Is our church keeping us from our God given full potential?

Is our church keeping us from our God given full potential? Other items we explore: Although I am trying to get certified as a trainer soon, I am still lacking enough education for me to feel like I can successfully work with clients. My dream is to open an organic/natural bakery with pastries, custom decorated cakes, and also maybe some organic cafe items. I’m wearing out in my current career, but I’ve decided to make the best of it for another 18 months when I qualify for a full retirement. I believe we can both get to a point where we can move into art and singing full time. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to monetize my passions. I love Bible and theology. “Doubts are the ants in the pants of faith. They keep it awake and moving.” – Frederick Buechner – Tweet This “You should do things a different wayBut about it, you tell them you’ll prayWill it be scoredAs advice from the LordOr putting it off till another day”   Poem by Cliff Feightner Show Notes: Episode – 06-02-17 Title: N/A Subtitle: N/A Summary: In this episode, Dan discusses the fine line between choosing the work you love and the work that pays you. I’m a Pastor and just got fired

I’m a Pastor and just got fired You might think there are still some jobs that are immune from firing, but I can’t think of any.  Last week I talked to a “tenured” professor who just got fired and pastors are being fired in droves.  Even the President is constantly under threat of hearing his own phrase, “You’re Fired.”  Your security is never in the job, but in knowing how your skills transfer to multiple organizations.  Other questions we discuss: How does one go through a career hunting process when they are very happy in their current career but are forced to make a change? How can I reinvent myself for a new career? Every job I see I don’t meet the qualifications since I am just a customer service rep. I recently got fired.  Should I find another job as a pastor, get my PhD or what? “When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson Tweet This “Is there a way to insureThat your job’s safe and secureAre you going to bendWith every trendAnd successfully go around each detour”   Poem by Cliff Feightner Show Notes Episode – 05-26-17 Title: N/A Subtitle: N/A Summary: In this episode, Dan reminds us that there’s no job that can provide the utmost certainty and security—no matter what industry or field. Finding your path as a high school student

Finding your path as a high school student  — Last week a listener asked if I were invited to give a university’s commencement address, what would I tell the graduates? This week another listener asked – what would you tell a junior or senior in high school who has yet to decide on a major? My suggestions include: allow yourself the freedom of exploration – follow your curiosity.  Find ways to make money – even if you don’t think you want to be an entrepreneur.  Shadow professionals who are doing work you think you might enjoy.  Other questions we explore this week: Is it now better to show I’m NOT working and focusing on improving myself? Recently, I earned my MBA in Management, and now find myself between a rock and a hard place. I have been finding that I am over-educated but lacking in work experience. How do I leave a job gracefully when I’ve only been here 7 months? Should I continue to stay at this miserable job while working my business on the side, look for a new job with potentially less favorable hours in the interim or go for my business full time? “I’m not where I want to be but I’m on the right path.”  Mark Ross — Tweet This  Show Notes: Episode – 05-19-17 Title: N/A Subtitle: N/ASummary:In this episode, Dan opens this week’s theme of finding your own path. There are countless reasons why people don’t get the jobs they apply for—this can include being overeducated or having gaps in a resumé. Dan also address students in universities who are just beginning their career journey. Apart from becoming unemployed, how do we encourage our young adults to pick a path that is right for them in the future? This week, Dan addresses these topics and gives us tips on how we can prepare ourselves for the job (and life) we’ve always wanted.Sponsored By:Casper Mattresses – Use the code SleepYouLove to get $50 off any purchase and free shippingFreshBooks is offering a 30 day, unrestricted free trial to my listeners. Don’t aim to be comfortable

Don’t aim to be comfortable You’ll never be your best if you just want to be comfortable.   Being comfortable can lead to complacency, laziness and mediocrity.  If you’re successful on 80% of the things you try, you’re not stretching enough to find where you are best.  You aren’t growing if you’re always successful.   Questions from this week’s Podcast: Are you in your Sweet Spot or your Comfort Zone? Should you leave a good paying job for one that serves a better cause? As Christians, we tithe on our personal incomes, but what about our business? I’m working 60-70 hours a week now.  How do I start something on the side? How can I position myself as a gardening coach? “Our greatest fear should not be of failure … but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.” – Francis Chan Tweet This Show Notes: Episode – 05-05-17 Title: N/A Subtitle: N/A Summary: In this episode, Dan Miller walks us through a number of success stories from our members as he opens this week’s theme: why you should not aim to be comfortable. Sometimes people forget that the reason they push forward is to achieve a goal—once they achieve that goal, the tendency is to stop and become complacent. In order to grow, one needs some resistance and change—it’s about setting yourself up for continuous learning. Tune in as Dan encourages listeners to look for that sweet spot, as opposed to living in one’s comfort zone. Sponsored By: FreshBooks is offering a 30 day, unrestricted free trial to my listeners. My life is not inspiring

