141. Navigating Through Excuses and Towards Fitness with Paul Hearding

Over 7.9 billion people in the planet and yet only a handful can claim to be successful. We believe these few are the ones who left nothing to chance, made no excuses, and just pushed through! It’s hard to fathom the idea of making your own luck when you’ve yet to experience it for yourself. But your own experiences aren’t the only teachers you can learn from. Get ready for some serious education with Paul Hearding. By profession, Paul is an educator. He and his wife own a tutoring business where they do hands-on work of tutoring their own students. Besides his career, Paul is also kept busy by his weight lifting and fitness endeavors, taking part in different challenges including the Kaged Muscle Challenge, where he personally got to train with Kris. He wasn’t always the fit and healthy person that he is today. Being an educator, his work can easily become a 12-hr job especially during school days. Adding to a busy work day, Paul lives in a community where the nearest grocery store is a 2-hr drive (to and from), and meal preparation has never been easy. Paul isn’t exactly living in an environment that others would consider as highly-conducive for a fitness lifestyle. 140. Achieving the Transformation You Desire with Ross Assenheim

Transformations are more often results of choices rather than circumstances! The desire to transform is not in short supply. People want to change their lives, have bigger houses, earn more money, spend more time with their families, and have healthier bodies. Despite these desires, very few actually achieve their goals, because most people look to their circumstances instead of themselves. Most people attribute deteriorating health to work and family obligations, overwhelming amounts of stress, old injuries, among other excuses that form a long list, EXCLUDING PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY! On today’s episode, we’ve got Ross Assenheim to set the record straight! There will always be work, family obligations, stress, and other issues that will interrupt your transformation, ONLY if you let these factors take the wheel. Ross is a husband, and a father of 2 kids. He works insane hours (in the evening) managing his business, comes home to fulfill his obligations to his family, gets very little sleep, BUT still manages to find time to go to the gym and maintain a fit and healthy body! Before he decided to take control of his life, he was overweight and was suffering from slipped discs. To keep himself awake during the night, he consumes large amounts of sugar and caffeine in energy drinks. Besides that, he also craved heavily for sweets like chocolates. However, his body could only tolerate so much abuse. He started having a hard time moving and he experienced more aches and pains. That’s when he decided he needed to take charge in taking back his health. Getting inspiration from different biohackers, he went on a journey to build a fit and healthy body. 139. Why Kaged Muscle is now KAGED

With evolution comes renewed purpose and renewed life! Think about it! Sooner or later, we’re bound to outgrow our current roles. And if we don’t evolve, we risk falling into a life of redundancy, of wasted talents and opportunities, and of less than meaningful existence – that which is no way to live at all! In this solo episode, Kris Gethin recounts his journey of evolution and what that meant for Kaged Muscle. He went to college and took up International Health and Sports Therapy. From there, he took other courses and certifications in order to expand his knowledge on what he was passionate about. Kris knew he couldn’t wear the skin of being just a student forever. In order to grow further in pursuit of his passion, he had to apply what knew, thus deciding to compete in his first body-building competition. From there, he became a personal trainer, became editor-in-chief of a body-building website, and also became a video trainer. It was at the time of being a video trainer that Kris felt more responsibility towards the supplements he suggested to his audience, and so he started testing all sorts of supplements. There he began understanding the gaps in the food supplement industry. Wanting to bridge the health and performance sectors, he partnered with close friends who shared in his goal and they came up with Kaged Muscle. As Kris and his partners continued growing as people and professionals, so did Kaged Muscle. They began to feel they weren’t doing themselves justice by remaining as Kaged Muscle. Some people thought the brand was too hardcore. If they wanted to help MORE people achieve their health goals, they had to balance “healthy” and “hardcore”. 138. How to Survive a 10 Day Retreat

The road to achieving great mental and physical health can be difficult when our heads are filled with noise! In that journey, having the focus to maintain hard work and dedication is of utmost importance, but that’s what most of us fall short of. It can only get easier when we develop discipline and start “seeing things the way they really are” – the very definition of Vipassana! Vipassana meditation is a technique taught at 10-day residential courses. Participants go on retreat in order to learn basics of the method, and immerse themselves in practice in order to experience its benefits. This is a great method that fosters mental and physical health, but is no means a “magic bullet”. It requires hard work and dedication, and participants are known to drop out of the course. People second guess the program, underestimate the value of it, or overestimate themselves believing they can easily master the course on their own without the difficult challenges. This begs the question, why go through with it at all? Why bother finishing the program?
