You've likely never heard of Tamara Johnson, but after listening to this podcast, she'll be hard to forget. Tamara is a digital marketing specialist at ReminderMedia and she's as genuine and real as it gets. And we're super excited that she agreed to be on Stay Paid because she lays it all on the line so our listeners can finally believe and trust that failure is a part of the process. AND. IT'S. OKAY. Tamara shares her story of quitting her job, doing all the necessary research, getting the best advice, investing her entire life's savings, and putting every ounce of passion and determination she had into a business that went belly up in a highly public way. But Tamara wants you to be inspired by her story, even as she pulls no punches talking about living in a friend's basement, eating Ramen noodles, and swallowing her pride to chauffeur intoxicated people from bar to bar. Tamara also talks about the utter sense of failure she felt when she wasn't going to make it as an entrepreneur and would have to get a job … and how she finally got over herself. 168 - How to Use Predictive Index to Build a Team

In the movie, The Princess Bride, there is a scene in which the hero, the Dread Pirate Roberts, outwits another character named Vizzini and tricks him into drinking a cup of poison. During the battle of wits, Vizzini engages in a stunning display of deductive reasoning to decide which of the two cups he's offered contains the poison and to drink from the other. His mental gymnastics leaves the audience befuddled, the hero amused, and the poor Vizzini reduced to cheating … and dying. Answering behavioral assessment questions as part of an interview process can be a bit like Vizzini's experience when confronted with the cup of poison: Do I respond with what I really think? Do I respond with what they want me to think? Do I respond with what I think they want me to think? Or do they think that I'll think what they want me to think so I should really respond with what I think? Among behavior assessment tools for employees, the predictive index assessment solves this conundrum of second-guessing oneself. It asks test takers to select from a list of adjectives ones that describe the way others expect them to act. It also asks them to select from a second list of adjectives that describe them in their own opinion. The results are a remarkable set of data that accurately: 1. Describe an employee's behavioral profile or preferred way of communicating and interacting with others. 2. Suggest how they are likely to interact with employees who have different behavioral profiles. 3. Reveal the strengths and possible trouble spots associated with different profile combinations. In this episode of Stay Paid, Luke and Josh poke fun at themselves and each other as they discuss their own behavioral profiles and how they interact with each other. They also talk about how, for years, they've been using the PI behavioral assessment for sales. Spoiler alert: There are four profiles especially suitable for salespeople and, at ReminderMedia, there is a strong and definite correlation between our successful salespeople and their PI profile. Listen to the podcast to hear more details about the Predictive Index and the profiles it defines. Then, we invite you and your team to take a free PI assessment. It's fun, interesting, and you can walk away with a reliable indication of how different people on your team prefer to communicate and how they will interact with others. From there you can build on strengths, compensate for potential weaknesses, and fill in the gaps with needed differences. 167 - How to Create a Succession Plan for Your Practice with Jeff Evanello and Kris Kjolberg

You'd probably agree that new beginnings are typically exciting stuff. A new relationship, a new home, a new job, a new baby … they're all associated with energy, anticipation, and good feelings. On the other hand, few people—including 48% of business owners—don't like to think about endings, so they don't. And that means they don't plan for them, which makes it difficult to make rational and informed decisions when the time comes. But not planning for the eventual ending of your business—whether you sell it, leave it to someone, or close it—means you'll likely leave money on the table when it's time to turn over the keys or lock the door. In this episode, Kris Kjolberg and Jeff Evanello, whose expertise is in helping advisors acquire and sell their practices as well as in helping advisory firms build their teams, talk with Luke and Josh about the importance of developing an exit plan for your business. 166 - 6 Tips for Networking During Virtual Events

Virtual events and conferences have exploded in popularity since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, and there is no indication that the trend will reverse. There are, after all, a large number of benefits to meeting virtually, and any potential shortcomings either have been or will soon be circumvented by technologies like artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality. While many aspects of these events have seamlessly moved to an online existence, greeting someone with a handshake has not. Nor has getting a drink at the bar, or meeting up for dinner, or running into a new face at the refreshment station. These opportunities are the hallmark of networking at a conference, and they represent one of the biggest benefits of attending a conference in person ... meeting people. But there are still ways you can connect with people and carry a relationship forward without grabbing someone's palm. And in this episode of Stay Paid, Luke and Josh talk about six different ways you can network and still make new friends online who could benefit your business by providing help and referrals.
