THINNING OF THE VEIL

Through out the generations of time, beginning with Adam and Eve, the Lord has always extended promised blessings to those children on the earth who make and keep sacred covenants with Him. Our scriptures are replete with promises of land, posterity, and other cherished gifts.  While some of these blessings are well known, there are many blessings that are clearly not understood within the Abrahamic Covenant. What are some of these lesser known promised blessings? How do we as His children in the last days attain to these incomprehensible blessings?  It is left to us to offer these sacred opportunities of being blessed through the Abrahamic covenant to all of our ancient fathers and mothers. Thus fulfilling prophecy in real time, in the turning of the hearts of all people to Jesus Christ. Originally given at BYU Education Week on August 4, 2024, Brother Satterfield covers some aspects of the expansive doctrine of the Spirit World. He teaches several principles that relate to the Spirit World and our continuing journey following mortality. In his instructions, he is careful to use citations from the scriptures and prophets that verify what he is teaching as true doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. There is much to learn about the Spirit World and what happens after we die, and Brother Satterfield adds to our learning about this sacred subject. "BillionGraves is the world's largest resource for searchable GPS cemetery data". From anywhere in the world, people can locate a cemetery, take a picture, and upload that information into world wide data base. When seeking to find ancestors, it is a helpful tool, as sometimes cemetery headstones are the only recorded evidences that someone lived. However, the work must be done, cemeteries must be visited, in order for these long lost relatives to be found. Colette, goes over this very valuable app, that she uses every time she goes on vacation. It has led to many miracles for her as she seeks to reunite families around the world. This episode teaches how to use the app effectively and efficiently so that you can hit the ground running when finding an out of the way, obscure cemetery. President Joseph F. Smith said,  "I believe we move and have our being in the presence of heavenly messengers and of heavenly beings... I claim that we live in their presence, they see us, they are solicitous for our welfare, they love us now more than ever. For now they see the dangers that beset us; they can comprehend better than ever before, the weaknesses that are liable to mislead us into dark and forbidden paths. They see the temptations and evils that beset us in life and the proneness of mortal beings to yield to temptation and wrong doing; hence their solicitude for us and their love for us and their desire for our well being must be greater than that which we feel for ourselves.” When we participate in the Gathering of Israel sometimes we are only focused on the blessings and opportunities that we are offering to our loved ones on the other side of the veil. However, there is also help coming from the other side of the veil on our behalf, to help us navigate this mortal existence. Nathan Sizemore had a Thinning of the Veil experience in a celestial room where a long since passed friend, urged him to pray and help his brother on this side of the veil who is facing addiction, and other extreme challenges. His testimony reminds us that we cannot be saved without those on the other side of the veil, and they also cannot be saved without our sacrificial efforts to bring them to Christ through covenantal relationship. The help we receive from those on the other side of the veil is yet more evidence that we have a loving Heavenly Father who has a mighty plan to help all of His children on either side of the veil. President Brigham Young taught that the Spirit World is on this earth, around us. Many individuals through the generations have seen into the spirit world, most notably, President Joseph F. Smith, who helped further our understanding of the work that those on the other side of the veil are involved in. Every day members can also get glimpses from time to time about the what is to follow our mortal experience.  Michael Solesbee was blessed to see a glimpse into the sacred beyond. He was taught things about the gathering of Israel and given a forewarning into what is near future held for him and his wife. Eternal Life according to God's definition is to live as He lives. One of the main attributes about God's life is that He lives in a Family Unit. He, along with our Heavenly Mother, live in the Patriarchal order within the New and Everlasting Covenant of Marriage. Within this eternal union, Father and Mother continue the family unit for eternity, offering their own offspring the chance to become as They are. Bruce R. McConkie, testifies of this beautiful doctrine and teaches that for us to become as They are, we must enter in to the same covenants that we might also receive eternal life with Them in the mansions above. A helpful function within the Together App has provided a way to connect records available in different countries to the tree in a remarkable simple, fast, easy way. Anyone can help with expanding the global tree. Colette instructs how to navigate this newer function on a desk top computer in this episode. The Lord's work truly expands beyond boundaries and time and He has inspired these newer technologies to help Him in His work. In one of the great revelatory experiences of Moses, he was taught an essential truth and confirming identity of God's sons and daughters. "For behold, this is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." (Moses 1:39) This profound statement of truth should provide pause in contemplating one's own mortality, future ordinations, and the interconnectedness of the work of the Gathering of Israel. What exactly is immortality and eternal life? How does eternal life progress to the plurality of eternal lives? Everything in the temple points us to the glory and work of our Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ. As we come to know Them through saving Their other sons and daughters, we gain an advantage in the Resurrection, grown in Their power and glory, and most importantly become like Them in every sense of the word. "And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations." (Isaiah 61:4). Colette flew across the globe to Krakow, Poland, based on a revelatory dream. She knew the Lord had sent her there to reunite families who had been forgotten. She did not know what amazing miracles and manifestations that would follow this thinning of the veil experience, but she trusted in the Lord. The prophecy in Isaiah was literally being fulfilled in a some small way as she began the seemingly impossible task of repairing "old waste cities", using her family history skills, following the promptings of the Spirit and having faith in those assurances. Every Sabbath day countless members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day partake in a sacred ordinance. In the sacrament promises are made and blessings are extended. One of the promises that we weekly agree to is that we are willing to take upon us the name of Jesus Christ. To keep a covenant you have to understand it in its fullness. In this talk given by then Elder Dallin H. Oaks, in April of 1985, he masterfully teaches about this most important eternal doctrine. This promise does not just stop at our meetinghouse sacrament tables, but extends through the temple, into eternity. When we keep this covenant the blessings are incomprehensible and salvific.
