MMP141: Convo with a Mastermind Couple Part 1: What if you know your child needs something different than what you’re doing?

When parents turn to their pediatrician as the first resource when noticing their child seems more difficult than the ‘neighbor’s’ little Johnny or Sally, we are often given a therapist recommendation before a parenting program. This month’s episodes consist of a 2 part conversation with a couple where two out of three of their children are strong-willed. I invited them on for a number of reasons. First of all, because I absolutely love them and think you’ll relate with their story. Secondly, they happen to be child development professionals who understand the “professional gap” I’ve been referring to lately...the gap when it comes to helping our most challenging kids in terms of professional support. My belief is that a therapist, specialized pediatrician, neurologist or other child development professional is often a critical component in figuring out how to support our strong-willed ones. AND, the parenting piece involving better communication tools, is the first resource and biggest factor in changing the climate in your family. My goal for this episode is realizing that you’re not alone and that even the child development “experts” struggle with the same issues you’ve been dealing with in your home. If you’re looking to turn things around like this couple has, the VIP program they did with us can be found at the link  http://mastermindparenting.com/vipaccess Thanks for listening! Bonus Episode - Judging, losing, civilized behavior and talking to kids about toxic events

Oh how we love to judge. I think it’s the secret most common addiction. Judging is the thing that can provide immediate relief to deep rooted self loathing. We’re always scanning the environment for someone who’s f%@king up just a little more than we feel we are deep down. AND...it’s toxic. Toxic to your health and well being and sense of self. And since all change begins with awareness, simply notice when you judge others (we all do it by the way). If you need guidance on how to have tough conversations with your kiddo, get the support you need here: http://mastermindparenting.com/vipaccess And ask yourself this question when you notice: What am I truly judging myself about? MMP140: The Strong-Willed Child Gap - Part 2 with Amanda & Randi

On the podcast this week, it’s part 2 of my conversation with pediatric occupational therapist, Mastermind Mentor and “kid whisperer”, Amanda Perches. Today we go deeper into what’s really going on with our strong-willed kids and why simply disciplining “misbehaviors” will not be a long term solution. We have to investigate and uncover the root of the problem. Amanda is a wealth of child development and sensitive nervous system knowledge and a champion when it comes to understanding and working with challenging kids. Send questions or comments for future episodes with Amanda to info@mastermindparenting.com.    Ready to have a joyful holiday season? MMP139: The Strong-Willed Child Gap - Part 1 with Amanda & Randi

This month on the podcast, we’re continuing our conversation about the gaps I see that are impeding “mental wellness” in families with a strong-willed child. I sat down with Mastermind Mentor, occupational therapist and “kid whisperer”, Amanda Perches. We had a very candid discussion about the frustrating path that many families go down seeking resources to help their struggling kids...and the solutions that’ll finally help our often hardest to reach kiddos.  Ready to have a joyful holiday season? MMP138: The REAL recipe to help struggling kids

Today’s episode is a continuation of episode 137 and  the 3 gaps at the heart of the challenging child dilemma. The Mastermind Parenting recipe involves 3 main components - Leadership, Communication and Mind Mastery, otherwise known as raising consciousness. I delve into each of these topics and apply them to the three gaps - The Parent Gap, The Challenging Child Gap and The Professional Gap.  If you’re ready to go deeper with us and truly help your struggling child, please reach out and book a call with the Mastermind Parenting team. mastermindparenting.com/call Ready to have a joyful holiday season? MMP137: How we are failing our kids…especially our strong-willed ones

Today I’m discussing why I think we are failing our struggling kids. Kids that act out and “are not doing well”, are in pain. I see it as three gaps we need to close to help these kids and frankly, all kids. I define these three gaps as:  The Parent Gap - The gap between the parent you wanna be and the reactive parent you are during triggering moments with your kids. This often looks like yelling, shaming and ultimately adding to the problem.  The Challenging Child Gap - All behavior is communication. Behavior is a symptom, not the root of the problem. These challenging kids need the adults caring for them, to get curious and uncover the root of the behavior. The child is always trying to have a need met and most often would benefit from additional time spent skill building rather than using shame and punishment as ineffective motivation tactics to improve behavior.   The Professional Gap - I believe that folks that choose a career in child development are generally the good guys - teachers, pediatricians, child therapists. HOWEVER, not all professionals are doing their own consciousness work. Many are still educated with old school methodology and promote pills before skills rather than working closely with parents to uncover the roots of the behavioral problems.  There is a big communication gap between parents and child professionals. The solution for your kid is never going to come from merely sending them to a pediatric professional for an hour a week without making significant changes at home. Period.  The solution to solving the “challenging child puzzle”  involves closing these three gaps so that our often hardest to reach kids can grow into the absolute best versions of themselves. This will be our focus this season on the podcast.  Ready to have a joyful holiday season? On the podcast this week I have part 2 with fellow coach, Amy Pearson. We discuss that feeling of being stuck and figuring out what “you wanna be when you grow up”. MMP135: ⅓ Rule with Amy Pearson Part 1

This week on the podcast, I “sat” down with my friend and fellow coach, Amy Pearson, to discuss finding “your peeps”.  Both Amy and I strive to live a life that feels connected, purpose driven and good in our bodies. I think that more of us than we realize, are living a life that doesn’t feel great. You can be surrounded by people, have a full or “busy” schedule and social calendar and still feel a sense of “stuckness”. Amy and I candidly discuss all these issues and more. I LOVE her ⅓ rule and I can’t wait for you to learn it straight from the source. Warning: You may listen to this episode and have some real aha’s about the people you’ve chosen to “sit next” to. As “they” say, it’s important to take stock of the people you surround yourself with and notice whether it’s a relationship meant for a reason, a season or a lifetime.  To access Amy Pearson’s  personality assessment, “The Approval Quiz”, Click here.
