Web designer Emma Troy on boundaries, pricing and VIP client experiences

Joining us on the podcast today is brand stylist, web designer, artist and visual storyteller Emma Troy! From her farm in south-east Queensland, Emma helps creative businesses build brands, websites and visuals that illustrate their story and illuminate their value. This year, I worked with Emma on a brand refresh and a new website for my business, which you’ll find at emilyosmond.com. I was so impressed with Emma’s organisation, processes, communication and of course ridiculous design skills! In this episode, Emma and I discuss her journey from design generalist to VIP packages and just recently the launch of her online template shop! We also chat about mindset challenges when it comes to pricing, creating meaningful client experiences even if it means they can’t be fully automated, and why boundaries are best for her AND her clients. If you are embarrassed by your current website and know it’s time to step it up a level, Emma has a special treat for you: $100 off her beautiful design templates for the website platform Showit. Infact, a little insider’s tip: my website is based on the ‘Penelope’ template and then customised by Emma! To check out Emma’s template shop and snap up $100 off your very own customisable website template designed specifically for creatives, simply go to www.emmatroy.com.au/emily and enter “VIPEMILY” at checkout! 3 big mistakes made with ideal customer avatars and how to fix them

If you’re a business owner, I’m sure you have heard about the need for a ‘ideal customer avatar’. If I asked you to describe your ideal customer avatar - what would you say?So often, when my students start working with me they have followed some very common but flawed advice to create their ideal customer avatar. And because of this, a few things happen: They are not attracting the type of customers that they really want to work with Even if their ideal customer found them online, they would keep on scrolling  - i.e. they are invisible to their ideal customers They don't know how to create content and write captions that connect with their ideal customers and feel stuck with what to share OR it feels as though the content they are sharing is being flung into an empty void with no one engaging with it (apart from your two best friends!). So today, I’m sharing with you the three most common mistakes I see business owners making when creating their ideal customer avatar - and how to fix these! Mel Schilling from Married at First Sight talks TV, trolls and tapping into courage

Today I have someone joining us on the podcast from one of mine and Koden’s all time favourite TV shows! Melanie Schilling is one of the experts on Channel Nine’s Married At First Sight. Along with being one of Australia’s highest profile therapists, she is also a highly recognised and respected thought-leader in inspiring confidence, courage and competence. As a qualified specialist in human behavioural performance and purpose, Mel’s relentless ambition is to discover and celebrate the exceptional individual inside all of us. In this episode, we speak about Mel’s journey of tapping into her courage and acting 'as if' to create pathways to the opportunities she wanted (including pitched herself into MAFS when someone else was already in the role) - and how we too can do the same. We also speak about dealing with media backlash, online trolls and developing resilience; plus how to build a personal brand and a consistent message when the work you do is so diverse. Mel is running a free online masterclass on 9th December about ‘The 3 things you need to create an epic, positive plot-twist in the last two months of 2020’ (and they don’t involve alcohol or binge-tv watching!). How to make saying “no” easier (and take the emotion out of it)

As business owners, it can sometimes feel as though we spend our day making decisions! I know sometimes I wish I could take a decision holiday! When it gets to Friday night and ordering takeaway, I often ask Koden to just choose what he wants and get enough for me - I’ve made enough decisions for one week! Making decisions is part of being a business owner and a leader - and with it comes the skill of discernment: “the ability to judge well”. And with making decisions also comes the need to say “no”, which I know can feel hard. We don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings, or feel as though we are letting someone down, rejecting them, being rude or ungrateful or even missing an opportunity that we will regret later. In this episode we look at how to make saying “no” easier - and how to take the emotion out of it. When is the best time to resign and go all in on your business?

If you are currently working full time or part time for someone else, but you really want to resign and go all in on your business, chances are you might be wondering when the right time is to take the leap. From my own experience quitting my job to go full time in my business, and speaking with many of my students who (very excitingly!) have done the same, there are two main ways to approach this. Which of these approaches you take are likely to come down to two things: your personality and your circumstances. I explore these two approaches in this episode - along with the things I considered before I quit my job. If you are ready to take your business to the next level, to connect with your audience, attract more of your ideal customers, and make great money, without meaning you need to sacrifice your lifestyle in order to grow, my free online class is PERFECT for you.
