Effect on EmotionsIt's given me hope, it's given me dreams, it's given me possibilities. Never in a million years would I have told you that I was living in adventure narrative with my family and ever thought that was possible just a few years ago. Now because of prayer and mindfulness it's given me the opportunity to dream beyond anything that I ever could have thought of.
Thoughts on BreathingBreathing is something I have never really focused on.

Advice for Newbie
I would encourage you just to be still. It is so hard in this life, in this day and age to cut off the noise. I would encourage you to actually go somewhere, where you don't have cellphone service, where you can hear the breeze, you can hear the wind in the trees and just take a moment. It's gonna take you a while to actually be quiet in your own mind. Take those moments, realize that the world is much bigger than you and just listen.

Effect on EmotionsIt's helped me to understand, to be more present and look out for triggers. As I was talking about this women in my life, she is still somewhat a part of my life and where we go from here we don't know yet, let life take it's course and just let it be. It Helps me where I get triggered and how do I respond to things. I have just become more mindful of my emotions and things are going to happen in your life but how you react to them is up to you.
Thoughts on BreathingYou know breathing is something I need to examine a little bit more, I don't do it all that well yet. The only thing that I do with breathing and it just calms me and makes me push further like on my runs, when I think I am exhausted and can't go any further. I think I am pretty much there I just need to change the application, I just breathe in and breathe out and out of nowhere I am another 50 yards down the road.

Advice for NewbieDo some google research and then find someone who is an expert at it. They have taken the first step by listening to your podcast but find your own women that I talked about or find someone that practices it I guarantee you. One of the things I love the most about being an entrepreneur in our day and age, you can find that person Bruce is in Canada, I'm in Pennsylvania, I talked to someone from South Africa, my assistant is out of Dallas, we are connected now. You are going to find your tribe and they have done it with this podcast, just find someone to guide the way.

084 Fear and Mindfulness Weekends with Bruce Langford
Fear is something we can be mindful about. We all have it at times, but do we all identify the feeling? Do we know how to deal with fear and move through it? Or do we let the fear move through us? Fear can stem fromexperiences that happen early on in our lives. Fear can come on suddenly or gradually. Fear can disappear quickly or can gradually disperse. In this episode I discuss fears, how they can grip us and how being mindful can help diminish the fears that live within us.
Quotes:FEAR - False Evidence Appearing Real
Some people say fear has two meanings: 1. Forget Everything And Run & 2. Face Everything And Rise. THE CHOICE IS YOURS.
Fear defeats more people than any other one thing in the world. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times. - Bruce Lee
Courage is not living without fear, courage is being scared to death and doing the right thing anyway. - Chae Richardson
Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears. - Les Brown
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. - Nelson Mandela

Effect on EmotionsBy being mindful I make sure I don't put myself in situations where I am going to be uncomfortable.
Thoughts on BreathingLearning to systematically under breathe is crucial for your health because when you over breathe you lower your carbon dioxide levels too much and your brain starts making malfunctions.
Advice for Newbie
My advice would be to forgive yourself if you don't do it perfectly and to try and try again.

Effect on EmotionsIt has actually helped me take a step back and look at the bigger picture and say do I actually need to feel this way right now or am I over reacting or under reacting cause it can go both ways. That's what mindfulness has done for me on an emotional state.
Thoughts on BreathingYou gotta breathe. I used to find myself especially talking to people that were in a higher position than me in retail. I used to find myself holding my breath a lot and you know that would not help me answer their questions at all because I would have to let my breath go and then I would start to think about the question they just asked me. It just always made it look like I wasn't there and I didn't know what I was talking about. Breathing during situations and being mindful of that and knowing that you get nervous during those times actually helps you through it especially breathing. I really think that it's common for people to hold their breath back in situations like that.

Advice for NewbieI would say they need to get past the stereotype and the "oh I don't wanna listen to a Guru" stereotype. I think a lot of people are not looking at the benefits but they are looking more at the person who is teaching it to them. The person is just a vessel to bring that information to you. Don't focus on that person necessarily, focus on what you can learn from that. That will take you a lot further than worrying about who is teaching it to you all the time and getting your head wrapped around that.

081 The Brain and Mindfulness Weekends With Bruce Langford and Alex Hofeldt
The brain is a fascinating topic. It is in control of this body of ours, at least it appears to be. We can learn so much about the brain, but it ultimately is why we practice mindfulness, to calm it down. Today I'm happy to chat with Alex Hofeldt about the brain and he suggests its a little likethe battery on our cell phone. Don't leave it plugged in all the time, you need to give that battery a chance to rest between charges. You'll hear him share his interesting insight into the brain and its complex functions. Thanks for joining us here on Mindfulness Mode.

Effect on EmotionsI'm a really emotional guy. I wear my heart on my sleeve and mindfulness helps me to be aware of that. And aware that other people aren't like that and sometimes I can make them uncomfortable by spilling my emotions all over the place. I have to be mindful of that and know where and when to reign that in.
Thoughts on BreathingA lot of times I can't sleep at night, and laying there and taking deep breaths in and out, because my mind is just crazy, it's going a million miles an hour and if I'm just focused on breathing in and breathing out it really helps to slow me down. It's one of the only times that I think I'm being particularly mindful by doing a physical activity.

Advice for Newbie
Choose your beer wisely. Pick something that you really enjoy. Think about what you like; do you like sweet, do you like bitter? And then consider the alcohol content. Sit down with a beer, whether it's your favourite or something new that you want to try and just focus on the balance of the beer. Let's forget about the balance of ourselves for a second. I think that's the ultimate goal, but let's focus on the balance of the beer. And I think that you'll find yourself really in the moment with that beer.

Effect on EmotionsThat 16 to 22 age range was so helpful being around animals. I think if you are inclined to be way up and way down (emotionally), which I am really not, I tend to be pretty level. But if you are, and everybody goes through it, it's such a great way to be humble, to care for something that doesn't really ask for anything in return. I would say that is the biggest help for me is being around animals and moments when you really need to stay centered and grounded.
Thoughts on BreathingI work on it all the time. I think that our biggest enemy is something that throws our equilibrium off and breathing is the first thing that will get thrown off. If we're not breathing, everything else goes.

078 Talent and Mindfulness Weekends With Bruce Langford and Don Hutcheson
Talent and Mindfulness are definitely related. If you live a mindful life you are more likely to be in touch with your talents. Some people don't discover their true talents until they are in their teens or twenties. Others don't discover their talents until they are well intotheir careers and then feel it's too late to switch and make money doing what they love.
Some people don't discover their talent until retirement and still others never feel they have discovered their talent, even to the very end of their lives.
Today I'm joined by my friend, Don Hutcheson, who has built seven companies and worked with hundreds of people. He hosts a podcast called, 'Discover Your Talent, Do What You Love'. As you'll discover, he has tremendous knowledge and insight into 'Talent and Mindfulness'.

Advice for Newbie
Never get down on yourself. People are so used to being moved by everything that goes on around them and they don't know to sit still for even thirty seconds, let alone a minute. Do not condemn yourself. It's a practice and it's a habit. Think about anybody who ever wanted to learn how to run. It's something you just continue to practice over and over and the more you do it, the more familiar it becomes.
