Run the Race with Endurance | A Study of Hebrews (Part 21)

Faith is seeing the invisible, but not the nonexistent. Hebrews 12:1-2 calls believers to run the faith race with endurance. We can be encouraged as we run because we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses who have gone before us. How to run the race with endurance: 1.) Run with faith. Like others before us have run their race of faith, this is our time to run our race of faith. 2.) Run with fortitude. It’s the extra weight you carry that wears you down, and it’s the sin you carry that holds you down. If you want to run with endurance, you must choose what you carry wisely. 3.) Run with focus. Your focus will determine your future. You must run with a focus on the finish—looking unto Jesus! To run the race with endurance, you need to be spiritually healthy, surrounded by community, and filled with God’s Word. As you run your race, don’t focus on the pain; focus on the prize. What Does Faith Produce? | A Study of Hebrews (Part 20)

Faith is believing and obeying God even when it seems impossible. Our faith in God produces eternal impact. How does faith produce eternal impact? 1.) Our faith in God tears down strongholds. Don’t tell God about the impossible. Tell the impossible about God and watch Him give you victory. 2.) Our faith in God redeems our stories. God can take our broken pieces and make masterpieces. He can redeem your story and use you for His glory. 3.) Our faith in God eliminates excuses. Being faithful doesn’t mean that life won’t be painful. Don’t let your objection dictate your direction. Running the Race of Faith | A Study of Hebrews (Part 19)

Faith is believing something is so, even when it isn’t so, so it will be so, because God says it’s so! Faith that IS something is a faith that DOES something! We are all running the race of faith. In Hebrews 11, Moses teaches us how to run the race of faith. 3 Ways Faith Runs: 1.) Faith runs to God’s promises. 2.) Faith runs to heaven’s rewards. 3.) Faith runs to Kingdom risk. Moses’ parents chose to obey God's word over Pharaoh's. He learned from their example, and he ultimately chose God’s Word over the fame that came from being part of Pharaoh’s family. Moses knew the rewards of this world are fleeting, but the consequences of sin are forever. Faith changes you. When you put your faith in motion, it begins to change you. A faith that changes you has the power to change others around you. Faith is the trigger that unleashes divine power to do the impossible. It’s always right to risk for the cause of Christ! We need a vision that demands divine intervention that keeps us in a state of desperation. Join Pastor Phil as he shares how Moses’ life teaches us the principles of running the race of faith. Taking Your Next Steps of Faith | A Study of Hebrews (Part 18)

Being faithful doesn’t mean life won’t be painful. All the faithful people listed in Hebrews 11 lived lives of profound pain and suffering. Real faith cannot be ruined by suffering. It’s refined by suffering. Faith is believing something is so, when it isn’t so, so it will be so, because God said it’s so. Faith is believing God will perform all that He’s promised. It’s trusting in what God has said no matter what you see. Abraham is the spiritual father of the faithful. He embodies the life of faith. Romans 4:16 calls him the father of us all. Not physically but spiritually. Abraham teaches us more than what faith is. He teaches us what faith DOES! Abraham never stopped taking his “next steps” of faith. Abraham’s faith teaches us 4 things: 1.) The pilgrimage of faith. 2.) The patience of faith. 3.) The power of faith. 4.) The proof of faith. God proved Abraham’s faith through Abraham’s obedience! Faith is not merely something that IS. Faith is something that DOES. What is your next step of faith? How to Live by Faith in the Last Days | A Study of Hebrews (Part 17)

We know Christ’s return is near because He and His apostles gave us signs to look for! The examples of Enoch and Noah in Hebrews 11 teach us how to live by faith in these last days. While the world rebelled against God, Noah and Enoch worshiped God. Because of their faith in God, they escaped His judgment. Noah and Enoch lived by faith as they obeyed God. Their lives and stories are prophetic pictures of the Church and the nation of Israel. • Enoch is a picture of us—the Church! Enoch was “raptured” by God before God brought universal judgment and tribulation on the earth. Doctrinally, Enoch prophetically pictures the pre-tribulation rapture of the Church. Enoch teaches us to walk with God in a world of wickedness. • Noah is a picture of the nation of Israel. While Enoch was saved from the Tribulation, Noah was saved through the Tribulation. While the Church will be saved from the Tribulation, Israel will go through it but will be saved as a nation. Noah is a picture of the remnant of Jews who will be saved during the Great Tribulation. Noah teaches us to keep working for God in these wicked days. You are either walking with God or walking away from God—which way are you walking? Dedicate your life to God and rest in Christ! What Is Faith? | A Study of Hebrews (Part 16)

