How I reduced my 'Toxic Load', lost 40 pounds and got pregnant while making the film Overload

Soozie Eastman is a documentary filmmaker and short film producer. While earning her MFA in Producing for TV and Film at Chapman University she developed a profound love for educating and inspiring people through motion pictures. Soozie has taught courses in pre-production and was Director of Programs for the HUMANITAS Prize honoring writers in television and film. After working in entertainment for over a decade, she returned to her hometown of Louisville where she is currently the Executive Director of the Louisville Film Society, serves on the Louisville Film Commission, and produces the annual Flyover Film Festival. Soozie continues her love of creating "mindful media" with her latest film endeavor, her feature documentary, OVERLOAD: America's Toxic Love Story. From the Overload Film website: "Before starting a family, Soozie Eastman, daughter of an industrial chemical distributor, embarks on a journey to find out the levels of toxins in her body and explores if there is anything she or anyone else can do to change them. Soozie has just learned that hundreds of synthetic toxins are now found in every baby born in America and the government and chemical corporations are doing little to protect citizens and consumers. With guidance from world-renowned physicians and environmental leaders, interviews with scientists and politicians, and stories of everyday Americans, Soozie uncovers how we got to be so overloaded with chemicals and if there is anything we can do to take control of our exposure." Living Healthy in a Chemical World with Dr. Aly Cohen, MD

Therese "Tee" and Aly discuss her book Non-Toxic Guide to Living Healthy in a Chemical World. In 2013, Dr. Aly Cohen created The Smart Human LLC, a company designed to inform public and private institutions about environmental health concerns and practical solutions to help minimize chemical exposures. Whether found in hospital neonatology intensive care units, pre-schools, or even our own homes, the 87,000 chemicals surrounding us on a daily basis, may have serious health implications; neurodevelopmental, fertility, cancer, thyroid, and other endocrine system risks. The human fetus, toddlers, and teens are particularly vulnerable to the effects of some extremely low-level chemical exposures due to rapid growth and cell turnover during these vulnerable windows of development. - 2:52 Aly talks about the book and which is an offshoot of a textbook she wrote with Dr Frederick S. vom Saal, PhD in 2017 - 3:45 The book Guides you to Living a Healthy Life and walks you through the solutions. How to understand the chemical problems which help you with the solution. How to do changes at your own pace. Do it yourself solutions and other solutions made for everyone. It comes from her and Fred's own experience. Dr Frederick S. vom Saal, PhD was the one primarily the person behind getting BPA out of baby bottles. Aly is also a Mom and wanted to make sure her kids were not inundated with chemicals invading their bodies and shares her knowledge. - 9:34 Once you start to reduce your exposure to certain chemicals in your life, there is evidence that the chemicals will also start exiting your system. -13:36 Many physicians are not trained in chemicals and nutrition and they have very little time to share this information with their patients. Physicians have to learn it outside their practice. Most major Medical Schools are primarily subsidized by the Pharma industry and they do not even teach Nutrition right now in 2020. Even the best Medical Schools in the USA get about 5 hours of nutrition education in 4 years of medical school. -15:20 It is an uphill climb: Doctors are not trained in Chemicals like BPA, Phthalates, heavy metals, and environmental exposures, and how they affect brain health, the endocrine system and cognition and breast cancer risk etc... She is trying to change it from the inside out. -16:48 There are many different formulas for products in Europe than for the same products in the USA. -17:42 She is seeing sicker and sicker patients and at younger ages such as obesity, infertility, autoimmune diseases, and thyroid conditions in their 20's. Sicker people at younger ages. -18:18 With regard to COVID-19 these chemicals cause inflammation in the body. You should be thinking about reducing inflammation by reducing chemicals that can contribute to a lot of chronic health conditions. -20:31 Nutritional Sufficiency's: What you eat in nutrition can help you reduce the harm from these exposures. She calls it human fertilizer. -21:30 Vitamin D and the benefits 22:40 What is her biggest beef? Clean drinking water and Toxic Air fresheners -29:37 The Smart Human - Her platform/website with tips every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. www.thesmarthuman.com Order her book 'Non-Toxic Guide to Living Healthy in a Chemical World': https://www.amazon.com/dp/0190082356/?ref=exp_influencer-c360edec_dp_vv_d Website: https://thesmarthuman.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheSmartHuman Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thesmarthuman/?hl=en Podcast: https://thesmarthuman.com/podcast/ For more information on Therese Forton-Barnes and the Green Living Gurus see the following: website: https://thegreenlivinggurus.com/ email: greenlivinggurus@gmail.com
