#326: How to Lead When Busy, Scaling, or Failing with Matt Lesser

A familiar face on Lanci's other podcast series is here! This discussion with Matt Lesser includes:Lessons from working with leaders on every continentWhat its like growing up in a household of entrepreneursFrom creating business and private equity to finding passion as an entrepreneurIntegrating pillars of leadershipMeet Matt: I grew up in a small, lake community in northeast Indiana. We moved there because my dad had an opportunity to buy into a wholesale oil distributorship.Growing up in a town of 700, living with a family business, and attending a small, Christian school (my graduating class had 7) gave me a very narrow, sheltered view of life. After graduating after my Junior year, I jumped into Indiana University where I quickly realized how sheltered my life had been!Thinking I would pursue a Master's, my career took an unexpected turn. Instead of resigning, which I attempted, my dad left...and turned the business over to me. Thinking I could do anything because I was 25, arrogant, and prideful, I was about to experience reality. Within months, the business failed, and I went through a dark, suicidal depression. Nearly a year later, a new business was born from the ashes, and nearly 12 years later that business was sold. I then spent 12 years in private equity. It was during my years running the family business and in private equity that I grew passionate about leadership--healthy, flourishing leadership. Over the last 25 years, I trained, facilitated, coached, and led leaders, leadership teams, and boards all over the world. I wanted each leader to become the best possible version of themselves so they would do the same for the team members and organizations they led. I picked up training and certifications in nearly 20 leadership, personality, and team-building assessments, and I also picked up an MBA along the way.In 2021, I finally jumped "all in" into my own business, after being told by many whom I had worked with over the years that I needed to do this. Little did they know, I had actually felt a tug on my heart--a calling--to speak, train, and facilitate when I was a teenager.Have a question for a guest or host? #324: Visiting Bali Leads to Creativity + Flowers with Erica Holland

Welcome to Episode 4 of the Lowth Entrepreneurship Center Bonus Series! If you enjoy this show, subscribe to this podcast for weekly episodes.Other discussion areas:-how Bali played a role in creating this company-lessons learned from her first event to now-how she has expanded, and tips for your expansion-arrangements for beginnersMeet Holland: My journey with flowers started from a young age when, like most young girls, I would go outside, pick weeds, and arrange them in vases around my house. As I grew, I always loved to create arts and crafts, and to this day, I love a good DIY project.  I decided I was at a block in my career with what I wanted to do, so like most logical people I jumped on a plane and headed to Bali to figure things out. Well, boom, I was there for 4 months, and while exploring the beautiful island of the gods, I rediscovered my passion for flowers and realized this is what I was meant to do. However, I didn't just want to be a florist; I wanted to teach others how to arrange flowers and bring them the same joy that it brings me. Low and behold, The Roaming Petal was born. Here we are today, bringing floral workshops to people's homes and events, and I couldn't be happier. About The Roaming Petal:We bring educational, fun, and healing floral design workshops right to your home or event. You will not only learn tons of flower tips and tricks but also how to relax, ground, and reconnect through flowers. Check out the video version of this podcast here: Click here to tune into Holland's mental health journey with her interview on A Mental Health Break click here. If you missed Episode 1 of the bonus series with Dr. Rebecca White, click here.If you missed Episode 2 of the bonus series with Yogi Mandhi, click here.If you missed Episode 3 of the bonus series with Chris Adamo, click here.Looking to connect with the host or guest?
