#178 Why Our Boys Are Struggling, Reframing Toxic Masculinity & Creating a New Script for Manhood with Richard Reeves

My guest today is British author and Brookings Institute scholar Richard Reeves. Richard's latest book Of Boys and Men explores the reality of what is happening with our men and boys in the education system, workplace and home environment. I wanted to have this conversation with Richard because as a woman who has benefited so much from the women's equality movement and title nine I was curious if it was possible for our society To elevate all of its members simultaneously. I have three daughters, Richard has three sons and our observations of what they experience is almost polar opposite. In so many wonderful ways we have changed the script, the only thing left to do is to figure out how to rewrite the new one for men and boys. I found his book a compelling argument for trying to figure out how exactly we all can do that. #176 Uplifting and Heart-Wrenching Stories from Yellowstone's Alpha Wolves with 'Wolf Whisperer' Rick McIntyre

My guest today is an author and "wolf whisperer" Rick McIntyre. Rick is a Naturalist who has been observing wolves in Yellowstone Park since they were reintegrated in 1995.His fourth book in his wolf series, THE ALPHA FEMALE WOLF, follows female alpha 06 and her two partners, brothers 754 and 755. Rick shares the uplifting and, at times heart-wrenching stories of these wolf families. How they love, cooperate, war, survive, live and even kill. What he demonstrates through these glorious animals is not only how close we are in behavior and how similar our "family" dynamics are, but the most successful packs were the families led by the most helpful and compassionate Alphas. You would think it would be the most aggressive or savage Alphas that dominated, but the wolves remind us that together, and with love, we can live longer, and our communities can thrive with that approach. #169 The Food Industry's Dirty Secrets Exposed: How Vani Hari, The Food Babe, Took on Chipotle & Other Multi-Billion Dollar Companies to Change the Game

My guest today is food advocate Vani Hari. In 2011, Vani accidentally found herself creating a food blog called 'The Food Babe.' With a background in computer science and a career in banking and securities Vani’s own health journey led her to take a hard look at our food companies and what they are putting in our boxes and bags.Remember when they asked Subway to take the chemical that's in yoga mats that makes it evenly airy and spongy out of their bread? That was Vani. She is in a role that she never chose to be in but is running with it in the most organized and potent way she can. An unintentional hero on my behalf, your behalf, and of the interest of our children's health. Why would the large food companies put better ingredients in products they make for the European market because it's required, and still not do the same for the very same food that they sell on our shelves? Vani not only asks these questions but follows up to see if they've made the changes which oftentimes they do not. Chipotle telling us exactly what's in their food? A move inspired by Vani and the Food Babe crew.A mother of two, wife, activist, and entrepreneur with her own food company Truvani.Enjoy!Timestamps: Vani and Scuba Diving [00:06:29] A Push to Health and Wellness [00:11:36] Creating a Food Blog [00:19:22] Taking Medications [00:21:27] Parental and Work Life [00:29:55] Making Food Companies Accountable [00:34:42] On Companies Using Artificial Food Ingredient [00:41:42] Handling Objections [00:47:09] Food Info [00:52:08] Food Hacks for Travelers [00:59:05] The Ingredient is Important [01:08:36] Connect with Vani:WEBSITE: www.foodbabe.comBOOKS:The Food Babe WayFood Babe KitchenFeeding You LiesOut soon.
