It’s similar to astrology in the sense that it peels back the layers to reveal who we are and how we work, allowing us to get into a flow where we can exist with less pushing and resistance … and damn, if I don’t need more of that in my life!  Human Design draws from other systems like astrology, Kabbalah, quantum physics, genetics, bio physics, and MORE. I absolutely love this because it totally reflects my personal philosophy as an herbalist. I don’t practice just one thing! I pull from Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, Western herbal medicine, etc. and create my own way of doing things. In Episode 5 we learned that 2020 is a year of completion — the year to wrap up old stories and patterns, and close the door on anything that is holding us back from our next level. Today’s episode is an honest yet daringly playful guide to HOW you can let go of fear and start your new story. If you’ve been feeling stuck or frustrated, like you’re standing in your own way but just can’t take the first step, this is for you. Katharine Hargreaves, founder of The Fearless Experiment teaches us (with full-on gusto) that so much of our fear is actually just blocked excitement. That there’s a part of us just dying to run and jump into the unknown even if we find a million reasons not to. She explains her method of challenging yourself to simply take action by (a) starting with the smallest first step possible, and (b) telling people you trust to hold you accountable. She explains why pressuring yourself to be the “problem solver” is really just a mechanism of survival that we got stuck in along the way; that we should care a lot more about getting to KNOW the problem first rather than judging how well we employ a solution. We need to learn how to hold ourselves in the mystery… experimentation is valuable play, and if we could stop taking ourselves so seriously, we’d do it a lot more. Sometimes the solution you’re seeking looks a lot different than originally expected, but you’ll never know until you act. Ep. #07 - STRESS PART 2 - how to get out of fight or flight mode and improve sleep, digestion & libido

Get ready for part two of our debut episode, The Stress Bible. This week we’re diving even deeper into “sympathetic dominance” (chronic fight or flight mode) and what impact this has on the body physiologically. When you can’t calm down, you can’t “secrete” properly (both hormones and fluids) meaning you may have issues sleeping, digesting, eliminating, or getting horny. Olivia and Nick get personal and candid about what puts them in fight or flight mode and how they cope — especially when they feel guilty for resting. We discuss our generation’s obsession with productivity plus the oh so nuanced PERCEIVED stress (and how to flip the script mentally). Stress can be a huge catalyst for change, so using it wisely and seeing it differently is key to overcoming it. Throughout the episode, we’re constantly talking about hacks and tools you can use to spend more time in PARAsympathetic mode (rest and digest – which is the opposite of sympathetic dominance). These range from CBD and herbs all the way to simply using your own breath. HEALING GENERATIONAL TRAUMA w/ DR. ZELINA - how she recovered from lupus and why healing is more than just physical

In this week's episode Olivia sits down with Dr. Zelina Medina, who became a doctor of acupuncture after being diagnosed with the autoimmune disease lupus. Together we explore the steps she took to heal, and chat about the root cause of autoimmunity through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine. While changing her diet made a huge difference, she credits her progress even more so to shamanic medicine ceremonies such as soul retrieval in order to tackle the many layers of disease. Dr. Z explains that a part of the soul gets lost, or detached from the self, when we experience childhood trauma — this affects us physically, and even gets passed on generationally. Luckily the science is catching up, and thanks to tools like the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) questionnaire, we now have concrete evidence that early emotional trauma can increase your risk for chronic illness later in life.
