In this episode, I explain the importance of presenting Christian apologetic material with truth and love, not one or the other. If we have not love, we are nothing, but if we have not truth, then we can't be anything regardless. We must balance truth and love, with a hope for all unbelievers' salvation. We cannot compromise truth to avoid offending others, but we shouldn't engage with nonbelievers in a manner that is needlessly offensive and confrontational. In this episode, I (Daniel, a Christian and a Science Teacher) question my brother (John, a software engineer) about his Agnostic-Atheism. In this episode, I look into 1st and 2nd Timothy as well as Ephesians, and discuss the role of women in church structure. 1st Timothy 2:12 says (NASB), "12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a wrongdoer." This verse will anchor our discussion, the key phrase is "over a man". While women can serve in leadership, teaching, and authoritative roles in the church, they should not exercise such authority "over a man". The context of 1st Century Ephesus is very relevant to the discussion, as it was a cultural, religious, and ethnic melting pot and world trade center. In this episode, Shepard Merritt and I sit down to discuss the importance of Biblical male leadership in a family unit, and postulate reasons why the Devil hates the father's leadership role in the home. Here are two reasons the Devil hates male leadership: (1) All institutions need an authority, and without authority there is anarchy. The Devil loves anarchy. Look at any institution worth its salt. There is a hierarchy of leadership with a final authority that makes tough decisions. The father is the final authority in the home by God's design. The Devil hates this because when it is Biblical male leadership, it is very effective, efficient, and functional. (2) Male leadership is strong by God’s design; it is a bulwark to evil. We know this because God has designed men to be physically strong. Men have more testosterone which makes them more aggressive. So when a male faces evil, they can fight back with a powerful force. The Devil is scared of masculine, aggressive leadership that stands on truth. On the flip side, the strengths of male leadership, when not fueled by the Gospel, can become the weaknesses of male leadership. Can anything be objectively and absolutely morally wrong from a godless worldview? Without being made in the image of God, can one reason from what "is" (biology) to how we "ought" to act? In this episode, I breakdown the moral argument as presented by various theists and Christian apologists, and analyze if a godless worldview can objectively ground morality. The moral argument goes like this: Premise #1: If God does not exist, then objective moral values and duties do not exist. Premise #2: Objective moral values and duties do exist. Conclusion: God exists. I also go into some of the most common objections to the Moral Argument for God's existence, such as, if objective morality exists, then why do people disagree so often about what's right? I also discuss an insightful quote from C.S. Lewis, “My argument against God was that the universe seemed so cruel and unjust. But how had I got this idea of just and unjust? A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line. What was I comparing this universe with when I called it unjust?” We know that the moral law exists because we constantly are judging actions as right or wrong according to it. We may not have every nuance figured out yet, but in a general sense, we know that some things are absolutely wrong, and others are absolutely right. In this episode, I break down the youtube video of Progressive Christian YouTuber and pastor, Colby Martin. He argues that since the Bible is a "translation of a translation of a translation," we cannot know for sure what the original author's message really was in the biblical text. He also claims that since there are so many "contradictions" in the Bible, it cannot be trusted. Another assertion he makes is that since one Greek word often can be translated in different ways, that it is nearly impossible to know for sure how it is to be translated. This low and skeptical view of Scripture is common to those submerged in Progressive Christianity, a virus of the Faith that is taking hold of many believers who are more liberal in temperament and politics.
