#25: Peter Tzemis on Internet Marketing, Building Wealth, and the Freedom Lifestyle

Peter Tzemis (@petertzemis) (https://petertzemis.com/) is a digital copywriter and is also my cousin. At the time we recorded this episode we were living together for several weeks in Florida. We had so many great conversations and knew one had to be recorded. Digital copywriting is something that most people don’t understand and have no idea what that even means. The best way we found to describe is “digital Don Draper”. The same way there are ads on TV and in magazines, there are ads online and you’ve certainly seen them. Well, someone writes those ads, and that’s what Peter does. We spoke about how Peter got into this world and tried to describe it as best we could. It’s not all scams and people trying to steal your money. Sure, that exists, as it does in every industry ever. Ad writing is important. It’s how people find out about good products and services. It’s just that there’s a dark side to it that each of us has to steer clear from. This line of work – and the internet as a whole – allows one to work and live nearly anywhere in the world. You no longer need to be stuffed in a tiny condo in a busy city. You can live in a big house in the country, an ocean front apartment, or anywhere else you’d like to live. And this is where the freedom lifestyle comes in. Being able to make money and create wealth to be able to live the life you want. Is this really different from fitness? I say no. You’ve got to put in the work, analyze what you’re doing, and be consistent and good at what you do. We reeled everything in to relate it to fitness as usual, and I think this is a perfect example of how lessons learned in the gym and transferrable to all aspects of our life. We definitely fed off each other’s energy in this conversation, maybe swore a little too much and got a bit ahead of ourselves at times but we reigned it back in and brought it back to Earth when appropriate. There’s a lot to learn in this conversation, and we’re both still learning ourselves. If you have further questions or would like to contact Peter, the best place is through his website https://petertzemis.com/. I would greatly appreciate any comments, questions or feedback. If you could share this with a friend, that would mean the world to me. If you enjoy this podcast, I would be extremely grateful if you subscribed and left a short review on iTunes. #24: Stephen Campolo on Losing 100lbs, Transforming his Life, and Coaching Others to do the Same

Stephen Campolo (@stephencampolo) is a transformation coach with an incredible story. After being fed up with being scared to take his shirt off in the pool at his own birthday parties as a teenager, he knew he had to make a change. This led Stephen down the path of fitness and nutrition which ultimately helped him lose (and keep off) over 100lbs. And now it's his mission to help others do the same. Stephen has worked with thousands of clients around the world to help them transform their bodies, and thus transform their lives. We spoke a lot about how the physical changes that happen with diet and exercise are amazing, but they're secondary to all of the non-physical changes that will happen as well. We spoke about the importance of nutrition and some of the basic principals that one must follow. We also broke down some of the common language that's used online that's not necessarily a lie, but not the whole truth. You can't eat whatever you want and have the body of your dreams. Everything in moderation and there's got to be some sacrifice. It doesn't have to control your life, but you do have to manage it. And this is exactly what Stephen does, is help clients find that balance. Stephen is also releasing a book titled The 77 Laws of Six Pack Abs that outlines ALL of the factors that go into building that dream body. Not 1 or 2 gimmicky tricks, but it covers every angle you might need to cover to have those 6 pack abs you've been working towards. The book will be available in September. Follow Stephen on IG @stephencampolo for continued updates on the release of the book and if you're looking to transform your body and your life. I would greatly appreciate any comments, questions or feedback. If you could share this with a friend, that would mean the world to me. If you enjoy this podcast, I would be extremely grateful if you subscribed and left a short review on iTunes. #21: Jesse Hy of Float Toronto on Floating/Sensory Deprivation, Connecting with Nature to Lead a Healthy Life, and More!

