Discover Yourself Through Movement with Paula Chambers

Text us a comment or question! There are many ways of defining fitness. My Webster’s New World College Dictionary defines fitness as, “the condition of being fit; suitability, appropriateness, healthiness, etc.” Which might just be the worst definition in the history of definitions – I’m no scholar, but I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to use the word you’re defining in the actual definition. So, back to the dictionary for a definition of fit. The dictionary defines the adjective fit as “in good physical condition, healthy.” OK, so a little better there – but it seems vague and still not particularly helpful.  But I suppose a better question would be – what does fitness mean to you? It seems to me that we all tend to view fitness through our own lens. Ask an endurance runner what fitness is and she’ll likely answer that it’s someone who can go long distances. Ask a sprinter and the answer is likely to be someone who is very fast. Ask a power lifter and the answer will almost certainly include strength and the ability to lift very heavy things. Today’s guest has her own take on the definition of what it means to be fit, and I think you’ll be hard pressed to argue with her definition! My guest today is Dr. Paula Chambers. Paula is a dance healer and somatic educator whose mission is helping people build wellness, mindfulness, and self-esteem by moving to music, sensing their bodies, and feeling their feeling. Build a Stronger Mind and Memory with Francine Waskavitz

Text us a comment or question! How many of you can relate to this? You walk from your living room to you home office. But now you’re standing in the middle of the room looking around. What the heck was it that you came in here for? You rack your brain… still nothing. So you decide to retrace your steps. Back to the living room. Hmmm, no apparent clues here. And while you can’t remember what it was that sent you to your office in the first place, you do remember that it seemed important. What’s going on here? Are these warning signs of early stages of dementia? Or does our memory just start to diminish as we age? Today’s guest says that while memory loss as we age is common it is NOT normal! My guest today is Francine Waskavitz. Francine is a speech-language pathologist, and integrative health and nutrition coach, and memory health coach who specializes in helping people build better, stronger, more resilient minds and memory. Escape From Emotional Eating with Jessica Procini

Text us a comment or question!Indulge me for a moment, and let’s imagine this together. Let’s picture a woman who is a boss babe, she has her act together. She’s a type A over achiever and she gets things done. She’s kicked ass in her career, climbed the corporate ladder and is by all measures highly successful in her work life.  Her kids were outstanding children, made straight As in school, went to highly regarded universities, and of course excelled there and now are starting their own successful careers. She’s on the board of a national nonprofit and her name regularly comes up when discussing who’s who in her community. From outward appearances this woman is successful and in full control of her life. But this woman has a secret. She is in full control of all aspects of her life – except one. She’s an emotional eater. And paradoxically the more successes she experienced in her life, the more she turned to food for comfort.  How can this be? How could this woman be so intelligent, so successful, so together in all areas of her life except when it comes to something as simple and fundamental as eating? My guest today is Jessica Procini. Jessica is the founder of Escape from Emotional Eating and is on a mission to help high achievers heal the roots of their emotional eating so they can use food as a nourishing asset rather than a self-destructive way to cope, soothe and attempt to escape their busy, stressful lives. Jessica’s work has received multiple awards from the Institute of Psychology of Eating and she’s been featured in noteworthy media outlets such as ABC, CBS, and MindBodyGreen. Join us today as Jessica shares her own story as well as well as how to stop using food to cope and start using food to thrive. You can connect with Jessica in the following ways: Main website - https://escapefromemotionaleating.comFree 4 Roots of Emotional Eating Clarity Quiz - www.innerwork.meYouTube - https://www.youtube.com/c/JessicaProcini Sponsor Information – MAPS Fitness Productswww.silveredgepartners.comUse coupon code “OCTOBER50” for 50% off MAPS Symmetry all month in October 2022 Want more over 50 health and wellness goodness? Staying Socially Connected as We Age with Molly Wylie

Text us a comment or question! How has your social network changed over the last few years? Many of us as we age begin experience life changes that often affects our social circle. For example, many of you listening right now may have gone to an office for work every day pre Covid. And whether you loved or hated that job, you interacted with the same group of people every day – but perhaps now you work from home, and only occasionally interact with some of those same people over Zoom, WebEx and Skype. Or maybe we’ve recently changed careers, or maybe we’ve recently retired. Many of us are now empty nesters. We’re becoming grandparents. And many of us have slowed down as we’ve aged. We’ve let poor health, aches and pains, loss of energy and vitality prevent us from doing the things we loved to do when we were younger – and healthier – with our friends and family members. So my question to you is – how do we stay connected in an increasingly disconnected world? My guest today is Molly Wylie. Molly is a PhD candidate in gerontology and is the head of programming for Hank – a new digital platform for people over the age of 55 to help connect them with other people and activities in their communities.  Join us this week as Molly shares why it’s critical for us to remain socially connected and active as we age.  Website: https://www.gethank.com/feedOver 50 Health & Wellness Group on Hank: https://www.gethank.com/groups/over-50-health-wellness Sponsor Info: 2Pood - https://silveredgefitness.com/partners/Use coupon code “silveredge” for 10% off your order.Want more over 50 health & wellness goodness? Psychedelics For Everyone with Matt Zemon

