INTERVIEW BEGINS AT 7:27 Oil Club is becoming a big name in China’s music scene. Known for its crazy sound system, ecletic parties and bringing some of the biggest talent to China within the last two years, Oil has put the city of Shenzhen on the map for cultivating its forward thinking and powerful music scene and making it a prime destination for artists and DJ’s to perform. Acts like Kode9, Jacques Greene, Nina Las Vegas and Lotic have all blessed the decks at Oil. The founders, Yang Yang Song and Huiyuan Sun chatted with me about their journey opening the club, there recent 2 year anniversary party and the secret behind their unique sound system. INTERVIEW BEGINS AT 5:48Producer Anti-General, is carving out his own lane within the Dark Trap sub genre. His production is clean, ominous and filled with ghostly decadence. He often borrows and blends sounds from around the world by mixing elements like Arabian flutes, African drums and Traditional Chinese and Japanese instruments into his work. After his appearance on the Chinese reality TV show Rave Now in 2018, things have soared for the young producer, as he’s been traveling around Asia performing and even recently at the legendary Amsterdam Dance Event. INTERVIEW BEGINS 4:45If you walk into Shenzhen's Oil Club in China on any given Saturday night, you may find a man by the name of Daniel Power, playing at 160 BPM. Transitioning seamlessly between UK Drum and Bass, Footwerk and even some half time. Daniel has been living in Shenzhen , China for 10 years now and has been heavily involved with growing the cities music culture, first as the music director at Sector, to now running one of the fastest growing party and record labels called Unchained. Unchained celebrates UK Drum and Bass culture. Their monthly parties at Oil Club are crazy, packing out dance floors and bringing key figures in the bass scene from across the pond to China. There’s also one rapper in particular living in the city who is using his influence and up bringing to create powerful songs and art. 梦徐MX is his name.He’s a 2 time contestant on the popular show The Rap of China and since his appearance on the show, life has changed drastically for the Chongqing native. 梦徐MX has been making music like crazy building up his catalogue with bangers and doing this with out being signed to a major record label. The independent artist has gained nearly 24,000 fans on twitter like Chinese app, Weibo and has been touring around China promoting his music. With praises from publications like Vice and Noisey, the rapper never falters out of his chill, laid back state and remains relatively low key. 梦徐MX talks to Shannon about the inspiration behind his music, the challenges for independent artists in China, and turning down some major record deals. INTERVIEW BEGINS at 9:18Hip Hop is exploding in China and in the past year, many American Hip Hop artists have been coming over to the Middle Kingdom to tour and connect with a whole realm of fans they probably never knew they had. Acts like Rae Sremmurd, A$AP Rocky and even Lil Yachty have touched down to the streets of Chengdu, Shanghai and Beijing. In episode 3, Shannon speaks with producer, Kino Beats who has been coming to China a lot now. The producer has a resume that‘s stacked, making songs for some heavy hitters in the industry like A$AP Rocky, Pharrell, 2 Chainz and even the late great Nipsey Hussle. Even with his star studded catalogue, Kino is so humble and really such a sweet guy. He’s been touring throughout China for the last year with his partners Lex Luger and OG MACO DJing and performing his material.Kino came to CREAM in the summer of 2018 and blessed us with a killer Trap set. He’s also been shaking up dance floors around China like Nox in Chengdu and Arkham in Shanghai. The Boring Room is a collective of DJ's, Producers and Promoters, working tirelessly to bring the best in Electronic, Hip Hop and Hype to the ancient city of Xi'an with their monthly parties. The team has bought some house hold names to perform, DJing alongside acts like Howie Lee, Harikiri and Bohan Phoenix. Club culture is little to non-existent in Xi'an so for this crew, it's a big deal.
