S8:EP04: 3 Counterintuitive Rules to Being a Great Leader

My first leadership role was thrust upon me at 10 years old; when I was made School Captain of my primary school. I had no idea what leadership even meant. And I have been making mistakes as a leader, ever since! What I’ve discovered—and I am going to teach you today—is that there are 3 key, counterintuitive rules to being a great leader: 1. The Reverse Golden Rule 2. The Diamond Rule 3. The Snowflake Rule Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. Seek an elite community And I am going to share my insights from watching my wife, Monique DeBose create exponential success in her life as a performer. S8:EP02: I’ve spent my life playing Robin, looking for Batman

I was a fearful child. I’ve been a fearful man. And I’ve spent much of my life covering it up by doing all I can to look confident on the outside, whilst feeling deeply insecure on the inside. I’m afraid of not being liked, of running out of money, of dying before I see my kids grow up, of telling Monique what I really, really want, of aiming too high, of failing, of looking bad, of getting NOs… But I have learned that FEAR IS A MASK FOR DESIRE. And when a client asks me to help them get rid of a fear, I’m far more interested to find out what they really, really want. Underneath fear is desire. It’s what their fear is holding them back from. Today's episode is a reminder to hide nothing, to hold nothing back, to serve not please and to speak your truth—no matter what. Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. S8:EP01: Where’s your high pressure community?

Leadership is lonely. Often very lonely. It’s why I created 4PC. Selfishly. For me. So, I didn’t have to feel quite so alone. So, I could be surrounded by fascinating people. So, I could have people in my world who inspire me. 4PC is a high-pressure environment. We’re surrounded by people who are where we want to be in at least one area of our life. We are each forced to compete higher than our skill level. In today's episode, I am going to take you through 6 powerful tools that I recently taught to the coaches and leaders in my high-pressure community. Love. Rich P.S. S7:EP04: Provocative Questions Series: "What are you afraid of?"

The job of an extraordinary coach is to provoke their clients. The word "provoke" or "provocative" often has a negative connotation. It means "to annoy" and "to irritate." But, if you trace the word back to its Latin derivation, to provoke means "to draw forth." And that's the job of an extraordinary coach. To draw forth their clients. To draw out their genius. In the third episode in this series, I’ll share two more of my favorite questions. And these two relate to fear. Love. Rich   PS. After you've listened to this episode, get in touch. S7:EP03: Provocative Questions Series: "What do you want?"

Extraordinary coaches don’t answer the questions their clients come with — they help them live into more powerful questions. In the second episode in this series, I’ll share my favorite pair of very simple questions. Love. Rich   PS. After you've listened to this episode, get in touch. S7:EP02: Provocative Questions Series: "What are you tolerating?"

Most coaches think their job is to answer the questions that their clients come to them with. But, an extraordinary coach knows that’s not their job. The job of an extraordinary coach is to challenge the questions their clients ask. The job of an extraordinary coach is to help their clients live into better questions. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ve got a new series of provocative questions to challenge your thinking (and your client’s!). Love. Rich PS. After you've listened to this episode, get in touch. S7:EP01: Provocative Questions for High Performers

A client of mine runs a multi-million-dollar business. She’s respected by everyone in her field, yet she once said to me, “I could do this with my eyes closed. I want something more.” And then she went on, “I’m not lonely, but I’m very alone. There’s no one else I dare share this with but you.” One challenge of being a high performer is that you can be surrounded by people whose only mission is to say “yes” to you, who want to make you feel good, or say what they think you need to hear. As a coach, one of the gifts you can give extraordinary high performers is to create the safety for them to really speak their truth. In return, to have the kind of coach who is willing to hide nothing and hold nothing back, is a very unique experience for extraordinarily high performers. The team at WBECS invited me to give a presentation about coaching high performers. Well, I don't 'teach' and I don't do 'presentations', I told them. But I do coach. We're in. They said. So that's what I did. I coached. And I drew out some powerful distinctions from an extraordinary high-performing woman. Here we are... Love. Rich PS.
