(82) How Leaders Avoid The Planning Fallacy

The planning fallacy – when you underestimate how long an activity or task will take – can be detrimental to both your productivity and your wellbeing. It can cause you to feel stressed as tasks pile up and are behind in your work. The number one way to avoid the planning fallacy and that almost all leaders do is to track how long you spend on different tasks. This will help you to gain clarity on how long these tasks actually take and help you to plan more accurately.Anticipate both the best and the worse type scenario – allow some room in your schedule if the task takes longer than you hope it will. Ask an external person to give you their input on your schedule – this will help you to see if it is realistic or if you have drastically underestimated how long it will take. Talking about it out loud can also be useful. The planning fallacy only occurs because we are overly optimistic, and we don’t use previous data to help us schedule in a more realistic way. By regularly tracking and reviewing your activities, will make a great impact on your scheduling and planning! VIDEO of this episode:YouTube VideoABOUT Katie Stoddart:Katie Stoddart is an award-winning, international, high-performance coach. (80) Create a Regular Meditation Practice

Meditation has been such a powerful and transformative experience for me, that I feel it is essential to share it with you! So many incredible benefits come from having a regular meditation practice! The greatest benefit is the extra mental space you obtain. Thanks to this extra mental space, you can better manage your emotions, improve your relationships, and be more focused and efficient! By bringing your awareness back to your breath, you improve your meta-attention: the awareness you have about how you pay attention. This meta-attention is a superpower! Thanks to it, you can better understand your own patterns of thought, emotions and behaviour. To build a meditation practice, you only need to find a good time slot (even of 5 minutes to begin with!) and spend that time focusing on your breath. Every time you have a thought, you come back to your breath. Meditation is simple but not easy. You can do this with/without music/app. Having meditated for years, I can honestly say that it has been the most transformational tool in my life. It has helped me through challenging emotional times, to manage my business, to better understand others and my clients, to understand my own triggers etc. The list goes on! I have seen similar results with all the people I know who regularly meditate! I wish you a wonderful journey with your own meditation practice! Mentioned in this episode:Insight TimerVIDEO of this episode:YouTube VideoABOUT Katie Stoddart:Katie Stoddart is an award-winning, international, high-performance coach. (78) The Power of Daily 1% Improvement

We are often attracted by great goals and less by ongoing improvement. It feels more satisfying to have huge ambitions than to gradually improve every day. Yet, there is a reason why we often fail with New Year Resolutions. Big goals don’t work without a daily systematic process. You can call this habits or improvement. Daily 1% is more powerful over the course of time than big ambitions. Some ways of putting this in place are to: track your progress, increase time/quality/awareness or other factors in a specific area you are working on. By improving by 1% every day, leads to be 37 times better in any given area. Daily improvement helps with enjoying the process, consistency, and perseverance. Some examples could be exercise, meditation or business-related. The concept is similar: build small habits (even starting with 2 min.) and gradually improve them. Daily improvement has contributed to so much joy and growth in my own life & business and of my clients. It is astounding to see how habits compound to produce fantastic results! VIDEO of this episode:YouTube VideoABOUT Katie Stoddart:Katie Stoddart is an award-winning, international, high-performance coach. (74) How to Transform Your Life and Your Business

When we hear the word transformation and are attracted to it, it means that there is something we are dissatisfied with. If you are looking for transformation, think about what aspect do you want to change or transform in your life? It is more effective to work on one area at a time than to transform everything in one go!Visualise what ideal would look like in this area of your life. Be very clear about what you want to obtain. Reflect on what is holding you back. Why are you still where you are in this area? Most of the time, there is a correlation with our comfort zone. Old patterns are comfortable (maybe unpleasant but comfortable because we are used to them!)Noticing the fears that come up – is natural as leaving our comfort zone always entails some fears. Beliefs are a key part of transformational work as they dictate the way we think and act. Our thoughts impact our actions. Our actions turn into results. Transformation begins with how we master our thoughts and emotions. A great pillar of transformation is identity. We have a preconceived view of who we are as a person and it can be challenging to change their perception. To define a new identity for ourselves, we can begin by first stepping into the shoes of this new identity. Imagining: ‘what would a healthy person do?’ or ‘how would a successful business owner think and act?’ (depending on which area you are working on). This will change your identity one step at a time. A virtuous circle takes place: internal work – outside results – confirmation of internal work – better outside results. We always seek strategies and methods to transform our lives, when in fact, it all lies in our mind and how we deal with our thoughts and emotions. Essential tools for such transformation include: journaling, meditation, work with a coach/therapist. Transformation is deep inner work that can take place over weeks, months or years. It is important to appreciate each part of the journey and not to be hooked on the results as it is a journey filled with ups and downs. Gradually though, through perseverance and consistency, you will be able to see the fruits of your efforts and notice how much you have indeed transformed!VIDEO of this episode:YouTube VideoABOUT Katie Stoddart:Katie Stoddart is an award-winning, international, high-performance coach.
