINKEDIN: https://www.linkedin.com/company/aurora-energy-metals “Resourcing Tomorrow” is Europe's largest and most in-depth mining conference dedicated to global sustainability goals and is coming to London this November. Reducing Energy Wastage Benefits Morale, Saves Money, and Achieves Climate Targets Fast with Andrew Cooper

In this episode, we chat with Andrew Cooper, who is an Energy Specialist with New Gold, a Canadian-focused producing gold mining company with a portfolio of two core producing assets located in Canada. It also has a stake in the Artemis Gold Blackwater development project.   Andrew is an enthusiastic and energetic Strategic Energy Management Specialist and is an International Energy Manager of the Year award winner. In 2020, he was inducted as a Fellow Member with the Association of Energy Engineers, in recognition of his significant contribution to energy management. In this episode, he outlines why energy conservation needs to be a key component of a mining company’s low-carbon objectives going into 2023 and beyond. KEY TAKEAWAYS New Gold has two operational mines. Their New Afton mine became the 1st in North America to implement the ISO 50,001 energy management system Energy conservation is all about reducing waste, which saves a lot of money. Most businesses, including mines, waste 8 to 10% of the energy they pay for. In terms of energy conservation, there is still a lot of low-hanging fruit. As technology and working practices evolve, new low-hanging fruit (easy wins) emerge. Minimising energy waste by between 30 and 50% takes a sizeable chunk out of your greenhouse gas reduction target. Reducing energy waste has to be a corporation-wide target. When it comes to energy conservation, your employees will be the ones that have the best ideas. Make it super easy for people to make suggestions. Incentivise them to do it and reward them. BEST MOMENTS ‘Within our industry, we have a lot of waste. In fact, energy waste at a mining operation can account for up to 8 to 10% of your energy expense. ´ ‘Energy conservation is at the end of the day all about minimising waste and maximising efficiency.’ ‘Suggestions came from the whole cross-section of the mine, from maintenance, finance, procurement, the mining and milling - all groups.’ EPISODE RESOURCES Website: https://www.newgold.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/new-gold/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/NewGoldInc VALUABLE RESOURCES mailto:rob@mining-international.org https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson-3a26a68/ http://www.mining-international.org https://twitter.com/MiningConsult https://www.facebook.com/MiningInternational.org https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69dGPS29lmakv-D7LWJg_Q?guided_help_flow=3 ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is the Founder and Director of Mining International Ltd, a leading global recruitment and headhunting consultancy based in the UK specialising in all areas of mining across the globe from first-world to third-world countries from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Logging All Types of ESG Data In Live Time For Any Mining Site with Trevor Jones

