Sunday Stillness: Self Esteem vs. Self Worth

Welcome to a new series I've created called Sunday Stillness. A few minutes each week to meditate on one idea that will bring us closer to who we want to become. This episode was inspired entirely by an IG reel from Katherine Morgan Schafler, author of The Perfectionist's Guide To Losing Control (one of my favorite books of 2023 and a 2024 selection for the Secret Stuff Book Club). Click here to watch the original reel. If you enjoy this Sunday Stillness episode, please share it with friends. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 209: Best Books Lately (with Sara Hildreth of Fiction Matters)

Sara Hildreth of Fiction Matters returns to the show so we can each share the best books that we've read lately. This conversation starts with a thoughtful discussion about reviewing books on social media (#Bookstagram #BookTok) versus being a literary critic and Sara makes some excellent points about the way we talk about books online these days. And then Sara and I each share four of the best books we've read lately, including a novel I just finished that may be one of my favorites of all time.SECRET STUFF MEMBERS GET BONUS MATERIAL FOR THIS EPISODE Sara shares a great backlist title and a celebrity memoir, and I share an interesting novel that flew under the radar last year and the book I'm flat embarrassed to recommend (but kind of loved).Follow Sara @fictionmatters on IGSign up for Sara's newsletterListen to Sara's podcast Novel PairingsSIGN UP FOR THE SECRET STUFF PATREONSecret Stuff Patreon members get an extended cut version of this episode that includes two more book recommendations coming out this spring and also Sara's new system for managing her TBR (To Be Read) stack, because who doesn't need help organizing all the amazing books we want to read? Also on Secret Stuff this week will be a deep dive on The Bee Sting by Paul Murray (because I just had to talk about this incredible novel with someone)Sara's Best Books Lately:The Custom of the Country by Edith WhartonThe Laughter by Sonora JhaBest of Friends by Kamila ShamsieRun Towards the Danger by Sarah PolleyLaura's Best Books Lately:The Bee Sting by Paul MurrayAll The Sinners Bleed by S.A. Ep 208: How My Anxiety Has Changed In My 40s

It's been awhile since we've talked directly about mental health, and I wanted to give a personal update about what I've noticed is different about my lifelong anxiety in the last few years. I attribute these changes to aging, and evolving lifestyle, and a few different habits that I have really prioritized since I turned 40.As always when I share on this topic, it is meant to be purely my own experience and is not medical advice.FULL SHOW NOTES HEREMENTIONED in this episode:Sorta Awesome Episode 26: The Truth About AnxietySorta Awesome Episode 101: The Truth About Anxiety (Part II)10 Things To Tell You Episodes by Topic (scroll to the mental health section)Episode 18, 10 Thoughts on AnxietyEpisode 86: 10 Thoughts On TherapyEpisode 182: 10 Things About 10 Years in TherapyEpisode 203: Meditation for Beginners SUBSCRIBE to 10 Things To Tell You so you never miss an episode!CLICK HERE for episode show notesFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on InstagramFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on FacebookJOIN the 10 Things To Tell You Connection GroupSIGN UP for episode emails, links, and show notesJOIN the Secret Stuff PatreonBUY THE BOOK: Share Your Stuff. Ep 203: Meditation for Beginners

Published Jan 16, 2024Mindfulness meditation has changed my life. It has helped with my anxiety, productivity, and inner peace. But even though I'd been hearing about the benefits of this practice (and even read several books on it!), it took me years to get started. Mostly this is because I thought meditating had to be formal. I thought it required a certain amount of time or a certain personality type. But this isn't true! Anyone can meditate. You can start as small as one minute at a time. In this episode, mindfulness educator Laurie Cousins walks us through 10 tips for the meditation-curious, those beginning a meditation journey, and anyone in need of a refresher for what a meditation practice can bring. Laurie Cousins is our guest today and she leads the meditation group that finally got me to make this practice a regular part of my life. Laurie has trained at UCLA and USD and specializes in trauma and resiliency. She is also passionate about mindful parenting, and facilities several groups with this focus. LEARN MORE ABOUT LAURIE COUSINS HEREFOLLOW LAURIE COUSINS ON IG FULL SHOW NOTES HEREJOIN JOURNALING for GROWNUPS HERE SUBSCRIBE to 10 Things To Tell You so you never miss an episode!CLICK HERE for episode show notesFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on InstagramFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on FacebookJOIN the 10 Things To Tell You Connection GroupSIGN UP for episode emails, links, and show notesJOIN the Secret Stuff PatreonBUY THE BOOK: Share Your Stuff.
