Michael and Christine Taylor had five children and were living Ossett, West Yorkshire in 1974. Michael had been unable to hold regular work as a butcher due to his chronic back pain from a previous severe injury and suffered mild bouts of depression as a result. Trying to help, a family friend suggested that the couple join a Christian fellowship group.