Jesse Hy is the co-founder of Float Toronto (@float_toronto) (https://float-toronto.com/) Originally from Vancouver, he and his business partner were introduced to sensory deprivation tanks, or float tanks. They dove in head first, enjoyed it first as consumers and as they learned more, decided to move to Toronto and open their own center in 2014. Floating is a tricky experience to explain, because it’s truly like no other. You lay in a large tank filled with a few inches of warm water that is loaded with Epsom salt. So much salt that you easily float on the surface of the water. The tank closes and there is no sense of weight, no sound, no sight (you can choose to keep the lights on if you please, but the fullest experience is with the lights off), and barely any sense of feeling. The water is heated to a temperature similar to our bodies temperature, such that when you’re in it, you lose sense of where your body ends. The idea of the tank is to remove all sensory input – an environment we can’t really experience anywhere else. There are innumerable physical, emotional, and psychological benefits to floating. The heavy concentration of magnesium in the salt is excellent for nearly all cellular functions in our body. It’s great for helping with muscle soreness, aches and pains. As well as the weightlessness is great for pressure relief. Being in the tank allows for the opportunity for quite a deep meditative state. With no sensory distractions, it’s just you and your thoughts. And you can take that as deep as you’d like. Jesse does a far better job explaining what floating is, why it’s useful, and the best practices to have the best experience possible in the tank. We also spoke about the importance of holistic living especially through drinking fresh spring water. The link to the find a spring program Jesse mentioned can be found here or on IG. Float Toronto is located near Queen and Dufferin at (address) in Toronto. Jesse also named several other Float centers in the GTA. But nearly any city you live in will have a float center, and both Jesse and I highly recommend you check it out!You can follow Float Toronto on IG, and check out their website to book a float.  I would greatly appreciate any comments, questions or feedback. Karla Leong (@karlameagan) is an athletic therapist treating out of Eikonic Health (@eikonichealth) (https://www.eikonichealth.ca/) in Woodbridge, Ontario. Karla treated me during my knee surgeries and is the best manual therapist I've ever met. She changed and shaped the way I think about health, fitness, and as an extension, life overall. Karla takes a very holistic approach to fitness and injury rehabilitation. It's not just about putting band-aids on injuries, but moreso about how to return to play, or life, BETTER than before. In the episode we spoke about Karla's general approach to treating injuries and how the overall approach is the same for athletes as well as the general population. We explored the concept of exercise as a great way to have "me" time and how it helps you be the best version of yourself, so that you can give the most of yourself to everyone around you. Anthony Barsby (@anthony.barsby) is a Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) and Registered Kinesiologist (R.Kin) and is the Director of Human Performance at Deer Fields Clinic (https://www.deerfields.ca/)(@deerfields_clinic) in Toronto, Canada. Anthony and I went to school together at York University and studied under Dr. Veronica Jamnik during our undergrad degrees in kinesiology. Anthony went on to take over the role of Director of Human Performance at Deer Fields clinic, which is a private interdisciplinary medical center where the aim is help patients "take control of their health in order to live happier, healthier, longer lives". With a wealth of experience in his own fitness and working in the clinic Anthony and I spent a long while discussing many aspects of health and fitness. The most difficult part of helping people improve their health is behaviour change, and we discussed how to approach this both as a practitioner/coach, as well as how you can approach this for yourself. Anthony gave an excellent description of the difference between motivation and inspiration, and how we can all work to become more inspired to improve our health, or do anything else in life. We also got into some of the nuts and bolts of health: the crucial importance of sleep, some thoughts on time-restricted eating, exercise programming, cardio and weightlifting, the need for some healthy competition in fitness and so much more. #16: Richard Bucciarelli on Real HIIT Training, Undertrained Athletes, Doing the Basic Things Well, and More!

Richard Bucciarelli (@richardbucciarelli) is the owner of Speed Training (https://speedtraining.ca/) (@speedtraining.ca) He's a sports scientist, strength and conditioning coach, university professor, PhD candidate, and most importantly a husband and father. After graduating from York University Richard began coaching soccer to youth athletes (I was one of them!) and quickly realized that there was a gap in the soccer world where nobody was focusing on actually developing better athletes with any degree of expertise. Richard set out to fill this gap, and eventually Speed Training was born. Richard set out to be the best in the field, gathering as much knowledge and experience as possible. Innovating and utilizing new technologies like high speed treadmills to build better athletes in ways not many people are doing. Initially he was solely focused on soccer players, but eventually realized that athletes of all sports could benefit from his training methods. Richard utilizes specific HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) protocols with his athletes. And not just 30s of jumping jacks - but real, near and even supra maximal speed training. This of course is just one piece of the puzzle along with an athletes strength work and technical work related to their sport, but something necessary nonetheless. Another area of interest was the concept of overtraining athletes, or the myth of overtrained athletes. Not that overtraining doesn't exist, just that most of what we call overtraining, is in reality, undertraining. This may sound like a foreign concept, but the literature shows it to be true. Many of these concepts sound very specific to athletes, but as always we bring it all together and take the lessons from high performance to people like you and I. If you live in Toronto or the GTA, you can train with Richard at his facility which you can find more info about at https://speedtraining.ca/. Speed Training is also on IG @speedtraining.ca as well as on Youtube. Check out all they have to offer on all this performance, fitness and health! I would greatly appreciate any comments, questions or feedback. If you could share this with a friend, that would mean the world to me. If you enjoy this podcast, I would be extremely grateful if you subscribed and left a short review on iTunes. It really helps to spread the message and ultimately help more people.  Connect with me on Instagram @danielyoresConnect with me on Twitter @danielyores Podcast Cover Art by @octopuslegss