In this episode, we chat with Trevor Jones is the CEO of Lynx Global Intelligence, a software provider, that is helping mining explorers and producers capture ESG data at the asset level.   Trevor holds an MA in International Security from the University of Denver and sits on the Colorado Advisory Committee of the US Global Leadership Coalition and the Board of Directors for the Global Chamber Denver. His focus is on making complex global systems consumable through technology within the mining industry and talks to us about the company and how his technology will help mining companies with the ESG.   Trevor is also going to be speaking at the upcoming Mines and Money event in London at the end of November so be sure to reach out to him there in person if you have any further questions or require any further information.   KEY TAKEAWAYS   Lynx Global Intelligence provides miners with tools on their phones and tablets that enable them to log ESG data, in live time, on-site. It is a bit different from what others in the market offer. Their software is used globally, and it tried and tested across numerous cultures and environments. It can be used to log all aspects of ESG, including wildlife, monitoring human rights and many other metrics. The reports and data are designed to be flexible, so they can be shared with all kinds of outside organisations and regulations. Quantifiable ESG metrics play a role in securing finances, and insurance and working more efficiently. ESG compliance and innovation are playing a crucial role in reducing friction and resistance to mining projects.       BEST MOMENTS ‘Lynx helps miners aggregate ESG data at the site level. ´ ‘It even works without an internet connection… in some pretty austere places.’ ‘if you talk to miners there is a genuine notion that we're going to try to figure this out as a community, not greenwash and be transparent.’   EPISODE RESOURCES Website: https://www.lynxglobalintelligence.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/lynx-global-intelligence/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/lynxglobalintel “Resourcing Tomorrow” is Europe's largest and most in-depth mining conference dedicated to global sustainability goals and is coming to London this November. See the offer in the Episode Resources section to get your ticket at a discounted rate.KEY TAKEAWAYS As a geologist, it is important not to have tunnel vision. Pigeonholing deposits prevent you from discovering other ores or minerals that may be present. Tesoro Resources is in control of over 600sq km of concessions, in Chile. Since 2017, they have drilled over 105,000 metres. Using a unique approach, they have uncovered a million-ounce-plus resource quickly. Being able to drill diamond cores early has played a significant role in their success. The few drill holes that have not resulted in finds taught them a huge amount. So far, they have identified 10 potential deposits. In Chile, both power and water can be an issue. But neither is a problem in the area Tesoro Resources operates in. There are plenty of very experienced miners available for work in Chile. BEST MOMENTS‘Myself and a couple of other guys have been really integral to delineation discovery design. ´‘They are able to directly sample those rocks and assess them for potential, for gold mineralization.’‘There's been some recent initiatives by the Chilean government to really reinvigorate foreign investment into Chile.’EPISODE RESOURCESWebsite: https://tesorogold.com.au/LinkedIn: https://iq.linkedin.com/company/tesoro-goldTwitter: https://twitter.com/TesoroGoldLtd“Resourcing Tomorrow” is Europe's largest and most in-depth mining conference dedicated to global sustainability goals and is coming to London this November. Why Exploration Done Differently Works With Chad Peters

In the episode, we chat with Chad Peters, Presidential, DEO and Director of Ridgeline Minerals (TSX listed - TSX.V:RDG and OTCQB:RDGMF) who are an exploration company focused on exploring high-grade Carlin-Type gold deposits in Nevada.Chad has a background in geology and Co-founded Ridgeline Minerals in 2018 with a focus on exploring Tier-1, Carlin-Type gold deposits in Nevada. He talks about their partnership at the Swift project and their Selena projectKEY TAKEAWAYS Ridgeline Minerals was co-founded with a drilling company, which has significantly reduced its exploration costs. This also de-risks the early part of the exploration process, which trips most companies up. When it comes to exploration, they are always pushing the envelope and trying innovative ideas, which is producing results across their five projects. They have recently closed a significant financing deal. In the fall, they will be drilling their flagship Selena project. Selena hosts a zoned Ag-Au-Pb-Zn Carbonate Replacement Deposit (CRD). There is also potentially open-pittable Ag-Au at Chinchilla, Juniper, Revival and Broken Egg and maybe a deeper high-grade potential at the CRD Zone. At Swift, they have had intercepts at up to 5 metres of 400/420 grams silver point, 6 grams of gold and about 9% lead/zinc. Nevada is still an easy place to mine. There is little pushback from the community and good infrastructure. BEST MOMENTS‘Not only did they like that we were pushing new ideas, tying some different concepts, but we also could drill at a significantly cheaper cost. ´‘I’m the largest shareholder in the company... the whole focus is on de-risking the exploration process.’‘We don't have to go find 4/5 million ounces of gold to make an economic mine, half a million is enough.’EPISODE RESOURCESWebsite: https://www.ridgelineminerals.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/RidgelineNVYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiFM-fxadZHDJoLpoRXpFqQ/Email: info@ridgelineminerals.comVALUABLE RESOURCESmailto:rob@mining-international.orghttps://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson-3a26a68/http://www.mining-international.orghttps://twitter.com/MiningConsulthttps://www.facebook.com/MiningInternational.orghttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69dGPS29lmakv-D7LWJg_Q?guided_help_flow=3ABOUT THE HOSTRob Tyson is the Founder and Director of Mining International Ltd, a leading global recruitment and headhunting consultancy based in the UK specialising in all areas of mining across the globe from first-world to third-world countries from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia.
