“Reparenting is the act of giving yourself what you didn’t receive as a child.” -Dr. Nicole Lapera, The Holistic Psychologist In this month’s podcasts, I’m talking about the process of reparenting ourselves while parenting our kids. I dig into all that I’m learning from Dr. Nicole Lapera’s new book, How To Do The Work, and what she teaches about this topic of reparenting ourselves so that we can change habits not serving us. MMP146: Keep Tech in Check Part 2: Convo between Randi and Mom, Anne
On the 2nd podcast during our tech themed convos month, I coach Mastermind mom, Anne, on her concerns about her 8-year old son’s video gaming. She felt guilty about the hours he was spending on his game because it was a convenient way to keep him occupied while she got her work done...I think many of us can relate to feeling guilty that we’ve used screens at one time or another as an electronic babysitter for our kids. I know I can. We talk about guilt and why we tend to put our heads in the sand and not deal when we feel like we’re being lazy parents. I role play with her the productive conversation around establishing boundaries and consequences to regain technology balance in her home. I think you guys will find the episode extremely practical and relatable. Enjoy! MMP145: Keep Tech in Check Part 1: Convo between Randi and Mom, Tara
This month I’m featuring two conversations with Mastermind moms and the theme is around technology. You’ll hear a clip of me and advanced student/member, Tara, discussing pandemic virtual school and what’s really happening when we “lift the hood” of her brain regarding her kids being online from 8am until 3pm each day. Of course, we go into other topics because I know Tara very well and as an “advanced member” in the MMP Mastermind, she participates in all of our advanced programs which go way beyond parenting and into the personal development realm. We touch on perfectionism, kid comparison, vulnerability, our own worthiness story, boundaries and apologizing. I love this conversation and decided to include it on the podcast because it’s more than tips and tools to reign in the tech in your kids’ lives. Ya know...right now we’re all doing the best we can. We know too much tech is not ideal for brain development. We know we shouldn’t let them rot in front of screens for hours on end. And yet...somedays it’s just freaking necessary. Maybe it’s necessary b/c of school and maybe it’s necessary for our sanity. We are all struggling with this right now and I think hearing the REAL deal from each other and realizing we aren’t the only ones is the most helpful “tip” I can give you right now. AND...of course you’ll get plenty of tips woven into our convo. Enjoy! MMP144: Convo with a Mastermind Couple: Parenting on the Same Page Part 2
On part 2 of the podcast convo with Seth and Sarah, we go into vulnerability when it comes to learning a new skill like cooking or parenting and putting yourself out there in the “arena” as Brene’ Brown says. We go a little more in depth on male privilege, old school parenting and my theory on why many dudes don’t help more with their kids. I think much of the perceived male laziness is actually connected to vulnerability and disconnection. You’ll hear us discuss how Sarah was taking it all on as a type A perfectionist and what got Seth to step up to the plate and begin making dinner on weeknights and how they are working together more as co-parents when it comes to the feeding, bathing and evening grind. Seth also shares his insights about how leaning into new parenting tools is helping him to live without regret. They touch on how parenting on the same page is strengthening their marriage as they prepare for baby number 3 and then we end with a little coaching on badgering and when kids hijack and ruin a family outing. If you’re ready to get on the same parenting page like Seth and Sarah, go check out our new VIP program involving lots of 1:1 support and handholding. http://mastermindparenting.com/vipaccess Thanks for listening! MMP143: Convo with a Mastermind Couple: Parenting on the Same Page Part 1
Years ago, Scott and I had an ongoing “convo”/argument about whether we should have a third kid. It went on for about a year and it was a stressful time in our relationship. Scott’s position was that we had a boy and a girl and we were done with diapers and baby bootcamp. He literally couldn’t wrap his head around “why” I would screw up the light at the end of the tunnel he could almost see in the distance. Sooo, when Seth and Sarah began to engage in the same “convo” and turned to me for support, understandably, it felt like major dejavu’! This month on the podcast, you’ll hear a 2 part episode with me, Seth and Sarah discussing this and much more, with some coaching sprinkled throughout. You are going to absolutely love them. They’re REAL, smart, honest, vulnerable and I think many of you will relate and hopefully realize that learning to parent on the same page has the ability to strengthen your marriage and self awareness. Growing together and experiencing a level of deep connection with our partners is not commonplace unfortunately . We CAN disagree, have hard conversations with the people we love AND come together as a cohesive couple. I. Just. Love. This. Episode. You will too! MMP142: Convo with a Mastermind Couple Part 2
On this episode, our inaugural VIP Mastermind Couple, Brian and Carley, reveal a little more about their professional lives as a pediatrician and a physical therapist and the resources that have helped them the most as parents. When parents first begin learning Mastermind Parenting, we focus on the quick wins regarding bedtime and basic needs to reduce overwhelm and build momentum. And eventually, the plateau happens, similar to a weightloss journey, as Brian describes. Amanda, our Mastermind Mentor and therapist chimes in on why she’s sick and tired of doing meltdown webinars and the real root cause of meltdowns and the solution. This conversation will leave you feeling like a fly on the personal wall of doctors, therapists and child development professionals and how they discuss strong willed kid topics behind the scenes. If you’re looking to turn things around like this couple has, the VIP program they did with us can be found at the link http://mastermindparenting.com/vipaccess Thanks for listening!
