Access to Justice Tech with Amanda Brown of Lagniappe Law Lab -LegalTechLIVE - Episode 088

We committed to doing at least one episode a month on the topic of #accesstojustice. This is one of those episodes. The way Amanda Brown came to our attention was her incredible hustle to improve access to justice for consumers in Louisiana. She definitely encompasses the entrepreneurial spirit, even though she works in the #legalaid field. Amanda Brown's personal website refers to her as "young lawyer and #legaltech geek." Legaltech geek? That's our entire demographic! Amanda recognized a need for a centralized technology resource center, so she formed Lagniappe (LAN-Yap) Law Lab to serve Louisiana's civil justice system. Her organization, she is the founder and Executive Director, provides direct technology consulting and project management services to legal service providers and justice community members across the state. Through the use of technology, design thinking, and operations principles, Lagniappe Law Lab aims to put people at the center of the legal process, bringing a more streamlined legal service experience to Louisiana's underprivileged populations. After continually seeing amazing efforts by Amanda, Nick Rishwain asked her to join and share about her innovative solutions to civil justice problems. During the recent COVID-19 crisis, Amanda went to work using document automation service, Community Lawyer, to create several simple solutions for those impacted by the crisis. She created a rent relief "letter generator" where consumers could input their data and have a professional letter drafted, which they could then send to their landlord asking for a rent reduction or other relief. Soon thereafter, Amanda noticed the need for some guidance with the economic impact navigator related to the CARES Act stimulus program. Being proactive, she created a simplified version to help marginalized populations discover if they could expect any stimulus money. There was only one co-host to be chosen for this episode. Diego Alcala, a past guest-host, assisted Amanda in creating the Spanish-language version of the rent relief tool. We hope you enjoy this episode and Amanda's proactive efforts to better serve consumers in her state. Jorge Izquierdo CEO of AragonOne discusses AragonProject Digital Courts - LegalTechLIVE - 083

Jorge Izquierdo, CEO of Aragon.one, believes that decentralized organizations can solve the world's problems. He and his team are working to create a decentralized autonomous organization, #DAO, capable of solving those problems. We had him on the show to discuss the AragonProject, found at aragon.org, and their digital jurisdictions and digital court. You can actually sign up to be a juror and help solve disputes taking place in their system. You do have to use Ethereum coins to buy tokens on the Aragon system in order to be a juror. But in order to see how a digital court is already working, testing out this service is valuable. Nick Rishwain was joined, again, by former guest and friend Adam Kerpelman of Juris. Adam is quite knowledgeable in a variety of technology areas and has written a white paper on #blockchain technologies similar to what Aragon has instituted. If you really enjoy seeing Nick Rishwain out of his depth... which isn't too hard to do, you'll enjoy this episode where Jorge and Adam talk shop and Nick listens. #legaltech #crypto More About Jorge Izquierdo & Aragon: Jorge Izquierdo on Twitter: https://twitter.com/izqui9.
