From Battling Addiction to CEO - Diana Hu's Warning to Parents

This is something that’s hard for me to talk about.Anyone who’s followed me for a while knows that I am one of the most transparent creators in my content. But I battled with addiction for a good part of my young life.Fortunately, I was able to overcome it, but my best friend wasn’t so lucky. 15 years ago he passed away from an overdose. So when Diana approached me about doing this podcast together, although it’s very different from my typical episodes, I was eager to jump all over it.Because I think the message is as vital as it gets.Diana has been a speaker and a counselor, educating students and families on the dangers of addiction. She recently left her job in the U.S. and moved back to Asia to start her own business. To help spread this message amongst Asian families. Here’s what Diana told me that most people don’t understand...In Asian culture, talking about addiction is like admitting you’ve brought shame to your entire bloodline. It’s easier to pretend it doesn’t exist. But Diana’s on a mission to change that narrative. In our episode, we get into:* Why addiction is actually a family disease (not just an individual problem)* The hidden shame that keeps families suffering in silence* How Diana turned her pain into a speaking business* Why “tough love” is actually killing people* The ONE question that saved her lifeBut what really resonated with me the most… Diana told her own story about how she battled addiction for YEARS.Not because help wasn’t available. But because their family was too afraid to ask for it.Sound familiar?Look, I get it. This isn’t my typical “get on video and make bank” content. But sometimes we need to discuss the things that truly matter.Because I know a lot of you watching this are parents. And we want to protect our children. If you know someone who needs to hear this message, please share this episode with them.It might be the thing that finally gives them permission to ask for help.Best, Danny ✌️Thanks for watching Free Business School! Everyone Says I’m “Killing It” But Why Do I Still Feel Like Shit?

Last month I dropped an uncut solo podcast. But I never expected what happened next. The outpouring of gratitude, support, and love from the people who listened blew me away. And I understand why. It’s because it was uncut. It was transparent. It was emotional. It was more human than 99.99% of the BS on our LinkedIn feeds in 2025.So I’m giving you another one.Just more of my unfiltered thoughts about what’s going right and what’s going wrong in building my business and what I’m doing to stay ahead of the curve. Here’s what we hit on in this episode:* Why being “the LinkedIn video guy” was holding me back (and how I’m evolving beyond that label)* The $500/month investment that’s making my content 100x more fun to create* How my 6-year-old taught me I’m too hard on myself, and what my mentor said to shift my perspective* Why I’m choosing life over revenue (but still making more money than last year)* The uncomfortable truth about niching down vs. expanding your servicesYou asked for the realness! Your boy came through. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit coachdannyd.substack.com
