31: Sparking Learning Enablement Pt 2 - Liv Wilson and Kerry Peguero

Over the past two years Spark NZ has embarked on an ambitious transformation of learning in order to build a ‘culture of performance.’ . Their goal has been to ‘democratise knowledge’ and create a self-sustaining performance ecosystem. This is Part 2 of our discussion with Kerry Peguero and Liv Wilson from the Learning Enablement Team about their innovative approach. In Part 1 (Episode 30) we covered user-generated content and the use of an ‘orienteering’ approach to induction that builds self-directed learning behaviours. We recommend you listen to Part 1 first. Here in Part 2 we pull the strategy together by looking at their performance-focussed accreditation program and the technology platform they developed in-house because there wasn’t an LMS on the market that could meet their needs. We also delve into the mindset shift that the learning team has made. Listen to both episodes to get the full picture of this contemporary approach that is shifting how learning happens and the role of learning professionals in the organisation.   Hosts: Karen Moloney & Michelle Ockers Transcript and related resources:  https://learninguncut.global/podcast/31/ Podcast information and more episodes: https://learninguncut.global/podcast/ Emergent: Podcast information and more episodes:  https://learninguncut.global/podcast/?podcast_series=emergent-series

Do you delete those boring broadcast emails from IT about software upgrades and intranet changes without reading them?  This was the challenge faced by the ICT team at University of Southern Queensland.  Inspired by entertaining 6 second ‘Vines,’ Sandra Lammas had the idea to create short attention-grabbing videos and weave in important information.  As she puts it “they come for the entertainment, but they leave with the message.”  Sandra has been making and distributing these sub-120 second videos every week for four years.  She reassures us that it’s okay to be funny, even when the topic is serious.  This episode is jam-packed with practical tips on making videos, monitoring engagement and keeping it fresh.  Be sure to watch some of the Talk Nerdy videos linked in the shownotes and check out the detailed ‘how-to- resources that Sandra has provided.  Hosts: Karen Moloney & Michelle Ockers Transcript and related resources: https://learninguncut.global/podcast/26/ Podcast information and more episodes: https://learninguncut.global/podcast/ Emergent: Podcast information and more episodes:  https://learninguncut.global/podcast/?podcast_series=emergent-series

Being the CEO of any startup comes with many challenges. But when you have a two-week startup timeframe, a new, geographically dispersed and fast-growing team with a lack of managerial skills, no processes and groups of displaced people and their new communities to support, the word “challenge” takes on a whole new meaning. In this episode, CEO David Keegan talks about how he steered Host International through its first couple of years using a group coaching approach to shape the organisational culture and empower his employees to make decisions and grow into a powerful, effective leadership team. 23: Creating a Rock Star L&D Brand – Alexandra Lederer

Ovolo Hotels are a hospitality group who like to do things differently. As they embarked on a period of rapid growth they saw the need to create an L&D function and onboarded an L&D Manager.  Alexandra Lederer joined the business with no department, no team and no experience in hospitality. But what she did have was a background in marketing.  Challenged to be innovative whilst aligning the L&D function with the out-of-the-box Ovolo approach to business, Alex pushed through her comfort zone and created a brand and culture of learning for the business which is most definitely F.U.N. – Fun, Unconventional, Never boring.  Hosts: Michelle Ockers & Karen Moloney Transcript and related resources: https://learninguncut.global/podcast/23/ Podcast information and more episodes: https://learninguncut.global/podcast/
