Perfectionism Fuelled Success & A Dangerous Obsession ft. Amy Ruffle.
Amy Ruffle is an actress, comedian & all-round entertainer. In her adolescent years, Amy trained & competed as an elite diver. It was the early foundation of a relationship with perfectionism that eventually proved to be detrimental to her health, leading her down the path of an eating disorder that she courageously & vulnerably opens up about in the episode. From the age of 13, acting was on the radar. After leaving school Amy studied musical theatre before landing her first role on TV in Netflix's 'Mako Mermaids'. The show lasted 4 seasons before she left Australia to pursue a career in Hollywood. The 6 years spent in LA introduced her to improv comedy which has no doubt played a major role in her career development & her recent work as one of the consistent faces on the most recent season of Australian TV classic 'Thank God You're Here'.She is also a producer, writer & passionate advocate for a few worthy causes that are close to her heart.Outside of her career, Amy's life has had its fair share of adversity, twists & turns, which made for an honest & vulnerable conversation.Be sure to follow Amy & I on socials: (Insta/TikTok) @bradleyjdryburgh @amylouiseruffleTo book me for a keynote, check the link below:https://www.saxton.com.au/speakers/bradley-dryburghFollow/Subscribe to the show on your platform of choice, leave a 5 star rating & kind review to help us reach new listeners & uplift others like yourself around the world & share the episode with a mate that would find it valuable.Big love,Brad xx Hosted on Acast. Hooked On Life: Living Through The Lens Of The Author ft. Tom Nash.
Tom Nash aka 'DJ Hookie' is a quadruple amputee after narrowly surviving the grip of a shock meningococcal diagnosis now 20 years ago. He is the co-founder of Starfvckers, a Sydney based club in which he first headlined as DJ Hookie. He is a world renowned speaker & storyteller, having graced stages across the world including TED X in Sydney during 2019 to deliver his memorable keynote 'The Perks Of Being A Pirate', & he is a newly acclaimed author.Losing his limbs, particularly his arms has afforded Tom one of his most recognisable features: his pirate hooks. Recalling a conversation with Mark 'Chopper' Read, Tom described a desire to be remembered for more than his physical disability, to live a life interesting enough to write a memoir about. Not only has he lived a life rich in story but his story now finds its place on any good book shelf, by the title of 'Hook, Line & Sinner'.In this conversation we don't only follow some of Tom's story but we discuss ideas such as:- Why Tom embraces dark humour.- Narrowly surviving the meningococcal c-strain & why he had to have all 4 of his limbs amputated.- Playing the role of the 'author' & how this can afford you a meaningful life.- The life changing difference between resilience & 'anti-fragility'.- Reverse engineering your problems to create simple solutions.Be sure to follow Tom & I on socials: (Insta/TikTok) @bradleyjdryburgh @djhookieCheck out Tom's website for all speaking & book information:https://www.tomnash.com/To book me for a keynote, check the link below:https://www.saxton.com.au/speakers/bradley-dryburghFollow/Subscribe to the show on your platform of choice, leave a 5 star rating & kind review to help us reach new listeners & uplift others like yourself around the world & share the episode with a mate that would find it valuable.Big love,Brad xx Hosted on Acast. The aim is to inspire you to connect with your mates in vulnerability & hold space for each other on the foundation of unconditional love & support, whilst encouraging positive mental health. Defusing Explosives In Iraq & Afghanistan: Daniel Glenn's Philosophy For Life To Combat Death & Fear // VIDEO.
Daniel Glenn served in the United States Navy as an EOD (explosive ordinance disposal) Officer. Roughly 50% of war casualties in Iraq & Afghanistan between late 2011 & 2020 were attributed to IED's (improvised explosive devices), Daniels job was to disarm & dispose of those devices - high stakes but high reward when executed correctly.Since leaving the Navy, he completed a masters degree as a Schwarzman Scholar (the oldest person to do so at that time), broke a record for the fastest mile in an 85 pound bomb-suit & donned that same suit to complete a half marathon all to raise funds for veterans, he now works as chief of staff for fintech company GoodLeap LLC.My first meeting with Daniel was in March 2023. We shared the stage at a 3 day speaking summit in Sydney, he was the most effective speaker I had ever watched live. His story held weight & his experiences were inspiring. His life philosophy sang to the tune of 'face your fears, face your enemy (your own weakness), seek adversity, believe in yourself, hear the call to action: your life is today'. A philosophy that inspired much of our conversation, alongside the tale of his remarkable story & the ups & downs of a life that has thrust Dan into the face of danger & deep introspection on a shockingly regular basis.Be sure to follow me on socials: (Insta/TikTok) @bradleyjdryburgh To book me for a keynote, check the link below:https://www.saxton.com.au/speakers/bradley-dryburghFollow/Subscribe to the show on your platform of choice, leave a 5 star rating & kind review to help us reach new listeners & uplift others like yourself around the world & share the episode with a mate that would find it valuable! How A Former Drug Dealer Left Prison, Found Comedy & Changed His Life ft. Andrew Hamilton //VIDEO.
In June 2021, Andrew Hamilton was at the tail end of 2 day cocaine bender enjoying Guy Ritchie's 'Wrath Of Man' when NSW Police's 'Raptor Squad' kicked his door in & changed the trajectory of his life forever. Andrew was at the height of his drug dealing business, bringing in 5 figures a week. His beginnings in the Sydney underworld were as he describes, not morally challenging despite the knowledge he was breaking the law. Unlike heroin & ice, Andrew found his own moral comfort in the knowing that psychedelics weren't responsible for ruining their users lives. But somewhere along the line his own moral compass lost its way & his addictions to cocaine & gambling took over sending him on a spiral towards that fateful police raid that likely saved his life. After his arrest in 2021, Andrew was sentenced to a maximum security prison. Within the walls of his cell he found sobriety & introspection, with conditional bail, he was released to live with his parents & comedy became his saviour. In conversation with the award winning comic & soon to be published author, we reflected on his former life & the valuable lessons that has afforded him. We spoke of stand up comedy & what it gives him, all the whilst Andrew took every opportunity available to roast me & have me laughing uncontrollably for stretches of the episode. His story is one of changing your stars & the freedom that living a morally informed life gives your soul. I loved my time in conversation with Andrew & I am certain you will too.Be sure to follow Andrew & I on socials: (Insta/TikTok) @bradleyjdryburgh & @andrewhamiltoncomedyTo book me for a keynote, check the links below:https://www.saxton.com.au/speakers/bradley-dryburghTo listen to his podcast 'Shit Gone Sideways' https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/shits-gone-sideways/id1655988399https://open.spotify.com/show/5HcW5SAK2PWb1Rte6uc6db?si=25789b5d843d4af8https://www.youtube.com/@shitsgonesidewaysFollow/Subscribe to the show on your platform of choice, leave a 5 star rating & kind review to help us reach new listeners & uplift others like yourself around the world & share the episode with a mate that would find it valuable!Big love,Brad xx Hosted on Acast.
