What Every Christian Should Do | A Study of Hebrews (Part 15)
Hebrews 10:19-39 emphasizes both the blessings of salvation and the dangers of apostasy. It calls believers to draw near to God, hold fast to their confession, and consider one another in love.
Key points to consider:
1.) What Every Christian Should Do:
Draw near to God with a true heart and full assurance of faith (vs. 22).
Hold fast to the confession of hope without wavering (vs. 23).
Consider one another, stirring up love and good works (vs. 24).
2.) What Every Christian Should Not Do:
Willfully sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth (vs. 26).
Reject the Son of God and count the blood of the covenant as common (vs. 29).
Draw back from the faith and lose heart (vs. 38).
3.) How to Do What We Should Do:
Recall past trials and God's faithfulness (vs. 32-34a).
Look forward to the return of Christ and the fulfillment of His promises (vs. 34b, 36).
Join Pastor Chad as he dives into Hebrews 10 and unpacks the calling and commands given to every Christian.

Christ’s Victory Over Death and Sin | A Study of Hebrews (Part 14)
Under the Old Covenant, worshippers had only shadows that pointed to Christ—the substance of our salvation. The “shadow” of Christ and His blood—the blood of bulls and goats—could not take away sin!
Christ’s victory over death and sin was made final on the cross. His sacrifice was better than any other sacrifice offered under the Levitical Law.
Why is Christ the Better Sacrifice?
1.) The sacrifice is connected to the incarnation of God’s Son.
2.) The sacrifice is connected to the crucifixion of God’s Son.
3.) The sacrifice is connected to the devastation of God’s enemies.
4.) The sacrifice is connected to the destruction of our sins.
By becoming a man and offering Himself as the sacrificial Lamb, Christ's sacrifice is perfect and complete, unlike the inadequate sacrifices of the Levitical system. In Christ, God has permanently forgiven our sins and defeated our enemy. No other sacrifices need to be made.
Join Pastor Phil as he shares how we are victorious in Christ because He holds the victory over death and sin!

Freedom from Sin’s Penalty | A Study of Hebrews (Part 13)
Religion is a distortion of redemption. Religion always turns the symbols of our salvation into the substance and the sources. The message of Hebrews is to stop putting your hope in the rituals and symbols and start putting your hope in the true sources of salvation—the reality of what Jesus did at Calvary!
What did both the Old and New Covenants have in common?
1.) Both the Old and New Covenants were ratified by blood.
2.) The Old Testament saints were saved on the same basis as those in the New—the shed blood of Christ.
3.) Under both covenants, people are saved by God’s grace alone through their faith alone—not by their works.
Our freedom from sin’s penalty is not in the rituals, symbols, and shadows of our salvation, but rather in the source—the blood of Christ. He substitutionary death in our place is what saves us.
Join Pastor Phil as he dives into Hebrews 9 and shares how we can have freedom from sin.

Jesus’ Sacrifice Covers Our Sins | A Study of Hebrews (Part 12)
All the elements of the earthly tabernacle are a “shadow” of heavenly realities. The implements of worship under the Old Covenant were shadows pointing to Christ.
Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross ushered in the New Covenant. There are several symbols in the Old Covenant that foreshadow the New Covenant.
Shadows of the New Covenant as pictured by the Old Covenant:
1.) The Old Sanctuary.
2.) The Old Sacrifices.
3.) The Old Symbols.
3 things about the New Covenant as pictured by the Old:
1.) The New Sanctuary.
2.) The New Sacrifice.
3.) The New Substance.
The Old Covenant symbols were merely shadows of the New Covenant substance of our salvation—the Lord Jesus Christ! Jesus’ sacrifice has cleansed us of all past, present, and future sins. Because Jesus was sinless, He is a perfect High Priest. No more sacrifice is needed.
Join Pastor Phil as he unpacks the shadows of the New Covenant and how Jesus’ sacrifice covers all our sins.

The New Covenant in Jesus | A Study of Hebrews (Part 11)
The Jewish followers of Jesus tried to embrace the New Covenant (Grace) while still hanging on to the Old Covenant (Law). Elements of the Old Covenant were merely “shadows” of the reality of the New Covenant.
The contrasts between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant:
1.) We have a better Priest.
2.) We have a better Tabernacle.
3.) We have a better Mediator.
4.) We have better promises.
How does the New Covenant make new and better promises?
1.) It is an internal covenant.
2.) It is a personal covenant.
3.) It is a final covenant.
God never intended for the first covenant to be the final covenant. The New Covenant makes better promises because God promises to cleanse our sins completely. The Old Covenant could picture forgiveness, but it could not give forgiveness. The New Covenant is final because, in Christ, our sins are completely forgiven.
Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he discusses the differences between the Old and New Covenants and why Jesus is better because His sacrifice completely covered our sins.

