The New Covenant in Jesus | A Study of Hebrews (Part 11)

The Jewish followers of Jesus tried to embrace the New Covenant (Grace) while still hanging on to the Old Covenant (Law). Elements of the Old Covenant were merely “shadows” of the reality of the New Covenant. The contrasts between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant: 1.) We have a better Priest. 2.) We have a better Tabernacle. 3.) We have a better Mediator. 4.) We have better promises. How does the New Covenant make new and better promises? 1.) It is an internal covenant. 2.) It is a personal covenant. 3.) It is a final covenant. God never intended for the first covenant to be the final covenant. The New Covenant makes better promises because God promises to cleanse our sins completely. The Old Covenant could picture forgiveness, but it could not give forgiveness. The New Covenant is final because, in Christ, our sins are completely forgiven. Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he discusses the differences between the Old and New Covenants and why Jesus is better because His sacrifice completely covered our sins. Christ Is the Anchor for Our Souls | A Study of Hebrews (Part 10)

Hebrews 6:9-20 reminds us that Christ is the anchor for our souls. His character is immutable, and His promises are true because He cannot lie.  3 questions to ask yourself as you read this passage:  1.What am I anchoring my soul to?  If you are anchored to Christ, your life will produce this fruit:  Labor in love (vs. 10a)  Minister to the saints (vs. 10b)  Diligence and rejection of laziness (vs. 11)  Learning from and imitating other believers (vs. 12)  2. Is God a trustworthy anchor?  Three reasons God is trustworthy:  His Person (vs. 13-15)  His Purpose (vs. 14)  His Promise (vs. 13b. 16-18)  3. Am I anchored to Christ?  Jesus is a better anchor for our souls. He calls us to be disciples, which means to be disciplined, to spend time learning from Him, and to talk to Him so we can become more like Him.    Join Pastor Chad Glover as he shares how Christ is the anchor for our souls.  Don’t forget to click the “bell” to SUBSCRIBE to get more videos like this to grow your faith!  Connect with us on Social Media ↴  Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/abundantlifels/  Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/abundantlifels  Be a part of the Great Commission: https://livingproof.co/irresistible/  More information on our sermons: https://livingproof.co/sermons/  Do you want to see your life changed by Jesus? Can Christians Lose Their Salvation? | A Study of Hebrews (Part 9)

Hebrews 6:4-6 contains some of the most controversial verses in the Bible. Many Christians interpret the text to mean that Christians can lose their salvation. However, that’s not what the author of Hebrews is saying. If we could lose our salvation because of our works, we would lose it every time we sinned. This is why our salvation is secured by God’s Son and sealed by God’s Spirit. Our salvation is not a reward for our works but a gift based on Christ’s work. These verses are a warning for Christians who choose to live in sin, disbelief, and disobedience. God promises to chasten and discipline any of His children who choose to live in sin and rebellion. There will be eternal consequences when the redeemed of God rebel against God. If you’re a child of God, you cannot sin and win. God will put you under conviction, and you can either respond and repent or continue to walk in disobedience. The Marks of Spiritual Maturity | A Study of Hebrews (Part 8)

Hebrews 5:11-12 is written as a warning to “baby” believers not to stay in spiritual infancy but to “grow up” to spiritual maturity. Everyone begins spiritually where they began physically—infancy. But where there is a new birth, growth should follow. What are the marks of spiritual maturity? 1.) A heart of humility. When your heart is humble before God, it will be shaped by the Word in you, not the world around you. 2.) A life lived obediently. The mark of spiritual maturity is not biblical knowledge—it’s biblical obedience. When you fail to obey God in the simple things you have no hope of obeying in the harder things! 3.) A focus on eternity. Spiritual maturity is not reflected in knowing a lot of theology. It’s in living for the things of eternity. How To Be Accepted by God | A Study of Hebrews (Part 7)

To rest is to trust. Trust in Christ’s Word and trust in His Work. We are accepted by God only through Christ’s work and not our work. You cannot rest in who God is unless He reveals who you are. Resting in God’s Word allows Him to reveal our spiritual condition. Hebrews 4:12-13 reveals 3 things about God’s Word: 1.) God’s Word is a scalpel. 2.) God’s Word is a sword. 3.) God’s Word is a spotlight. God’s Word exposes our heart’s condition, convicts us of sin, and convinces us of our need for a Savior! If we fail to rest in God’s Word for our salvation, it will one day bring our destruction. To be accepted by God, we must place our salvation in Him and trust that He is sufficient to save us. Resting in God | A Study of Hebrews (Part 6)