Text us a comment or question! There are two types of us listening to this podcast right now. Those of us who have experimented with psychedelic or hallucinogenic drugs, and those of that haven’t. And when I say psychedelic drugs I’m talking about things like LSD, psilocybin (often referred to as magic mushrooms), peyote, DMT, mescaline, ayahuasca, and other consciousness altering substances. These substances had their heyday back in the late 60s and were championed by people like Timothy Leary and Terence McKenna. But then in the 70s the entire class of psychedelic substances were banned and made illegal here in the US. They became Schedule 1 drugs – which is the harshest classification of controlled substances and carry the potential for serios prison time for possessing these substances, and much more severe if you were caught selling them. And mass hysteria followed. We heard nightmarish tales of people having bad trips and falling to their deaths from tall buildings because they thought they could fly under the influence of these dangerous drugs. But there is another side to this story. Back in the 1960s there was some very promising research on the amazing healing properties of these substances – that they had the potential to be powerful medicines for treating things like PTSD, depression, addiction, and depression. But all that ground to a halt when these substances were declared illegal and dangerous. Today a new generation of researchers are re-examining the claims that these drugs are dangerous, and are exploring the amazing healing and life altering effects these medicines can have.   My guest today is Matt Zemon. Matt is the CEO on co-founder of HAPPYY, a mental wellness company that specializes in psychedelic-assisted therapy and the author of new book Psychedelics for Everyone: A Beginners Guide to These Powerful Medicines for Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, PTSD, and Expanding Consciousness. Join us this week as Matt helps us separate fact from hysteria and how we can safely and effectively use these powerful medicines. Whether you are already a fan of these medicines, or are simply psychedelic-curious, this is a fun and informative discussion you won’t want to miss! You can connect with Matt in the following ways: Main Website - https://www.mattzemon.comHappyy Website - https://www.happyy.meLinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattzemon/Instagram - @matt.zemonBook “Psychedelics for Everyone” – https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BF36K4RL Matt mentions the following resources in this episode: Dance Safe - https://dancesafe.orgNetflix “How to Change Your Mind” Series - https://www.netflix.com/title/80229847Retreat Guru - https://retreat.guruGuide to Micro Dosing - https://www.mattzemon.com/over50Spirit Pharmacist - https://www.spiritpharmacist.com Sponsor Information:Ned – www.silveredgepartners.comUse coupon code “silveredge” to get 15% off your first order. Want more👉 Join The Silver Edge Collective today and start building a lean, strong, healthy body you love for the rest of your life! https://go.silveredgefitness.com/silver-edge-collective

Coach's Corner - The Silver Edge Manifesto

Text us a comment or question!Today we have another edition of the Coaches Corner – so no guest today – it’s just me, and we’ll be back next week with our regular interview format. I thought it would be fun to talk about some of our core tenants and beliefs over here at the Silver Edge. So, I compiled a list of 15 ideas that make up our core philosophy. And here is the list in no particular order.1.     We can be in the best shape of our lives after age 502.     Metabolic health trumps weight loss3.     There are no shortcuts to a strong, lean, healthy body4.     We need to focus on building functional strength5.     Cardio sucks for weight loss6.     The food/pharma machine does not have our best interests at heart.7.     We are our own best health care advocates8.     We can be overweight AND undereating9.     The common advice of “eat less move more” is poor advice for most of us10.  Diets don’t work11.  The more restrictive the diet (keto, vegetarian, vegan, etc.) the more difficult to maintain optimal health12.  There is nothing magical in intermittent fasting13.  We should eat primarily whole foods14.  We should eat more quality protein15.  The common narrative of aging sucks!I realize that some of these might be controversial or maybe even triggering for some folks, but join me today as I walk through each of these core tenants. The links to all the resources we discussed in this episode are below:Shelly Stettner Interview - https://silveredgefitness.com/episode74/Free Metabolic Assessment – https://silveredge.ac-page.com/metabolic-assessmentCoach’s Corner – Lose 20 Pounds In 2 Months - https://silveredgefitness.com/episode139/Fix My Diet Assessment - https://silveredge.ac-page.com/fix-my-dietOver 50 Guide to Healthy Protein - https://silveredgefitness.com/free/ Want more over 50 Health & Wellness Goodness? How To Manifest Your Best Life with Sarah Vie

Text us a comment or question! We all know someone who talks about manifesting love abundance and joy in their life – or maybe you are that person. But what does that really mean? And how would we even start to manifest these things in our life?  Our guest today says that your thoughts and feelings are like magnets and that what you feel on the inside is what you attract from the outside. In other words, what you focus on is what you attract. I think it’s safe to say that deep down we all want to attract the same things – we want to have an abundant life. We all want to feel happy and joyful and in love with life.  Why is it then that so many of us feel like we don’t have joy, love, and abundance in our lives? What would our lives look like – how would we be different – if we learned to manifest the things we truly desired? My guest today is Sarah Vie. Sarah is an internationally sought out energy healer, meditation guide, and spiritual mentor, helping women and men break the cycle of their ancestral traumas so that they can live abundant, joyful, and peaceful lives. She is an award-winning author of the children’s book, Let Your Inner Golden Sparkle Shine, as well as I Wish I Had Known which is her memoir of her personal healing journey.  Join us today as Sarah helps us break the cycles of our past, and to heal and harness our energy to reimagine and manifest lives filled with love, joy, and abundance.  You can connect with Sarah in the following ways: Main website - https://sarahvie.com/Books - http://www.books.sarahvie.com/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/coachsarahvieInstagram - @sarah_vie_llcYouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBdv5Km1NJ7NjpLMUJ-8iCw Want more over 50 health and wellness goodness?
