One Dark Night (1982) Review

One Dark Night (1982) synopsis: “As part of an initiation into a club called the Sisters, a young girl must spend the night in a mausoleum.”Starring: Meg Tilly, Robin Evans, Leslie Speights, and Melissa NewmanDirector: Tom McLoughlinIt took awhile but we’re finally getting to Zak’s much discussed PG horror movie, One Dark Night (1982)! As mentioned in the episode, we were supposed to review it last year closer to our review of The Car (which was Corey’s PG horror pick) but thanks to a post office snafu the package didn’t show up until almost a year later lol. Better late than never, right? That was Corey’s feelings about One Dark Night, a film he had never even heard of until Zak brought it to the show, but now he friggin loves it! And how could you not? It’s essentially a “What If?… Professor X was evil” horror story. Way ahead of its time and, we’re happy to report, still holds up well in 2021! If you haven’t seen One Dark Night we highly recommend watching it as soon as possible. It has an awesomely spooky vibe and makes for a great Halloween flick! As always, leave a message on Patreon or social media and let us know what you think of the episode!— SUPPORT PODCASTING AFTER DARK —PATREON - Two extra shows a month, including our celebrity interview series, plus videos and other exclusive content!MERCH STORE - We have a fully dedicated merch store at TeePublic with multiple designs and products!INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / LETTERBOXD - Follow us on social media for updates and announcements! This podcast is part of the BFOP Network

David Cronenberg's Shivers (1975) Review

The Shivers (1975) synopsis: “The residents of a suburban high-rise apartment building are being infected by a strain of parasites that turn them into mindless, sex-crazed fiends out to infect others by the slightest sexual contact.”Starring: Paul Hampton, Joe Silver, Lynn Lowry, and Allan KolmanDirector: David CronenbergHoly shiv! This week on Podcasting After Dark we are reviewing David Cronenberg’s first major motion picture, Shivers! This is the second part in co-host Corey’s series of movies he discovered during the 2020 quarantine (The Burning being the previous film). If you are a fan of David Cronenberg’s later work then you’re probably familiar with the themes he likes to explore: sex and body horror. If, on the other hand, this is your first foray into uncharted territory then brace yourself, we touch on a lot of taboo subjects as we break this movie down scene by scene. I mean, you have to. You can’t talk about Cronenberg without being a little taboo. Either way, we hope you enjoy the show!As always, leave a message on Patreon or social media and let us know what you think of the episode!— SUPPORT PODCASTING AFTER DARK —PATREON - Two extra shows a month, including our celebrity interview series, plus videos and other exclusive content!MERCH STORE - We have a fully dedicated merch store at TeePublic with multiple designs and products!REDDIT - Join our growing Subreddit community!INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / LETTERBOXD - Follow us on social media for updates and announcements! This podcast is part of the BFOP Network

The Wraith (1986) synopsis: “In a small town in Arizona, a mysterious man/spirit descends from the sky and manifests in a sports car and targets a local violent road-racing gang of motor heads, headed by a ruthless bully who'll do anything to get what he wants.”Starring: Charlie Sheen, Nick Cassavetes, Sherilyn Fenn, and Randy QuaidDirector: Mike MarvinThis week on a very special episode of Podcasting After Dark (said in the same tone as those infamous 80s sitcom episodes lol), Zak and Corey are joined by the co-host of Two Dollar Late Fee, Dustin Rubin, to review The Wraith! The Monster Squad (1987) Review

The Monster Squad (1987) synopsis: “A young group of monster fanatics attempt to save their hometown from Count Dracula and his monsters.”Starring: Andre Gower, Duncan Regehr, Ryan Lambert, and Tom NoonanDirector: Fred DekkerOur first Patreon-requested movie review! A huge THANK YOU to our pal, Crystal for suggesting we give The Monster Squad (1987) the full PAD treatment! The Monster Squad is very near and dear to both Zak and Corey’s hearts. In fact, they both pretty much have the same history with the film; it’s their Goonies! So, you can expect a lot of love for this cult kids movie, but the boys also call out some (very minor) plot problems and dated dialogue to help round out the review. The Monster Squad isn’t a perfect movie but it’s damn close! Thanks again to Crystal for having us review it :)Don’t forget to listen to our awesome interview with Tom Noonan on Patreon— SUPPORT PODCASTING AFTER DARK —PATREON - Two extra shows a month, including our celebrity interview series, plus videos and other exclusive content!MERCH STORE - We have a fully dedicated merch store at TeePublic with multiple designs and products!REDDIT - Join our growing Subreddit community!INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK - Follow us on social media for updates and announcements! This podcast is part of the BFOP Network

Welcome to the latest episode of the Podcasting After Dark Watchlist! This week, Corey talks to Dean Manness from the Talking Back podcast about their top five favorite pieces of sci-fi movie armor. The Burning (1981) Review

The Burning (1981) synopsis: “A former summer camp caretaker, horribly burned from a prank gone wrong, lurks around an upstate New York summer camp bent on killing the teenagers responsible for his disfigurement.”Starring: Brian Matthews, Leah Ayres, Fisher Stevens, and Jason AlexanderDirector: Tony Maylam (also Split Second 1992)Our sleaziest episode to date! Some may even call it a career killer, but not us! Sleaze just comes with the territory when you’re discussing a Weinstein production from the early 80s lol ;pCorey is showrunning this episode, but he doesn’t actually have any nostalgia for The Burning! This was a movie he discovered during 2020’s quarantine and instantly fell in love with it (because of the sleaze). Zak, on the other hand, does have a nostalgic love for The Burning (because of Tom Savini and the stellar cast of first timers, not the sleaze)! So, yea… there’s a healthy dose of raunchiness in this review but there’s also a lot of love for Cropsy’s standalone adventure. And there’s a young ‘George Costanza’ with hair in The Burning! Did we mention that? This movie is something truly special, and we hope so is this episode!
