THINNING OF THE VEIL

Sister Reyna Aburto, speaking to temple presidents and matrons on Oct. 17, 2019, testified of the miracles and thinning of the veil experiences that brought her family back together eternally. She relates that in the temple she found healing for herself and her family. The Lord allowed her and her mother to have a glimpse of their husband/father on the other side of the veil, answering fervent prayers on how to make their family whole after a very complicated family life. Every Sunday, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints gather to partake of the sacred emblems of the Sacrament. In that holy ordinance we covenant that we are willing to take upon ourselves of the name of the Savior. What does this mean? How do we keep this weekly covenant if we do not yet fully understand what it means. The Savior is referred to by many names. In this episode we will study some of the "Gathering" names of the Jesus Christ. As we start to understand the meaning of each name, we can greater understand the powers associated with this sacred covenant. As President Dallin H. Oaks teaches, the sacrament leads us to the temple as we serve in our roles as Gatherers emulating the patterns of Jesus Christ. The blessings and powers that follow those who willingly act as the Savior would in gathering scattered Israel, can scarcely comprehend the blessings that can be claimed through that sanctifying service. "The temple lies at the center of strengthening our faith and spiritual fortitude because the Savior and His doctrine are the very heart of the temple. Everything taught in the temple, through instruction and through the Spirit, increases our understanding of Jesus Christ," said President Russell M. Nelson. Oftentimes when we attend the temple we are thinking about everything except the Savior and yet each temple is a sacred, holy, literal house of God. We can know more about the Savior there than anywhere else. How can we learn more about Him, more about His love, and receive more revelation from Him in these holy edifices? Elder Allen Haynie teaches some ways that we can improve our worship, and have our eyes more opened to the reality that we can figuratively, symbolically, and literally, find Jesus Christ in the temple. During a very difficult time in Lorenzo Snow's life, the Savior gave him very detailed instructions through an unexpected, miraculous thinning of the veil experience. We can learn quite a lot about how to use some of the tools that President Snow utilized, in our own seeking to thin the veil. As we study this sacred interaction, we will be taught line upon line and precept upon precept as we approach the veil. God is no respecter of persons and truly all are invited to part the veil between heaven and earth. Boyd K. Packer in this General Conference talk, not only testifies of the importance of the gathering of Israel, but also teaches many very short, succinct principles related to the holy work done in temples. One of the most comforting doctrines that he teaches is, "Veils can become thin, even parted. We are not left to do this work alone. They who have preceded us in this work and our forebears there, on occasion, are very close to us." We are not alone in the performance of our sacred work. Those on the other side of the veil are aware and the promise is that from time to time, the veil can thin and part in degrees that we may know more of those who we are serving on the other side of the veil and we may know in more detail who we are to help save. What do three separate dreams from three different people have in common? The answer...miracles that surround the Gathering of Israel. "Within the Church there is an established pattern for receiving revelation and instructions", says Elder Marvin J. Ashton. The doctrine of parting the veil is no different. There are established patterns in the scriptures that teach not only how one can part the veil, but also that we should be seeking to understand this doctrine more fully.  President Nelson has promised that we can learn how to part the veil in the temple. Truman Madsen is a true scholar of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He has frequently taught on the subject of temples. This talk, given at a BYUI devotional was given on October 26, 2004. Brother Truman covers many aspects of temple worship and how to improve our own individual tutoring in the house of the Lord. Some of the things he covers are the relationship between our own mortal bodies and temples.
