Degrees of Health
We exist to connect the dots across health disciplines, and to share information that gives you the agency to change the trajectory of your own health journey - wherever you are at. The health industry is siloed, confusing and means we're often in the back seat, with little to no belief in our autonomy to improve our health status. We're here to change that and to highlight the ways that you can too.Subscribe on YouTubeListen on SpotifyListen on Apple Music Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Dr Thomas Seager, PhD | The Metabolic Theory of Cancer: Mitochondrial Defects, Cold Water and Ketosis
Thomas Seager joins us again for a conversation challenging the conventional understanding of cancer. Thomas argues that the war on cancer, launched over 50 years ago, has failed to make significant strides in combatting the disease due to a fundamental misunderstanding of its origins. With scientific clarity, Dr. Seager explains:🔬the theory of cancer as a metabolic disease, beginning with defects in mitochondrial DNA, rather than the previously believed nuclear DNA🍯 how glucose metabolism plays a crucial role in cancer growth💧 ketosis and cold exposure therapies in inhibiting tumour growth🏆 inspiring case studies using cold water to combat cancer (see episode with Dean Hall)⚠️ the limitations of traditional cancer treatments (chemotherapy and radiation) and the need for more research and openness towards alternative and/or adjunct therapies focused on metabolic health, mitochondrial function, and lifestyle choices. If you know of someone with cancer at the moment, share this with them. Or better yet, read the papers and books mentioned below and entertain the possibility that there may be additional things you can do to revolutionise their cancer care and improve the prognosis for a loved one. Dr Gabrielle Fundaro, PhD | Body Image Disturbance - Self-Worth, Self-Trust and Freedom with Food
Dr Gabrielle Fundaro, PhD, is educated in several areas of academia including human physiology in exercise and sport, skeletal muscle and hyper trophy, microbiome and metabolism, and gut health. More recently, Gabrielle has aggregated this knowledge and turned her focus to dismantling diet culture and weight stigma through nutritional coaching. Gabrielle supports her clients to build confidence outside of our external physique and synergise self-awareness with nutritional knowledge - all with great compassion having had her own years with body image disturbance and a misplaced definition of 'healthy'.This episode covers:•Unlearning the diet narrative, weight stigma and ‘smallness=healthier’ in the female physique•Body image disturbance and disordered eating masquerading as ‘health’•Self-worth, self-trust and freedom with food•Hunger training and habituation - are we eating for satiety and satisfaction, or something else?•Interoceptive sensitivity and awareness - learning to trust internal cues again with RPE eating cyclesThis episode is for you if you have ever felt like:you have a very considered, careful, analytical, fearful, strict or restrictive relationship with food and or your bodyyour self-worth is based on your weight or physique Having spent some time with Gabrielle, I wish I had met her when I had needed guidance with body image disturbance and disordered eating. I believed I was stuck in that loop for all eternity but thoughts equally tormented me that if I didn't change something, I'd live only a half life. The journey was lonely, uncertain and very bumpy. Now, I have so much freedom and confidence in what I can achieve with my body when I take care of it properly, but I wish I'd had someone like Gabrielle around offering a safe, personal and considered space to support the process. If you find yourself reading this thinking - it will never change, I'm stuck like this, or even maybe you see a way out but don't know if you really want to change it because you're scared of possible weight gain and food freedom (we see you), please get in touch with Gabrielle - it could just be the best health decision you ever make.Find Gabrielle:Link TreeInstagramNew Podcast - Salto De Fe.