Christ Is the Anchor for Our Souls | A Study of Hebrews (Part 10)
Hebrews 6:9-20 reminds us that Christ is the anchor for our souls. His character is immutable, and His promises are true because He cannot lie.
3 questions to ask yourself as you read this passage:
1.What am I anchoring my soul to?
If you are anchored to Christ, your life will produce this fruit:
Labor in love (vs. 10a)
Minister to the saints (vs. 10b)
Diligence and rejection of laziness (vs. 11)
Learning from and imitating other believers (vs. 12)
2. Is God a trustworthy anchor?
Three reasons God is trustworthy:
His Person (vs. 13-15)
His Purpose (vs. 14)
His Promise (vs. 13b. 16-18)
3. Am I anchored to Christ?
Jesus is a better anchor for our souls. He calls us to be disciples, which means to be disciplined, to spend time learning from Him, and to talk to Him so we can become more like Him.
Join Pastor Chad Glover as he shares how Christ is the anchor for our souls.

Can Christians Lose Their Salvation? | A Study of Hebrews (Part 9)
Hebrews 6:4-6 contains some of the most controversial verses in the Bible. Many Christians interpret the text to mean that Christians can lose their salvation. However, that’s not what the author of Hebrews is saying.
If we could lose our salvation because of our works, we would lose it every time we sinned. This is why our salvation is secured by God’s Son and sealed by God’s Spirit. Our salvation is not a reward for our works but a gift based on Christ’s work.
These verses are a warning for Christians who choose to live in sin, disbelief, and disobedience. God promises to chasten and discipline any of His children who choose to live in sin and rebellion. There will be eternal consequences when the redeemed of God rebel against God.
If you’re a child of God, you cannot sin and win. God will put you under conviction, and you can either respond and repent or continue to walk in disobedience.
Join Pastor Phil as he shares how these warnings in Hebrews answer the question, “Can Christians lose their salvation?”

The Marks of Spiritual Maturity | A Study of Hebrews (Part 8)
Hebrews 5:11-12 is written as a warning to “baby” believers not to stay in spiritual infancy but to “grow up” to spiritual maturity. Everyone begins spiritually where they began physically—infancy. But where there is a new birth, growth should follow.
What are the marks of spiritual maturity?
1.) A heart of humility.
When your heart is humble before God, it will be shaped by the Word in you, not the world around you.
2.) A life lived obediently.
The mark of spiritual maturity is not biblical knowledge—it’s biblical obedience. When you fail to obey God in the simple things you have no hope of obeying in the harder things!
3.) A focus on eternity.
Spiritual maturity is not reflected in knowing a lot of theology. It’s in living for the things of eternity.
Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he shares how to identify the marks of spiritual maturity in a believer’s life.

How To Be Accepted by God | A Study of Hebrews (Part 7)
To rest is to trust. Trust in Christ’s Word and trust in His Work. We are accepted by God only through Christ’s work and not our work. You cannot rest in who God is unless He reveals who you are.
Resting in God’s Word allows Him to reveal our spiritual condition. Hebrews 4:12-13 reveals 3 things about God’s Word:
1.) God’s Word is a scalpel.
2.) God’s Word is a sword.
3.) God’s Word is a spotlight.
God’s Word exposes our heart’s condition, convicts us of sin, and convinces us of our need for a Savior! If we fail to rest in God’s Word for our salvation, it will one day bring our destruction. To be accepted by God, we must place our salvation in Him and trust that He is sufficient to save us.
Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he shares how we gain God’s acceptance through Jesus’ finished work on the cross.

Resting in God | A Study of Hebrews (Part 6)
Many Christians live at peace with God but never learn how to rest in God. Instead of resting in God, we work, wrestle, and worry over things that are not in our control. In Hebrews 4, the author of Hebrews warns his audience about this fruitless striving.
Work is about trying to earn God’s love and favor. Worship is done in response to God’s love and favor. When we rest in God, our response is not work but worship.
3 Examples of Rest:
1.) Creation rest.
2.) Canaan rest.
3.) Calvary rest.
We find rest when we trust in the complete sufficiency of the finished work of Calvary.
As Christians, our Sabbath rest is not found on a specific day but in a specific Person—the resurrected Christ! We rest in God when we recognize our co-crucifixion to live a life of submission.
Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he shares the importance of resting in God and how we can live in His peace.
