Ep046 - Designing productivity with Angela Ferguson
With organisations facing the challenge of talent attraction and the great resignation/realignment well underway. Now is the perfect time for businesses to reassess their workspaces.
We're very pleased to introduce Angela Ferguson the Co-founder & Managing Director of Future X Collective, a workplace consultancy.
Future X Collective researched over 9000 Australian workers to assess what role the ‘office’ will play in the future of work and this research won a 2021 Good Design Award.
We know that the workplace is much more than a physical space, it has to be productive, sustainable, innovative, and unique to an organisation’s culture.
Angela has over 20 years’ experience working with Google, PwC, REA Group, Johnson and Johnson, MYOB and is currently undertaking her PhD in Architecture and Urban Design.
We speak with Angela to learn a bit more about what the research findings are telling us about the future of work, how workplaces can actually design for productivity and performance and talk best practice industry examples from her consulting experience.

Ep045 - The Power of Resilience - powered by icare's paralympian speakers
2020 demonstrated the importance of resilience and how it impacts our day-to-day lives. Well Workplaces is excited to partner with icare NSW to bring you a live workplace health and safety panel discussion.
Three Paralympians will join Tom Bosna and share their stories of how they have overcome adversity to achieve their personal and professional goals.
Joany Badenhorst, Grant Mizens OAM and John Marshall detail their life-changing workplace accident, journey of recovery and return to work, and their road to becoming a Paralympian. They open up about the challenges of living with disability and re-entering the workforce and also discuss how organisations can best support those returning to work after an injury and ways to create an inclusive culture.
With a passionate panel of speakers, this event will empower you and your teams to build resiliency. Our panellists demonstrate that with the support of others, an injury can be a new beginning; a person can recover and go on to contribute to a workplace and the community or, like in their own life stories, become a top-performing athlete.
All three panellists are part of icare NSW's Paralympian Speakers Program, which provides icare customers with access to Paralympians who have been affected by workplace injury to talk to their team free of charge.

Ep044 - How to get the f#!% to sleep
As a self confessed sloth, Tom certainly does love a good nap and needs his beauty sleep.
It sure is interesting to note that two out of five Australians struggle with sleep on regular basis. That includes getting to sleep and staying asleep. That's a whopping 10.3 million Australians not napping for the recommended 7 to 9 hours.
We know that sleeping, rest and restoration are vital to our overall well-being and Dr. Natalie Flatt Ph.D and Tom talk about how to get to sleep, stay asleep and the key reasons why some people are struggling with this issue. Thanks for listening to the the final Well Workplaces episode of Season 3.

Ep042 - How to manage Toxic Positivity with Dr Natalie Flatt Ph.D
Sometimes you just have to see the good in everything.
They say everything happens for a reason.
They say you’ll get over it.
And finally good vibes only.
What do all of these statements have in common? They are actually quite toxic. In a world that froths on the pursuit of happiness, it seems quite obvious how the simplification of our feelings can leave people feeling a bit well ‘blah’. You only need to look up hashtag #goodvibesonly on Instagram and you will be hit with a massive 15.3 million posts of perfectly angled pictures that highlight perfection and happiness. What about the other vibes that exist in the human experience?
Dr. Natalie Flatt Ph.D and Tom Bosna are excited to be tackling the topic of toxic positivity in this episode. We dissect the topic of toxic positivity, discuss practical examples of how this plays out in relationships and workplaces We will also tackle some strategies on how to deal with toxic positivity in the workplace and discuss how leaders can approach this to support their team members.
We promise to bring the #goodvibesonly and Tom to never use the word vibes in real life interactions in future.

Ep041 - Chief Wellbeing Officer #2 - The Right to Disconnect in the Workplace
The Chief Wellbeing Officer update is a fortnightly insight column by Tom Bosna, which he writes on LinkedIn and for the Well Workplaces community.
For the second CWO, the question is - do you have the right to disconnect in the workplace?
The Eight Hours workday Act was passed for Victoria and New South Wales, Australia in 1916. Fast forward to now and the Fourth industrial Revolution is in full effect and the boundaries between the physical and digital worlds are getting pretty darn blurry - especially at work!
Throw in a global pandemic, add in the eight hour work mindset and then stir in Mark Zuckerberg talking about the Metaverse and things are feeling pretty damn weird (I personally prefer Icelandverse).
So back to the question - do you have the right to disconnect at your work?

Ep040 - How are food and mood connected?
Are you kicking off the year with a toasted cheese sandwich lunch habit that you need to shake?
We're excited to be talking with Dr. Natalie Flatt Ph.D on the topic of working through the science on how food and mood are connected.
At the start of the year, it is quite common for most of use to endeavour to 'eat better' and it normally comes from a place of wanting to lose weight.
A growing body of science in the field of cognitive nutrition shows that food-brain connection is actually one of the most powerful drivers of our overall wellbeing.
Natalie and Tom talk about emotional eating, some of the interesting science around the food and mood connection, as well as touch on burnout and nutrition.

Ep039 - How to reignite motivation while working from home
A vision board, goal setting, planning to make a plan, a new diary, positive affirmation and a fresh start.
These are all the things that I associate with the start of the year. Often we start the year great intentions but fail to strike up long term motivation to make it rain all year round. These things either excite you like a kid being told they run fast in there new pair of shoes or makes you roll your eyes and think, not this 'new year, new me' toxic positivity shite again.
While most of us find ourselves returning to work remotely - Dr. Natalie Flatt Ph.D and Tom Bosna are kicking off the year to talk about motivation in this episode. It's totally OK - not to feel super pumped and highly motivated just because the calendar has changed over to January. During this discussion, we will explore the psychology of intrinsic motivation, what it is and how it can help us. We will discuss how to cultivate motivation using some proven strategies and tactics used by high performers, especially while many of us work from home to start the year.

The key benefits of exercise and activity
The Australian guidelines and recommendations of exercise
Five key tips for creating a movement break during your working day

Ep037 - How language can create positive behavioral change
"If you can change your mind, you can change your life".
Who said that?
You can thank William James for the wisdom on this one. He is the father of American Psychology and developer of the philosophical school of Pragmatism.
And don't we all need to be pragmatic moving through the start of 2022?!
I'm excited to chat with Dr. Natalie Flatt Ph.D on the topic of
- How a mindset renovation can lead to positive behaviour change
- How words and language can facilitate behaviour modification
- The practical psychology and tips on how to create a growth mindset in a rapidly changing world
We all have the capacity to change, grow, and develop in whatever we set our minds to do - we just have to believe it and be pragmatic.
