Fasting Q&A: Low BG, Night Sweats, Nightshift Workers, Feeling Sleepy, and Thyroid Meds.
Episode #87 In this Fasting Q&A episode, Megan answers some of your fasting questions: 1. I’m a healthy female with low blood sugars when extended fasting. Is this normal, should I be worried, can this be fixed? [03:03] 2. How do I handle night sweats during menopause? Will fasting help with this? [09:20] 3. What are your tips for nightshift workers who are fasting? [14:03] 4. During my long fast, after about 24 hours I begin to have an achy feeling on one side of my back, around the kidney area. It's uncomfortable enough to get my attention but not super painful. I do not get this feeling at any other time. What could be causing it, and should I be concerned? [19:29] 5. Heading into the evening on the first full day of the fast I often find myself not able to concentrate on anything and sometimes feel sleepy. After a night's sleep, however, I feel great and am able to focus just fine. Is this normal, or is there something I can be doing to avoid the brain fog? [23:19] 6. Do you need to stop thyroid medication while fasting? Fasting Q&A: Mindset and Behavior Questions With Dr Terri Lance
Episode #86 In this Fasting Q&A episode, Terri answers some of your fasting questions: 1. I have built a successful fasting muscle (as you all refer to it), but I find that I’m still not making progress because I throw out all my healthy eating knowledge when it comes to my eating days. Help! [02:02] 2. Why is it so hard to do what I know I should do? I have read and listened to just about everything Megan Ramos and Jason Fung have done. What the heck is wrong with me? [08:12] 3. I recently participated in the Healthy Habits and Mindset Keys Masterclass. I have been working to change my habits and address some of my underlying mindset pieces, but sometimes struggle to see how it is all connected to being more successful. [16:24] 4. I started fasting prior to all of the pandemic stay-at-home orders. I did pretty well and then actually made a lot of progress while I worked from home and stopped socialising around food. But ever since restrictions were lifted, I have not been able to get back to my focused approach that helped me so much in 2020 to the end of 2021. Do you have any suggestions that can help me to get back on track? I’ve gained about 15- 20 pounds of the weight I lost and I’m afraid I will keep gaining. Fasting Q&A: Fasting and Training, Tracking Weight, Fasting With an IUD, Bacon Fat, and More
Episode #78 In this Fasting Q&A episode, Nadia answers some of your fasting questions: 1. How do you manage fasting when training? [01:48] 2. When you track your weight on the scales weekly, why does the weight shown seem to go from the same to a loss (or not) between days 6 and 7? How do you get a true reading? [10:16] 3. I’ve been eating low carb and fasting now for more than 5years. I’ve fallen off the low-carb wagon for months. Recently, I did a reset three-day fast and I wanted to continue but I felt horrible. My ketones were pretty high. Does this mean my blood is acidic? Would it have been dangerous to continue? Or am I just not yet fat-adapted again? [15:47] 4. I have an IUD and don’t have a period. How can I figure out when my cycle is? I like the concept of eating differently at different stages of my cycle? [23:56] 5. I haven’t heard you recommend bacon fat and lard as one of the fats to cook in. Is there a reason? [32:33] 6. How long does insulin stay raised after a meal?