Hebrews 11 is commonly called the “Hebrews Hall of Faith.” The author illustrates what faith is using stories associated with some of the greatest names in Hebrew history. The way to God is never based on our works for God! The way to Him is always by putting our faith in Christ’s work for us. What faith is not: • Faith is not a feeling. It’s more than an emotion. • Faith is not empty religion or superstition. • Faith is more than merely wishful thinking. What faith is: • Faith is simply trusting in divine facts. • Faith is a decision. • Faith is based on tangible evidence. Real faith in God produces a life that is faithful to God. True belief is always reflected in a life of obedience. The real substance of our faith is shown in our lives, not merely in our lips! There is only one way to be accepted by God: by putting your faith in Jesus! Christ cannot accept our works until we first come to God through His work—the Cross. What Every Christian Should Do | A Study of Hebrews (Part 15)

Hebrews 10:19-39 emphasizes both the blessings of salvation and the dangers of apostasy. It calls believers to draw near to God, hold fast to their confession, and consider one another in love. Key points to consider: 1.) What Every Christian Should Do: Draw near to God with a true heart and full assurance of faith (vs. 22). Hold fast to the confession of hope without wavering (vs. 23). Consider one another, stirring up love and good works (vs. 24). 2.) What Every Christian Should Not Do: Willfully sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth (vs. 26). Reject the Son of God and count the blood of the covenant as common (vs. 29). Draw back from the faith and lose heart (vs. 38). 3.) How to Do What We Should Do: Recall past trials and God's faithfulness (vs. 32-34a). Look forward to the return of Christ and the fulfillment of His promises (vs. 34b, 36). Christ’s Victory Over Death and Sin | A Study of Hebrews (Part 14)

Under the Old Covenant, worshippers had only shadows that pointed to Christ—the substance of our salvation. The “shadow” of Christ and His blood—the blood of bulls and goats—could not take away sin! Christ’s victory over death and sin was made final on the cross. His sacrifice was better than any other sacrifice offered under the Levitical Law. Why is Christ the Better Sacrifice? 1.) The sacrifice is connected to the incarnation of God’s Son. 2.) The sacrifice is connected to the crucifixion of God’s Son. 3.) The sacrifice is connected to the devastation of God’s enemies. 4.) The sacrifice is connected to the destruction of our sins. By becoming a man and offering Himself as the sacrificial Lamb, Christ's sacrifice is perfect and complete, unlike the inadequate sacrifices of the Levitical system. In Christ, God has permanently forgiven our sins and defeated our enemy. No other sacrifices need to be made. Freedom from Sin’s Penalty | A Study of Hebrews (Part 13)

Religion is a distortion of redemption. Religion always turns the symbols of our salvation into the substance and the sources. The message of Hebrews is to stop putting your hope in the rituals and symbols and start putting your hope in the true sources of salvation—the reality of what Jesus did at Calvary! What did both the Old and New Covenants have in common? 1.) Both the Old and New Covenants were ratified by blood. 2.) The Old Testament saints were saved on the same basis as those in the New—the shed blood of Christ. 3.) Under both covenants, people are saved by God’s grace alone through their faith alone—not by their works. Our freedom from sin’s penalty is not in the rituals, symbols, and shadows of our salvation, but rather in the source—the blood of Christ. He substitutionary death in our place is what saves us. Jesus’ Sacrifice Covers Our Sins | A Study of Hebrews (Part 12)

All the elements of the earthly tabernacle are a “shadow” of heavenly realities. The implements of worship under the Old Covenant were shadows pointing to Christ. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross ushered in the New Covenant. There are several symbols in the Old Covenant that foreshadow the New Covenant. Shadows of the New Covenant as pictured by the Old Covenant: 1.) The Old Sanctuary. 2.) The Old Sacrifices. 3.) The Old Symbols. 3 things about the New Covenant as pictured by the Old: 1.) The New Sanctuary. 2.) The New Sacrifice. 3.) The New Substance. The Old Covenant symbols were merely shadows of the New Covenant substance of our salvation—the Lord Jesus Christ! Jesus’ sacrifice has cleansed us of all past, present, and future sins. Because Jesus was sinless, He is a perfect High Priest. No more sacrifice is needed.