Many Christians live at peace with God but never learn how to rest in God. Instead of resting in God, we work, wrestle, and worry over things that are not in our control. In Hebrews 4, the author of Hebrews warns his audience about this fruitless striving. Work is about trying to earn God’s love and favor. Worship is done in response to God’s love and favor. When we rest in God, our response is not work but worship. 3 Examples of Rest: 1.) Creation rest. 2.) Canaan rest. 3.) Calvary rest. We find rest when we trust in the complete sufficiency of the finished work of Calvary. As Christians, our Sabbath rest is not found on a specific day but in a specific Person—the resurrected Christ! We rest in God when we recognize our co-crucifixion to live a life of submission. Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he shares the importance of resting in God and how we can live in His peace. The Consequences of Disobeying God | A Study of Hebrews (Part 5)

Hebrews 3 contains another warning about the consequences of disobeying God. The author warns the Hebrews not to disregard the sufficiency of Christ. This came from the generation of Israelites who left Egypt but never entered the Promised Land because of disbelief and disobedience. The Israelites disbelieved God, so they disobeyed God, forfeiting the promises of God! They had enough faith to get out of Egypt but not enough to get into the Promised Land. Because they had hard heads and hearts, they experienced the consequences of disobeying God. A rebellious heart is seen not only in animosity toward God but also in apathy toward God. Apathy leads to inaction, but faith is obedience in motion. Your belief in God is evidenced by obedience to God. Your words reflect what you believe. Rebellion brings death. Repentance brings life. Choose Jesus. Choose life! Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he shares how we can avoid the consequences of disobeying God. God’s Plan for Man | A Study of Hebrews (Part 4)

Do you wonder if God has a plan for mankind despite sin? In Hebrews 2, the author draws people’s attention to why God created humans. God’s plan for man is to reflect His image. God doesn’t make broken things. He designed us to be crowned with glory, beauty, and splendor. However, that image is broken because of sin. The Bible doesn’t waste any time in telling us why we are in the predicament we’re in today. 1.) The role of man. We were made to reflect God’s image and rule God’s creation. God has given us a purpose to rule creation. 2.) The restriction of sin. Everyone knows what it is like to live under the consequences of sin. We were made to reflect God’s image and rule God’s creation, but that was broken. 3.) The restoration of Jesus. Jesus is the only one who can restore our brokenness. He is the better Savior. God’s plan for man is to restore our ability to reflect His image. Join Pastor Chad Glover as he shares about how we can be put back together in Christ to reflect the glory of our Maker and Savior. The Danger of Drifting from God | A Study of Hebrews (Part 3)

Hebrews 2 begins with a warning for those who are drifting from God. These ancient Hebrews had heard the good news that Jesus died for their sins and rose again. They hadn’t entirely rejected the gospel but hadn’t yet responded to it. They were drifting from God and in danger of drifting past their opportunity for salvation.   The currents of the world will carry you away from God if you are not anchored to Jesus. Many people don’t reject the gospel. They just fail to respond to it. Whether you reject the gospel or fail to respond, the outcome is the same. Those who drift away from God and do not respond to the gospel will die forever lost without Christ.   We need to get anchored to Christ because He died to save us from sin’s penalty so we can live eternally.   Three reasons to get anchored to Christ:   The work of the cross.  The wrath of God.  The witness of apostles.  Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he shares the dangers of drifting from God and how believers can stay anchored to Jesus.   Don’t forget to click the “bell” to SUBSCRIBE to get more videos like this to grow your faith!  Connect with us on Social Media ↴  Facebook:    / abundantlifels    Instagram:    / abundantlifels    Connect with Pastor Phil ↴  Facebook:  / philhopperkc    Instagram:  / philhopper_kc    Web: https://livingproof.co/about-us/pasto...  Be a part of the Great Commission: https://livingproof.co/irresistible/   More information on our sermons: https://livingproof.co/sermons/  Do you want to see your life changed by Jesus?
