EA Talks
Effective Altruism is a social movement dedicated to finding ways you can best help others, whether through your charitable donations, career choices, or volunteer projects. EA Talks features presentations and discussions that can help you find something you're excited about. Lately, we've been focusing a lot on new opportunities in pandemic prevention, charity entrepreneurship, and AI safety. But we also have talks on other important topics like animal welfare, global health, nuclear security, climate change, and cause prioritization research. Most of the content is from EA Global videos, packaged for easy listening on the go. If you have feedback or would like to suggest an episode, please reach out.

AI Alignment: An Introduction | Rohin Shah | EAGxOxford 22
"You've probably heard that Elon Musk, Stuart Russell, and Stephen Hawking warn of dangers posed by AI. What are these risks, and what basis do they have in AI practice? Rohin Shah will first describe the more philosophical argument that suggests that a superintelligent AI system pursuing the wrong goal would lead to an existential catastrophe. Then, he'll ground this argument in current AI practice, arguing that it is plausible both that we build superintelligent AI in the coming decades, and that such a system would pursue an incorrect goal.View the original talk and video here.Effective Altruism is a social movement dedicated to finding ways to do the most good possible, whether through charitable donations, career choices, or volunteer projects. Rowing and Steering the Effective Altruism Movement | Joshua Monrad | EAGxOxford 22
How much should the effective altruism community focus on becoming more influential, and how much should it focus on how to use its influence? In this talk, Joshua Monrad (Future of Humanity Institute) will discuss this question. Borrowing Holden Karnofsky’s analogy of “rowing and steering,” the talk will present arguments in favour of ‘steering’ more than we currently are. Finally, Joshua will discuss red-teaming and critical analyses as an example of something that could improve the direction of the EA movement.View the original talk and video here.Effective Altruism is a social movement dedicated to finding ways to do the most good possible, whether through charitable donations, career choices, or volunteer projects. The threat here presents an opportunity for EA aligned researchers and funding to make a real difference, and in this talk Michael Hinge lays out some of the research recently completed concerning the most severe food catastrophic risks, what remains to be done and how people can get involved.View the original talk and video here.Effective Altruism is a social movement dedicated to finding ways to do the most good possible, whether through charitable donations, career choices, or volunteer projects.
