Demystifying Medicinal Cannabis, CBD Oil & THC with Professor Kylie O'Brien.

#107 My lovely guest this week is Professor Kylie O'Brien, an expert in Chinese medicine, integrative medicine & medicinal cannabis. I've been wanting to get the facts straight around CBD oil, THC oil and medicinal cannabis for quite some time, so I invited Kylie onto my show. We discuss the many benefits, the concerns and where the law stands right now and what the future holds around this fascinating topic. We keep the technical jargon to a minimum where possible, and this is a podcast for everyone if you want to know more about this incredible plant. Enjoy. Some of the questions we covered on the show: What is cannabis? How does it differ from marijuana? What sort of conditions do people seek to use cannabis for? Is there any scientific evidence that it works? How does cannabis work? What's the difference between CBD & THC? Is it safe? Can we over-use CBD oil and THC oil? Are there any examples/case studies where people were using conventional medication and then moved to Med Cannabis? What are our laws around cannabis use? What are other countries doing with respect to cannabis? How do people get access to it in Australia? What have you been doing in educating doctors about medicinal cannabis? :) About Kylie O'Brien: Kylie O'Brien has had a strong academic career in the fields of Chinese medicine, integrative medicine and now medicinal cannabis since career changing in 2000. She has worked for the Victorian Department of Human Services, and held senior leadership roles in the university and private education sector. She is an internationally recognised expert in Chinese medicine and integrative medicine, and has published extensively including a first book on integrative oncology (US: Springer, 2017) and a second one on mental health and medicinal cannabis due for publication in 2020. DMT; The Spirit Molecule Movie. 10 Years On with Mitch Schultz.

#105 My awesome guest this week is filmmaker and director Mitch Schultz, the man behind the cult classic documentary: DMT; The Spirit Molecule. I remember watching this movie when it came out, and it literally blew my mind! And with the ten year anniversary coming up of the film, it was fantastic to have Mitch on the show. Naturally, we dive into this topic, and why Mitch made this film... but here are a few random facts about DMT: - DMT (N,N-Dimethyltryptamine) is a hallucinogenic tryptamine drug that occurs naturally in many plants and animals. It is also referred to as the "spirit molecule" due to the intense psychedelic experience. - DMT has been used as a drug for thousands of years. - Use of the drug as part of shamanic ritual is common in South America. - Side effects include powerful hallucinations. - Due to the nature of the drug, DMT is known as the "spirit molecule." So strap in and enjoy this conversation with me and Mitch :) About Mitch Schultz: Mitch Schultz' curiosity of the unknown universe forged his path in storytelling. With over 20 years of creative experience as a transmedia producer, experience designer, and educator, Mitch's work explores the inherent connections among consciousness, nature, culture, and the evolving human mythology. In the early '90s, the confluence of art, information, and technology became the perfect storm for the germination of ideas that continue to inspire Mitch today. His academic research ('95-'03) at UT Austin and New York University focused on communication theory, information technology, and media production. During his education, Mitch mentored with Visionary Producer, Tommy Pallotta, on films (Waking Life), music videos (Destiny, In the Waiting Line), and interactive sci-fi mystery (Amnesia Moon). In 2003, Mitch launched Spectral Alchemy as a creative interface for his work and continued to develop his skills over the next decade- indie/studio development, broadcast, interactive design, and commercial production. In 2009, Mitch decided to focus exclusively on his personal creative vision. As a result, his first documentary, DMT: The Spirit Molecule, premiered two years later and became an instant cult classic. The DMTRMX project- an open source media library and emergent storyworld- became the inspiration for MYTHAPHI. What 16 Years In A Thai Prison Taught Me About Happiness with T M Hoy

#103 My awesome guest this week is T M Hoy, author of the book 'Lasting Happiness; Secrets Of The Heart, Mind & Spirit Revealed'. Can you imagine spending sixteen years in a Thai prison? Could you find lasting happiness? What lessons would you learn about forgiveness and acceptance? This conversation sat with me for days after. I highly recommend you check it out. Enjoy! About T M Hoy: T M Hoy is the author of Lasting Happiness has also written Rotting in the Bangkok Hilton (Skyhorse Publishing), and The Nature of Religion (PanPublishing). He was born and raised in Mountain View, CA, the heart of Silicon Valley. He became a gemologist after college, working in the jewelry industry for years. He traveled widely in Europe and Asia (where he lived for a decade). While living in Northern Thailand, a friend murdered a woman in his house. Fearful of the Thai police, he helped cover it up. When caught, he could not pay the bribe the judge and police demanded, and spent the next 16 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Lasting Happiness is the product of that experience - a realization of how little we really need to be happy. The author stays busy applying a fraction of the advice he dishes out to others. ;) He lives in Tucson, AZ, where he fights a (losing) battle against getting fat from all the great Mexican restaurants.
