Gospel Simplicity Podcast
Austin Suggs
The Gospel Simplicity Podcast is centered around the conviction that the gospel is really good news. Here you will find conversations with Christians from various traditions as we seek to unpack the beautiful simplicity and transformative power of the gospel. Gospel Simplicity is known for ecumenical dialogue that is charitable and open to learning from people with whom you might disagree. We believe that God desires for his Church to be one, united in love for God and neighbor, and on mission to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to all people.

This video is sponsored by Faithful Counseling. For 10% off your first month, use the link, http://www.faithfulcounseling.com/gospelsimplicityHumility is often praised and rarely practiced. Recently, Dr. Gavin Ortlund took on the unenviable job of attempting to write about humility, something he confesses leaves him only able to make jokes about. After all, how do you promote a book you wrote on humility? If anyone can do it, it's Gavin. In this video, Gavin and I explore his thoughts on humility, social media, and much more. The Real History of St. Nicholas, and how he became Santa Claus (w/ Dr. Adam C. English)
This video is sponsored by Faithful Counseling. For 10% off your first month, use the link, http://www.faithfulcounseling.com/gospelsimplicitySt. Nicholas of Myra was born in the 3rd century, in what is now Turkey. He rose to some prominence as a bishop, held a low profile at the Council of Nicaea, and was known locally as a great man. But none of that explains how he became associated around the world with the legendary figure who, with his flying reindeer, brings kids all around the world toys one night per year. In this interview, I'm joined by one of the leading scholars on St. Nicholas, Dr. Adam C. English, to learn more about the true story of St. Nicholas and how he became Santa Claus. Should Christians busy themselves with more important things than reading about Hobbits? In this video, I'm joined by Orthodox priest and Tolkien enthusiast, Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick, to talk all things LOTR. We cover everything from his favorite scene to his take on Rings of Power, as well as how the Lord of the Rings can help you read the Bible better. It was born out of the central conviction that the gospel is really good news, and I wanted to share that with as many people as possible. The channel has grown and changed over time, but that central conviction has never changed. Today, we make content around biblical and theological topics, often interacting with people from across the Christian tradition with the hope of seeking greater unity and introducing people to the beautiful simplicity and transformative power of the gospel, the good news about Jesus.Support the show

Orthodoxy: The Fulfillment of African American Spirituality? (w/ Fr. Paul Abernathy)
This video is sponsored by Faithful Counseling. For 10% off your first month, use the link, http://www.faithfulcounseling.com/gospelsimplicityWhen people think of Eastern Orthodoxy, they often think of ancient traditions, incense, Greek culture, and so forth. Rarely is "African American Spirituality" on the list. That's why, when I heard of Fr. Paul Abernathy's book, The Prayer of a Broken Heart: An Orthodox Christian Reflection on African American Spirituality, I was instantly intrigued. In this video, Fr. Paul and I discuss everything from the history of African American spirituality to St. Moses the Black to the overlaps between Orthodoxy and African American Spirituality. It's a fascinating conversation, and likely one you haven't heard elsewhere.Check out his book: https://amzn.to/3JxnkR8Learn more about Neighborhood Resilience Project: https://neighborhoodresilience.org/Support Gospel Simplicity:Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/gospelsimplicityOne Time Donation: https://www.paypal.me/gospelsimplicityMerch: https://gospelsimplicity.creator-spring.comFollow Gospel Simplicity on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gospelsimplicityInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/gospelsimplicitySupport the show

The Context and Meaning of the Cross: An Orthodox Perspective (w/ Dr. Eugenia Constantinou)
This video is sponsored by Faithful Counseling. For 10% off your first month, use the link, http://www.faithfulcounseling.com/gos...Sometimes familiarity can be the enemy of understanding. So it is, often times, with the crucifixion of Jesus. For so many of us, we've grown up hearing the story of Jesus' death on the cross, and we have an answer in our back pocket from Sunday school about why Jesus needed to die on the cross, but beyond that, we may not really understand all that much about what led to Jesus' death, what crucifixion entailed, and perhaps most importantly, the true meaning of the cross. In this video, I'm joined by Orthodox biblical scholar Dr. Eugenia Constantinou to discuss the crucifixion in context. We cover the Jewish and Roman trials, the parallels with the binding of Isaac, the physicality of crucifixion, and ultimately, the meaning of it all. What Vatican II REALLY Teaches (w/ Fr. Blake Britton)
This video is sponsored by Faithful Counseling. For 10% off your first month, use the link, http://www.faithfulcounseling.com/gospelsimplicityFew things spark more internet controversy among Catholics than Vatican II. As many seek to be faithful to the tradition of the church, they wonder what to do with Vatican II, this council that seems to be the source of so many problems in the Church today. Whether it's irreverent liturgies or heterodox theology, Vatican II is seen by many to be the birthplace of many ills. However, in this video I'm joined by Fr. Blake Britton as we take a deep dive into the history and texts of the Second Vatican Council. We explore why the council was called., what it teaches, and how the implementation of the council often radically differed from the teachings of the council. Get Fr. The Medieval Mind of CS Lewis (w/ Dr. Jason Baxter)
This video is sponsored by Faithful Counseling. For 10% off your first month, use the link, http://www.faithfulcounseling.com/gospelsimplicityCS Lewis is beloved by Christians from across the spectrum of the Christian tradition for his erudite yet accessible apologetics and his winsome fiction writing. However, most people aren't familiar with a "third Lewis" which he himself saw foundational to his identity: Lewis the Medievalist. A celebrated scholar and Oxford Don, Lewis spent most of his life researching medieval texts and lecturing students on the importance of honing their Latin. In this interview, I'm joined by Dr. Jason Baxter to discuss the Medieval Mind of CS Lewis, and in doing so, we talk about the importance of learning in our fast-paced, soundbite culture. We explore the writers and theologians who most impacted Lewis and discuss how we might imitate his love for learning.
