S9EP03: The Other Side of Fear

How do you coach a client who says, "Life's great. I'm sorry that I don't have anything to be coached on, today..."? I love those moments. You see, for most people, coaching is remedial. Tell me your problem. Let me help you solve it. Repeat. For me, coaching is not remedial but generative. "You don't have a problem. That's great! Let's have a chat and see what occurs..." Today, I coach two fascinating women who are members of my program, Transition Excellence. What they both discover is that there is a powerful desire on the other side of their dreams, if they are willing to step into the fear... Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. S9EP01: The Power of Coaching More Than 1 Person at a Time

You know what I love the most about coaching around insight? It's that I have no idea walking into a session, just what is going to occur. In this conversation, Lauren wants my guidance on using intuition in coaching. And Anthony wants to let go of the unrelenting guilt—common to so many high performers—that he isn't yet where he wants to be. How on earth will I bring these two conversations together? There's only one answer to that question. It's to be totally present and in the moment. And to discover what happens along the way. It turns out that Anthony has his biggest insights listening to Lauren. And Lauren has her biggest insights listening to Anthony. And that is actually the magic of coaching more than one person at a time. Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. S8EP09: The Prosperous Coach 2.0

I wrote The Prosperous Coach, with my friend Steve Chandler, almost 8 years ago—and it has stood the test of time. It has been in the top 20 books about coaching on Amazon ever since it was published. It’s sold over 75,000 copies and it continues to sell 1,000 copies a month. In fact, just last month, we had our highest number of sales ever. Now, we wrote that book 8 years ago and much has changed in the world in that time. We wrote The Prosperous Coach to be a timeless book but that doesn't mean that we can't add new ideas and distinctions. In this short episode, I share some of my very latest thinking—in what I call Prosperous Coach 2.0. Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. S8EP08: How to Take a Scientific Approach to Becoming World-Class

I’m a scientist by training. I have a joint degree in Biology and Economics. And that background in biology meant that I spent hours and hours of the early part of my life studying, researching and experimenting in a laboratory. The Latin root of the word “laboratory” literally means to work. The word “experiment” comes from the Latin, meaning to try and to risk. The word “research” comes from Latin, meaning “to wander hither and thither.” So, what we call science literally means hard work, taking risks and not really knowing where you’re going! Today, I'll teach you 5 steps to being world-class... Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. S8:EP07: I Can Help You See the Invisible…

I’m an expert in high-level, complex coaching skills. And I’m an expert in coaching high-level leaders. When you watch me coach, you see me soaring on invisible gusts of wind. I’m an expert in creating something from nothing. A book that's sold 75,000 copies. A program that can create a million dollars worth of value in a year. An article that’s read by 20,000 people. A video that’s watched by 100,000 people. A community of high-level leaders.   But what you don’t see, when you observe my successes, is that I’ve spent over 10 years writing every day. What you don’t see is that I’ve spent 15 years creating – and much of it was never read, never watched, or never purchased. What you don’t see is that I’ve spent over 30 years studying and practicing leadership and coaching skills.   Once you’re successful, you get to soar on invisible currents. People talk about you. You build a word-of-mouth business.   Today, I am going to teach you how to soar... Love. Rich   PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. S8:EP06: Stop Trying to Solve Your Clients' Problems...

Around 1,800 years ago, the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius noted: "What stands in the way becomes the way." Whatever problem you are facing right now has the seeds of it’s solution within it. To be a great coach do NOT try to solve your clients’ problems. Instead help them to live into bigger challenges... Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. S8:EP05: The Worst Night of My Life. Ever.

This episode is about the worst night of my life. Ever. And it happened just the other day. Before bed, I took a medication, and for about half an hour everything was fine, as I tucked in the kids and read them a bedtime story. Then something began to change... I didn't feel good and I lay down next to Monique. I didn't want to worry her but after a few more minutes, something began to feel seriously wrong. My vision was confused and then my arms and legs started to twitch and I couldn't stop them. I could no longer speak clearly. And then my face started making involuntary movements and twitching, too. I was seriously scared. I asked Monique to call 911. And after that it got very blurry. Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership.
