Ethical investing is becoming increasingly popular, and it's also delivering some great returns. In this episode you will learn: • What ethical investing is • Whats socially responsible investing is • What sustainable investing is • What the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) is and what it means for investors • The growth of ethical investing • Ethical investment options for retail investors • Norway's new approach to ethical investing How to Get Involved in Equity Mates: • Equity Mates Website • Ask Us Anything Page • Thought Starters • Equity Mates Facebook Page • Facebook Discussion Group • Instagram • Equity Mates Twitter • Email (contact@equitymates.com) Hosted on Acast. Expert Investor: Julia Lee - Mastermind #1

Wow, this episode is a cracker! Julia Lee is an Australian Equities Analyst at Bell Direct, and loves talking about stocks. We're so excited to have her back on the show. The last time we spoke with Julia, it was such a success we had to get her back on. So this is the first episode of our Equity Mates Mastermind sessions. How does it work? Each month, Ren (Alec) & Bryce will come together with Julia, and each pitch a stock we think is either interesting, be it due to its business model, its opportunity for growth or perhaps its management, or that we think presents a good investment opportunity. Please note, in no way is this a buy, hold, or sell recommendation, and doing your own research on any stocks discussed is critical, this is general information and discussion only. The idea of these sessions is to expose you to the different ways in which we think about companies, and go about researching them, and to obviously learn from Julia, who has a ton of experience. We're hoping to get Julia's thoughts on our approaches. Unfortunately, Ren couldn't be with us for the inaugural session, but he'll make up for it when we meet again soon. Stocks and resources discussed: • Lynas (LYC.ASX) - Lynas Corporation, Ltd. is an Australian rare-earths mining company • Breville Group (BRG.ASX) - Breville Group Limited today is a global electrical business, centered around its successful and growing Breville brand • Find Julia on Twitter • Follow Julia's insights at Bell Direct How to Get Involved in Equity Mates: • Equity Mates Website • Ask Us Anything Page • Thought Starters • Equity Mates Facebook Page • Facebook Discussion Group • Instagram • Equity Mates Twitter • Email (contact@equitymates.com) Hosted on Acast. EM Chat: Inside The Mind Of A Beginner Investor | Mates of Equity Mates

This episode is a cracker - a must-not-miss! One of the original reasons we started Equity Mates was to track the journey of other beginners, as we all learnt to invest together. We believe there is a huge amount of value in learning from other beginners because we all face the same challenges. While it's still very important to get insight and ideas from the experts, sometimes it's refreshing to hear the experience of someone on your level. In this episode, we start our Mates of Equity Mates series and sit down to talk with Kip. Kip is in his late 20's, working full-time, and has made a couple of small purchases to start his investing journey. We wanted to pick his brains, answer some of his questions, and get an insight into his approach over the next 12 months, as he plans to become more active. In this episode you will learn: • How Kip decided what stocks to buy • Kip's investing strategy and approach over the next 12 months • How Kip saves to invest • Why Uber might be an investment decision • His thoughts on superannuation, and how to treat it as a millennial If you want to be part of our series, then reach out to us. We would love to chat about your journey! Expert Investor: Meet The Investor: Paul Moore | Back Your Conviction

We don't need to look very far to find some very successful and talented investors in our very own backyard. Many episodes ago we introduced Meet The Investor, with Kerr Neilson - the beginning of a series of episodes introducing you to an Australian investor you may not have heard of. After a hiatus, we're returning to this format to bring you the second episode of Meet The Investor. We've chosen Paul Moore. Who is Paul Moore: Paul Moore is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of PM Capital. He developed the strategies and philosophy that guide the investing principles at PM Capital, and have underpinned the fund's consistently good performance, compared to indices, since it began in 1998. Paul started out in 1985 as an equities analyst, and then went on to be a fund manager at BT, looking after the Select Markets American Growth fund. Between 1994 and 1998 Paul was in charge of two of Australia's best performing global equities funds, and his group was awarded International Equities Manager of the Year in 1995 and 1996. Paul is a value investor. One of the biggest lessons from Paul, as you will hear in this episode, is to back your instinct, and to try and uncover assets that are mispriced. In this episode, we play a number of audio clips from various interviews with Paul, to help give you an insight into how he thinks an investor. Expert Investor: Ted Richards | The Dunning-Kruger Effect

It wasn't enough for Alec to speak with his AFL hero the first time, so we decided to get him back on the show for another guest interview. This episode we chat with Ted Richards - a premiership player with the Sydney Swans, and now Director of Business Development at automated investment firm Six Park. Ted has recently returned form some time abroad, where he studied behavioural finance at Harvard. We spend time unpacking some of his learnings. Understanding and recognising mental bias as an investor is very important, and can help you to avoid silly emotional-driven mistakes. The Dunning-Kruger effect is an example of a cognitive bias. Simply it's a tendency for unskilled individuals to overestimate their own ability and the tendency for experts to underestimate their own ability. This applies to all investors! Ted is a strong believer of taking the emotion out of investing and applying a rules-based approach, to try and reduce the impact of cognitive bias. It's always good to refresh your memory on these topics. We hope you enjoy!
