Next Top Trader: Week 5 Update | Walk Disney Is Hot!

As always, we start this week with an episode that recaps the last 5 days of market trading in the US, the jostling of positions on the leaderboard of Next Top Trader, and a review of our portfolios. With Ren maintaining his lead over Bryce, we look at both of the portfolio's performances and discuss what our strategy is going to be for the last week of the competition. Alec is sitting pretty, so Bryce needs to pull a rabbit out of a hat if he's to have any chance of getting ahead. We discuss why Walt Disney and Comcast Corp both had great weeks, and review another solid week of growth on the NASDAQ that has taken it to new all-time highs. Last week Ren put a trade on for a 3x leveraged inverse-financials ETF, expecting that the big banks would report underwhelming results, however, this wasn't the case... Tune in for all the latest. There's only one week of Australia's Next Top Trader to go and the competition is tight at the top. This time next week, we will have a winner! Stay tuned. Next Top Trader: Week 3 Update | The Strategy Of A Technical Trader

We're now about to launch into the 4th week of Australia's Next Top Trader, meaning we are at the halfway mark! A lot of traders are in the green, which is great news. Our top 10 are flying, and the race for top spot is really heating up. As usual, to start the week, we discuss the week that was on the US markets. We take a look at oil, the S&P500, the NASDAQ, and discuss the performance of our portfolios. As well as sitting down with Matt to discuss what stocks are hot, and what aren't so hot, we chat with Tiaan - a student from the University of Sydney, about his strategy for the competition, and broader investing approach. Next Top Trader: Market, Stop and Limit | Different Orders

When placing an order to buy or sell your stocks, you may have noticed there are a few options you can choose from - market order, limit order or a stop order. Each order type has its advantages, and can be used in different situations, depending on what you are trying to achieve. Understanding what these order types mean, and how to execute them, will help you manage your risk and return. The most basic, and common, order type is the market order. In this episode we explain what it means and how it's executed. You would have heard us talk about the 'stop loss' and how it can be used to lock in your gains or limit your losses. If you've always wanted to know what we're talking about, then this is the episode for you. This is the last episode in our lesson series for Australia's Next Top Trader. We'll continue to bring you market updates and stock tips each Monday for the remainder of the comp, and will return to the regular Equity Mates content! Hosted on Acast. Next Top Trader: Turn Up The Volume!

No, we're not talking about the volume of your speakers. We're talking about the volume of trades. Volume, or the amount of a stock traded each day, is a key metric many investors use to help them make buying and selling decisions. When a stock is in demand, its price tends to go up, as there are more people wanting to buy than sell. Conversely, when a stock is out of favour by investors, and more are wanting to sell than buy, the price tends to be pushed down. Volume helps give you an indication of the favour of the stock - if it's in demand or not. This episode, we dissect volume, and how you can use it to benefit your investing decisions.