You know you’re good – but it doesn’t seem that anyone cares.  Apparently excellence is not enough.  How can you inspire others so they rally to your cause and see you as a leader?  These seven traits can transform your success. This week’s questions: I surpassed my goal for 2016, we shot for $300K but did somewhere in the neighborhood of $550k in total sales. I’m a campus minister at a top 10 university, and it is not going well. I make very little yearly income by picking up 10 cent cans and have large gaps between traditional employment.  How should I handle this on a job application and/or resume I want to leave my job but don’t want to be selfish in anyway, my conscience tells me to not let people down. What makes a person inspiring and what can those of us who are not naturally inspiring do to grow in this area? “Hold fast to dreams, For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird, That cannot fly.”― Langston Hughes — Tweet This Show Notes: Episode – 04-28-17 Title: N/A Subtitle: N/A Summary: In this episode, Dan Miller opens with this week’s theme of “My life is not inspiring.” More often than not, people think they aren’t impacting others by what they do – they believe the monotonous tasks they do on a daily basis are not inspiring. Make people question your sanity

Make people question your sanity If everyone in your family and workplace commends you on how well you’re doing, maybe you’re not thinking big enough.  Big ideas and goals always attract criticism from small thinkers.  Don’t be afraid to step out with plans that make people think you’re crazy. Questions from this week’s Podcast: We’ve saved $200k and are debating between buying a house or quitting our unfulfilling jobs to travel for 6-12 months as an opportunity like this might not present itself again. What would be a good class or conference to attend to work on my leadership skills & personal growth? How do I deal with the guilt of not loving the job that brings my parents unfailing pride in their daughter? How do I let down my clients who have come to depend on me to take care of their loved ones? I have a desire to start a business to help with our family’s income and have several ideas.  This may seem ridiculous/silly, but I am fearful. “If people aren’t laughing at your dreams, your dreams aren’t big enough!” Robin Sharma — Tweet This Show Notes: Episode – 04-21-17 Title: N/A Subtitle: N/A Summary: In this episode, Dan Miller discusses the goal of making people question your sanity—the best way to do this—dream BIG! All We Need is Love

All We Need is Love People are not looking for more systems and processes. They’re looking for hope, encouragement, love, respect and transformation.  If you’re already providing those you are likely in a position to prosper financially as well.  I’ll be sharing some of what I’ve done and how you can step right into the path that fits you best. Questions we address on this week’s Podcast: My husband was laid off in the oil downturn and after two years of “getting by”, he is back out in the oil field. He is conflicted though. I have a business idea of a mobile RV washing and cleaning business. Any thoughts on a business like this? What questions do you ask when you get to talk to successful people at this stage in their life? Dan, please help me help your listeners who are salespeople that cold call businesses. Would I be crazy to leave an unfulfilling job making 5 figures after 25 years to work for a humanitarian organization that serves those in need in various countries? I feel like my brain and heart are drowning. I would love to know what you believe are the top three things a person can do to live the best life possible for them? Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”   — attributed to Mark Twain — Tweet This Episode – 04-14-17 Title: N/A Subtitle: N/A Summary: In this episode, Dan Miller discusses the recurring theme of, “All You Need is Love,” to the podcast. Does the world really need my contribution?

Does the world really need my contribution? If you have a talent for technology, art, music or brain surgery, does the world really care?  Is your contribution meaningful if twenty other people can do the same thing?  Let’s look at how to make yourself stand out in a world of sameness.   Should I move to a job that pays less and requires more hours but is a better fit? Does the world need my contribution? Should I give two weeks notice or just quit on payday? Am I being cold-hearted and unloving thinking that the homeless and/or poor should take some responsibility for their situation? With stretched finances, having 4 children under 12, should I follow the money or my passion? “The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread.”  — Mother Teresa  Tweet This Episode – 04-07-17 Title: N/A Subtitle: N/A Summary: In this episode, Dan talks about our contribution to the world and whether or not it really matters. “My passion doesn’t pay” – how to leverage what you love

I love ____________, but it doesn’t pay enough.  No, the issue is not that it doesn’t pay enough.  The issue is you need to be more creative in your thinking.  With an abundance mentality you can always find ways to generate extraordinary income – far beyond “industry standards.”   You inspired me to do my own thing after reading 48 days. I started buying wrecked BMW’s and Land Rovers and selling the parts on Ebay for extra money. In 2015, we sold 3.5 million dollars in parts on our website and on Ebay. I have a stable job but dread the 9-5 routine as well as sitting in a cubicle all day. I feel like I am working myself to death to advance a career that I hate. How can I make $105,000 as a financial coach? My question is what made you an expert at giving career advice to others when you first started? “There is no possession more valuable than a good and faithful friend.”–Socrates Tweet This Summary: In this episode, Dan Miller talks about leveraging your creativity and skills to be able to discover and do the work you love. He also shares how you can slowly work towards your dream even while continuing in your core career.
