Welcome to episode 192 of the Sexology Podcast! Today it’s my pleasure to welcome back Amir Mohebbi to the podcast. In this episode Amir and I talk about medical treatments for sexual dysfunctions, looking at the issues that cause sex to be painful and learning to change your lifestyle to improve your sex life.      Amir Mohebbi is a proud Iranian-American currently completing his psychiatry residency at St. Louis University. He trained under mentorship from world-renowned forensic psychiatrists, Drs. William J. Newman and Brian J. Holoyda, whom co=authored a review related to his interests in sleep medicine and forensics entitled “Sexsomnia as a Defense in Repeated Sex Crimes”.     Amir presented his work alongside an expert panel consisting of forensic psychiatrists at the American Psychiatric Association 175th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA. EP191 - What You Need to Know About Male Sexual Abuse with Dr. Kelli Palfy

Welcome to episode 191 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I’m excited to welcome Dr. Kelli Palfy to the podcast. In this episode Dr. Palfy talks to me about male sexual abuse, the stigma around this issue and understanding that recovery is possible.     Dr. Palfy has a unique background in working with victims of sexual abuse.  She obtained her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Alberta in 2016. When conducting her doctoral research, she examined the reasons why males do not commonly disclose sexual abuse. She was well-prepared to research this topic from the experience she gained in her prior profession in law enforcement. From 1995 - 2011 when she was a respected member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. During this, her prior career she focused on sex crimes investigations and specialized in the global sexual victimization of children where she gained experience in identifying the sophisticated grooming tactics used by perpetrators.       Dr. Palfy brings the many facets of her unique combination of professional experience and perspective to her practice. She is now a trained trauma therapist and public speaker. As a private practitioner, she works with male survivors of sexual abuse, as well as first responders and couples. She is trained in the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Outside of her professional life she is an avid outdoor adventurer, enjoying hiking, cycling, swimming, kayaking, and paddle boarding. EP185 - Madonna and Whore Complex with Dr. Peyman Raoofi

Welcome to episode 185 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I am delighted to welcome Dr. Peyman Raoofi to the podcast. In this episode Dr. Raoofi speaks with me about the Madonna and whore complex, its complexities for relationships, how we can learn to adjust our own behaviors and learning to see your partner in a different light.     Dr. Peyman Raoofi, licensed clinical psychologist in California, holds a Doctorate and Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University and a Bachelor's degree in psychology from California State University, Northridge with Summa Cum Laude Honors.     He is currently working in his own private practice with individuals, couples and families. In addition Dr. Raoofi is contracted with multiple Long Term Care Facilities and Nursing Homes as consultant psychologist.     He has many years of experience working with children on the spectrum of Autism/Asperger, and Mental Retardation. Throughout his trainings for intense psychosocial interventions he has been trained for ABA methodologies and DTT program in treating children with challenging behaviors. He has trainings from Johns Hopkins University and Yale University on science of well-being and health psychology. In addition Dr. Raoofi has worked as a social worker with geriatric population at an Adult Day Health Care Center.     UNICEF, Relief International and Human Rights Council are other organizations that Dr. Raoofi has been actively involved to help disadvantaged children on a global level. He is a lifetime member of the Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology, Golden Key International Honor Society, recipient of Gold honor of the US President’s Volunteer Service Award from President George W. Bush and President Obama's Call to Service Award. He also has been recognized as an Honorary Ambassador by UNICEF and recognized as a Mental Health Hero by Chicago School of Psychology.      Dr. Raoofi is currently serving on the Boards of Iranian Psychological Association of America (IPAA), Los Angeles County Psychological Association (LACPA) and Profamily Group.     Dr. Raoofi is an International speaker and has been a guest speaker in many universities including MIT, UCLA, Cal State Los Angeles, Chicago School of Psychology, California School of Psychology, Pepperdine University and Sharif University.
