#64 Why I Almost QUIT BJJ | How I overcame it

I nearly quit jiu-jitsu as a purple belt.    This isn't something that I talk about very much, or even at all really. I used to try to get fulfillment in winning grappling tournaments. It worked for a long time, all the way up until I stopped winning.    I know the thought of quitting jiu-jitsu is something that nearly everyone goes through in their  journey. I wanted to take today and be honest about my struggle and some of the incredibly fortunate events and people that helped me get through this mindset.    If you have a story of overcoming quitting jiu-jitsu, I would love to hear from you and share it on the podcast. Jiu-Jitsu Warm-Ups Are Stupid | Suckless Saturday

I know I will take heat for this episode. But, like I say at the end, I would love to hear your opinion if you're pro warm ups in a class environment. I just find them to be a waste of time.   Small caveat that I should of mentioned but simply forgot. I have found that warm ups in kids/teen classes are really helpful for getting kids focused and ready for class.   Get Your Free Copy of Simplifying Jiu-Jitsu at simplifyingjiujitsu.com/opt-in

#62 Alex Mazhukhin: Mr. Build It Does Jiu-Jitsu

As a grappler, do you ever watch a tv show or youtube channel and think, "This guy is so cool, I bet he'd love jiu-jitsu?"   Maybe I am the only weirdo who does that. Either way, finding out that someone that you look up to trains is such a fun experience!    That is what happened to me a few weeks back when I found out Alex Mazhukhin(@mr.build_it) aka Mr.Build It on Youtube, took up jiu-jitsu a few years back.   In this interview you get to see someone who is highly successful in one creative aspect who is applying those principles to jiu-jitsu.    Alex also gives some extremely helpful tips to Josh(@thejoshmckinney) on social media that those of you who may want to enter the influencer world may really benefit from!   Be sure to claim your free copy of Simplifying Jiu-Jitsu at simplifyingjiujitsu.com/opt-in

#60 Jw Wright: Growing Jiu-Jitsu

For me(@thejoshmckinney) coming up in the St Louis Jiu-Jitsu scene there is one person that was never a part of my team, whom I believe had a huge influence on my jiu-jitsu. Whether by creating tournament series/super fight shows that I was able to compete on or training up opponents that I had the privilege of fighting. That person was Jw Wright(@jw.wright).   I think if there's one hidden thing to pull out of this interview it is how important it is to give back to your local jiu-jitsu community. That was something that Jw has always done. Even though you could argue that my team was his direct competitor in business and in competition there was always an open door policy both ways when to came to cross training and helping each other out.    If you enjoyed today's episode be sure to subscribe to the channel.   If you want to be a part of the simplifying jiu-jitsu email list go to simplifyingjiujitsu.com/opt-in and I will also send you a FREE copy of the "Simplifying Jiu-Jitsu" ebook that I recently wrote.  Be on the lookout for my new youtube series "Why You Suck at Jiu-Jitsu" where we break down the fine details of a move/position and explain what most people miss.
