Put Your Ass Where Your Heart Wants to Be with Steven Pressfield – Ep. 179

Send us a textSteven Pressfield is a screenwriter and NYT best-selling author. Having worked for 27 years before having his first novel published, Steven understands a lot about creating from a place of action instead of creating from a place of expectation. Steven believes that we have no control over external circumstances; we only have control over our self-discipline, our self-motivation, and how smart we can work. In this episode, Dr. Jade and Steven discuss his creative process, the importance of being committed to the work we want to share with the world, and the importance of ‘putting our ass where our heart wants to be’ meaning committing to certain goals so we can get the outcome of this effort. With a very straightforward approach, Steven also explains that once we dedicate ourselves to our purpose, everything unfolds in front of us – even if it takes a long time. On Being Male with Kelly Gardner – Ep. 178

Send us a textIn this episode, Dr. Jade welcomes Kelly Gardner to discuss what it is like to be a man in the society we are currently living in. Kelly shares his opinion on important topics that compose a man’s life, such as fatherhood, work, and friendship. Kelly is an advocate for men nowadays to be involved in communities. Being part of a circle of friends that have the willingness to hold each other accountable is extremely valuable for all of us. Kelly also believes that men are often deeply influenced by their core values, and those core values are deeply influenced by the stories they lived. It’s also important to remember that every man is unique and part of this uniqueness comes from those same stories, the traumas, the fears, the lessons learned, and the failures. Being a next level man involves all of these factors and more: understanding that there are no good men or bad men, just men trying their hardest to find purpose. Tune in! On Seed Stories and Communication with Lunden Souza – Ep. 177

Send us a textIn this episode, Dr. Jade welcomes Lunden Souza to talk about communication skills, seed stories, and how choosing the right language to use with ourselves and with others is fundamental. The notion of ‘seed stories’ means that we, living as adults, somehow reproduce through the way we act, think, and behave, the old stories, traumas, and lessons we had as kids. It influences our personality and reality. Lunden, who is a Life Coach and a Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) Practitioner, also shares some good practices we can use to communicate our feelings, wants, and needs in a way that doesn’t harm the other person. According to Lunden, it’s really important to learn how to request something you need while also setting boundaries to avoid certain situations you don’t need. Our communication skills are also impacted by our ‘seed stories’. Tune in to learn more! Check out the Next Level Human sponsors! On Body Recompositioning – Ep. 176

Send us a textIn this episode, Dr. Jade explains some good practices if you are trying to lose fat while also building (or maintaining) muscle mass, also called ‘body recomposition’. First, it’s important to know that individuals who are just starting in the gym will accomplish body recomposition easier than those who are intermediate or advanced lifters. Secondly, when it comes to nutrition, people who are trying to lose fat while building muscle should be focusing on a few key things: protein intake – extremely important to give the muscle a reason to maintain its shape; veggies – they will give you the right amount of nutrients that the body requires while in this process; water intake – fundamental to keep the body hydrated and also of great value to help with fat loss. When it comes to workouts, Dr. Jade explains that beginners should be doing something along the lines of ‘full body workouts’ while more advanced lifters might separate their workouts into body parts, for example, Monday: chest & back / Tuesday: legs & calves / Wednesday: shoulders & arms, and so on… Tune in if you are also on this journey and don’t forget to check out the sponsors for the episode! On the Forward Party – Ep. 175

Send us a textBase level humans are usually guided by the thought that they are the center of the universe (much like how children think). Culture level humans always need to be part of a group and are guided by the thought that the opposite group is often wrong. Next level humans understand that the common good is what matters and are constantly working for a healthy debate and a healthy integration. In this episode, Dr. Jade makes the distinction between the concept of Base, Culture, and Next Level Humans. This concept can be applied to many areas of life, including politics, and it’s important to think about how our choices – and the people we vote for – are influenced by these three states. We shouldn't be avoiding talking about politics, and in this episode you will learn why and how we should be celebrating the existence of more voices in our society today. Tune in! On Hate and Hurting – Ep. 174

Send us a textIn this episode, Dr. Jade talks about the concept of using the things that once hurt us – and the hate derived from them – to be better people. It’s important to remember that we all have a choice: we can be destroyed and worn out by those hurtful experiences or we can use them as fuel to become heroes. This concept also creates a connection between staying in the “base level” stage and achieving the “next level” stage. In addition, Dr. Jade explains that we can all use hurt in life the same way as we use compliments: being aware of it and recognizing it in ourselves. Another significant course of action is learning from the pain, creating something good from it, and helping other individuals who are going through the same thing. This is the only way to deal with hurt/hate: quitting the victim mentality and taking sole responsibility for our wounds. On a New Diet Strategy – Ep. 173

Send us a textIn this episode, Dr. Jade talks about the connection between metabolism and stress, weight loss activities, and also a new approach to dieting, which main idea is inspired by a study. In this study, a group of men was given only 300 calories to be consumed daily (in two different forms). They also had to walk several miles during the day (slow walks). The weight loss results after 4 days were profound. On metabolism and stress, Dr. Jade explains that the metabolism’s main responsibility is to keep you alive and for that reason, it can adapt and adjust as your daily habits change. That’s why what we do with our bodies daily matters: what we eat and how we move, for example, are two of the most important factors. The metabolism also can adapt to stress, acting more like a thermostat than a calculator. Tune in! Check out the Next Level Human sponsors! On Financial Instability and Digital Currencies with Brandon Belk – Ep. 172

Send us a textIn this episode of Next Level Human Podcast, Dr. Jade has a very interesting conversation with Brandon Belk. Brandon gives us a thorough explanation of financial systems (and their flaws), current levels of inflation in the U.S., digital currencies, and how to prepare our money for the future. Education and learning about topics like finances are also fundamental to being a next level human. Brandon explains the current scenario of the modern economy, highlighting the differences between a productivity-based economy versus a debt-based economy – which is the type of economy we would want to avoid. According to Brandon, the “solution” of printing more money while facing price raises is not effective in the long term. They also touch base on technology and the role that digital currencies will play to facilitate – and even overcome – all sorts of monetary difficulties in the future. The Three Imperatives of a Next Level Human – Ep. 170

Send us a textToday, Dr. Jade speaks about the concept of the three imperatives of a next level human. As we all know from the show’s intro, loving, teaching, and learning are the foundation to living a life with purpose and the key actions in order to feel more fulfilled. Different from what is known as ‘base level humans’ and ‘culture level humans’, a next level human finds these three ideas to be the most important aspects of life. Learning is potentially the only thing in the world we need to keep doing as time passes on. When we stop learning, we stop growing and the lessons learned can be a huge asset to facing what life throws at us. Teaching is fundamental to pass to the next generation – or to other people – these lessons. On the other hand, loving (life, our family, our friends, ourselves) is what creates deep connections between humans and is what keeps us all moving forward. Tune in to learn more!
